- Letters from [T.] Dwight [Witherspoon] to James Henley Thornwell concerning a request from First Presbyterian Church (Oxford, Miss.) to become a stated supply, his recent preaching [at Zion Presbyterian Church (Tupelo, Miss.)] and to persons enslaved, and bereavement [over the recent death of his fiancé and daughter of Thornwell, “Nannie” Thornwell], Pontotoc County (Miss.), July 4, 1859; concerning a letter Thornwell had written to him, the work of Dr. Waddel among the congregation, and the activities of Gillespie Thornwell, Oxford (Miss.), November 21, 1859; concerning the summer life of Gillespie Thornwell and his plans to enter college, Oxford (Miss.), May 1, 1860; concerning reuniting with Thornwell and a description about churches in Pontotoc County (Miss.) and La Grange [Choctaw County (Miss.)], Oxford (Miss.), October 15, 1860; concerning reasons for possible secession of South Carolina and its reception Mississippi, and requests copies of a sermon by Thornwell on John 14:6, Oxford (Miss.), December 17, 1860; concerning the reception of prayer meetings at First Presbyterian Church (Oxford, Miss.), also discusses various philosophers he is reading, Oxford (Miss.), February 11, 1861.
