The Nineteen Hundred Seventy-Two Yonahian is Dedicated to

PRESIDENT AND MRS. JAMES E. WALTER

in appreciation of their faith, dedication and service

James, E. Walter, D.D. L.L.D, has been President of Piedmont College since 1949. Under his
administration and leadership the College has achieved full accreditation, most of the modern
buildings that house students, classes, administration facilities and worship, as well as dining and
recreational activities have been erected and paid for. In addition, the College has accumulated
an endowment fund and other special funds to help insure its future, largely due to his energy,
foresight and capacity to inspire confidence in Piedmont's ideal of providing quality college educa-
tion in a Christian atmosphere. He continues to inspire students and faculty to new heights of
dedication and service.

Elizabeth Perry Walter, wife of the President of Piedmont College and College Nurse who fulfills
both responsibilities with graciousness. charm and remarkable understanding Whether called in
the middle of the night to look in on a student with sudden illness or appointed to at a

formal reception, Mr. Walter meets every expectation and goes far beyond tbe call of duty
a warm and friendly hostess, she welcomes members of the Piedmont campus family and
munity to their home many times each year. Greatly admired and beloved over thi
mont.

The saga of the Pilgrim faith in its
journey from England to The Nether-
lands, to New I ngland is aptl) symbolized
by the Mayflower replica, manufactured
in Cape Cod. and In the (lock mad. in
Holland. The Chapel itseli standing lit-
erally as the cornerstone of the campus
reflects the simple faith which is the basis
of the Piedmont College philosophy of
Christian higher education.

The donor. Dr. Hoerner. has built, fur-
nished, or contributed heavily to numer-
ous chapels, churches, and college build-
ings throughout the country. His hi
marked by material success and business
acumen but is characterized by civic
ucational. and religious involvemeni SV<
are grateful for the testimony of his life
of dedication and for his example of faith-
ful stew ardship.
