Homecoming
Homecoming Weekend at Piedmont College was a
fun-filled occasion for all who participated. Friday
night a rather well-known band, Drivin' N' Cryin', held a
concert on the quad with a spectacular turnout. Satur-
day was the annual Homecoming carnival-type
event, complete with a dunking booth, food and drink,
and a new activity this year - the Velcro Wall! That
same afternoon was the coronation of this years
Homecoming King and Queen, Darren Volk and
Sabrina Allen. This took place during halftime of the
women's soccer game. The decorative Homecoming
Dance was Saturday night in the Student Center. There
was hardly a dull moment on Homecoming Weekend
at Piedmont!

Dating
It has been said that most people meet
the person they are going to marry in
college. Well... at Piedmont College, that
may or may not be true. Everywhere you
go there are couples that always seem to
be together. Some of them have pro-
vided pretty interesting conversation while
others just keep quiet and mellow in the
background. Assembled here is a variety
of couples we can always count on keep-
ing Piedmont students talking.

Haunted House
Halloween 1993 was a very
eventful time at Piedmont Col-
lege. The Tuesday before Hallow-
een a costume dance was held in
the Student Center. Refreshments
were provided and cash prizes
awarded for the best costumes.
These prizes went to Billy Wash-
ington and Sandy Landrum. The
PAL Club also had a Halloween
costume bash. Saturday night
before Halloween some students
helped set up a haunted house in
the Student Center for the com-
munity children. The Art Club won
the prize for best decorations.

20 Dorm Life
The college years are some of the most fun
and most challenging of a person's life. For
those students who go away from home
to attend college, the experience is that
much more exciting. It is a time to develop
a sense of self and independence and
some of the strongest friendships are
made in the dormitories. Although Pied-
mont is a small campus, the staff encour-
aged activities within and between the
three dorms to promote a sense of com-
munity and belonging for each resident.
Most students who have lived on campus
for the majority of their career at Piedmont
College feel that they would not have
had such a complete experience had
they lived off-campus.

THE STUDENT CENTER
Just below Nielsen Dining Hall lies the Student Center of Piedmont
College. Here is a place where all students can congregate,
whether it be to study, play games, or pass the time waiting for the
next class to begin. Every major student activity was held in the
Student Center, from dances to pajama parties to Super Bowl
events. It is a place to forget the books for awhile or cram for that
afternoon Biology exam while you eat your daily lunch of potato
chips and coke. If you think you don't have the time to visit the
Student Center, you just may be missing out on one of the most
important aspects of college life: honing up on your socialization
skills!

Piedmont College
1988- 1993
John Camp was well loved by many of the faculty
and students at Piedmont College. He was a kind,
quiet man who was always willing to help others. He
was well known for his many intelligent debates
with other faculty members in which he would play
devil's advocate. He was always an excellent ad-
ministrator and helped to create a comfortable
working environment for those around him. John
Camp loved nature and animals as much as he
loved his family and friends. This deep feeling char-
acteristic Mr. Camp possessed may help explain
why, after losing two wives in less than five years, he
felt he had to leave this world and once again
become a part of the nature he so adored. John
Camp will be greatly missed by his family, friends,
and those who knew him for the short five years he
was with us at Piedmont College.

I shall pass this way

Any good, therefore, that
I can do or
Any kindness that I can
show to any human

Let me do it now.
Let me not defer nor
neglect it,
For I shall not pass this

#22
Once we were blessed - with two little girls
With an objective - to conquer the world.
They became friends - the instant they met
So at a very young age - their journey was set.
They wheeled and dealed - as they traveled their way
And never failed to love and help others - everyday.
They became known for their skills in basketball
For their personalities and for standing tall.
They had morals and loved - all their peers
And when we needed them - they were always near.
They laughed and played - and had so much fun
And then - within an instant - their mission was done.
They lived a lifetime - in only eighteen years
They went to Heaven and we shed the tears.
Only God knows - how great - was our love
For those two girls - who now live above.
They did everything - not as two - but as one
And are now with God - by faith in His son.

This season was not the one the
Lady Lions had hoped for, but it
was certainly one to be proud of.
The start of practice season
seemed to predict one of
Piedmont's most outstanding
women's teams ever. With the ad-
dition of several freshmen to re-
plenish last year's senior women,
these ladies were looking good on
the courts! In early October, how-
ever, a tragic accident claimed
the young lives of two of these
freshmen players (see pages 86-
87), bringing the team spirit to a
screeching halt. The players did
manage to collect themselves,
however, and move on the best
way they knew how - having fun
playing their game. This season was
a tough one indeed, but one that'
proved to these young Lady Lions
Thatthey do have the most essen-
tial ingredient of a great team -
love and support for one another.
Piedmont College looks forward to
another display of strength and
endurance from these women next
season!

Piedmont's Favorite Pastl
This season's baseball team was
one of the best Piedmont Col-
lege has ever seen. The Lions
started off the season with a
record of 8 - 8 in their confer-
ence, NAIA. They became in-
consistent, dropping games to
end up 1 1 - 1 7 in the conference,
but that was good enough to
place them in the NAIA playoffs,
making them the first Lion's base-
ball team ever to play games in
the post-season for Piedmont.
Congratulations to the 1993-94
baseball team for a season well
played!

WOMEN'S TENNIS
In only their second year here at Piedmont College,
these young women have represented their college well
in their matches. They competed against some of the
Southeast's most competitive teams, some of them in the
same conference, NAIA. With an overall record of 5-15
this year, this team improved significantly over their first
year of play at Piedmont College. Coach Kelly Pardue is
optimistic that next year 's numbers will only be higher
with all but one player expected to return.

5 1993-1994
The 1 993-94 men's tennis team had a pretty
good season this time around. Included in
one of the toughest districts in the state,
the GIAC, they were 8-6 overall and 7-2 in
the district. Coach Ellen Briggs considers
herself very fortunate to have coached
such a great group of young men, her
"sons", she calls them! She was very proud
of her men's team and when asked what
made them so successful, she said "Talent
and LOTS of practice!". Well, it paid off for
this Lion's team and only the best is ex-
pected from them in the future.
Women's Soccer: 13 -
Fall of 1993 was the first year Piedmont College
supported a women's soccer team. In their inaugu-
ral season, the Lady Lions were virtually unstop-
pable. They had an awesome record of 13 wins, 4
losses, and 1 undecided game. These women,
headed by Coach Greg Graber. can only improve
with experience. Piedmont thanks the Lady Lions
soccer team for an exciting season and wishes
them the best in the seasons yet to come!

120 Cheerleading
This school year marked the return of cheerleading to
the Piedmont basketball games. Sponsored by our very
own Carol Dye, Head Librarian, the 1993-94 team was
very successful. About a dozen girls originally went out
for the team, but due to school and work conflicts, only
six of them stuck with it for the whole year. Since the gym
was used for basketball practice, the team practiced
every night in the Dining Hall. They cheered at most
home games and some of the away games. Scholar-
ships will be offered next year to encourage participa-
tion among more students. Good luck to them in the
coming years!!

at Piedmont College were full of
excitement and sentiment as the
graduates ended years of prepa-

honorary degree from Piedmont.
As the ceremonies ended,
graduates could scarcely be-
lieve it was really over. After seem-
ingly endless term papers and
final exams, they headed out
into the "real world" as Piedmont
Alumni. They carry with them,
though, the friendships, the ac-
quired knowledge, and the sur-
vival skills gained at Piedmont
College to help them begin this
new phase in their lives.

DEDICATION
This 1 993-94 yearbook is gratefully dedicated to Mrs. Patty Martin, Assistant Dean of Students.
"Dedication" is definitely the word to describe Patty. In the two short years she has been with
us at Piedmont, she has been unwaveringly dedicated to every student's interests. She has
been to bat for countless students who may have had problems with fellow faculty and
administrators, even at the risk of losing her job. In her first year, she advised the Student
Government Association as Acting Dean of Students, and in this, her second year, she
advised many of them not as her duty, but on a personal level. If you have ever been in the
Tutoring Lab (which she was in charge of ) outside her office, you have seen the dozens of
students pouring in and out in just an hour's time. Some students have problems they need
advice on, be they personal or academic. Patty was the chair of the Transitional Committee,
which worked on new ways to help attract and keep those students who normally would not
consider college as an option based on their previous academic performance. Out of this
committee grew an entire program, the Program for Academic Success (PAS), dedicated
to the same concern. Perhaps the most striking characteristic Patty has displayed, though,
is her genuine concern for and desire to help students through personal crises. This became
evident towards the end of the Spring semester when Patty launched the effort to raise
ultimately more than one thousand dollars for a PAL student who was suddenly hospitalized
and ran low on funds to pay his enormous medical bills. For all of these reasons and more,
the Yonahian staff and a general concensus of the student body feel that Patty Martin
deserves our dedication in return!

LOOKING BACK... j
Another year is gone. Happily for some,
regretfully for others. One thing is certain,
though: Piedmont College is a part of all of
our lives now and we will never forget it.
Here are a few (surprised!) faces to help
bring back the memories you will one day
THE END!
Or is it? For some of us, it seems like
the end, but for most of us it is only
a new beginning. Some students
have graduated, beginning a new
phase of their lives with the help of
Piedmont College; some begin
new jobs while they take the sum-
mer off from classes; and still other
students just can't seem to get
enough of classes and enrolled for
the summer sessions! Whatever your
summer is like, the end of one school
year is only the beginning of an-
other adventure in all of our lives, so
let's relax and enjoy the ride!
