SESSIONS.
There is but one Session in the Seminary year. The year com-
mences on the 1st of October, and ends on the 1st of July.
ADMISSION.
The regular time for admission to the Seminary is in October.
It is very desirable that all Students should be present at the
commencement of the year, particularly those entering the Junior
Class.
The Seminary is open to Students of every denomination. Can-
didates for admission must furnish the Faculty with satisfactory
testimonials, from enlightened and pious persons, of their talents,
piety, and prudence, of having been regularly educated at some
College or University, or of having made attainments deemed
equivalent, and of being in full communion with some Christian
Church. Such persons, on assenting to the Constitution of the
Seminary, are admitted to the enjoyment of all its privileges.

COURSE OF STUDIES.
The course of Study embraces a period of three years, and covers
the several departments of Theological education.
I. BIBLICAL LITERATURE.
1. The Grammar of the Hebrew Language, and the Grammatical
and Exegetical study of the Hebrew Scriptures. Various por-
tions of the Historical, Poetical and Prophetic Books are read,

The studies in this department occupy five days in each week
in the Junior year. In the middle and Senior years there are Ex-
egetical exercises three days in the week.
II. CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY.
In the department of Theology, the principal subjects are con-

Trinity of persons in the Godhead.
Divine Nature and Eternal Sonship of Christ.

Moral Agency, fallen man's inability, nature and origin of sin.
Human Apostacy, total depravity and imputation of guilt.
Atonement its nature, design and extent.
Results of Redemption Regeneration, Repentance, Faith, &c.
Justification and Final Perseverance of Believers.
Intermediate State.
Resurrection of the Dead.
General Judgment.
Endless blessedness of the righteous, and endless misery of the
wicked.
Divine institution and perpetual obligation of the Sabbath.
Sacraments of the Church, Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
Church Membership of Infants their right to Baptism.
The above general subjects in Didactic and Polemic Theology,
are treated under more tban one hundred subdivisions or beads,

upon each of which a lecture is given by the Professor, and a writ-
ten dissertation prepared and read by each Student, unless espe-
cially excused. This course extends throughout the three Semina-
ry years, but more exclusively occupies the middle year.
IU. ECCLESIASTICAL HISTORY AND CHURCH
GOVERNMENT.
1. Course of Study on Chronology, Sacred and Profane.
2. Course of Lectures on the First Part of Church History, ex-
tending from the Creation to the close of the New Testament
Canon ; showing also the connection of Sacred and Profane
History.
3. Recitations and Lectures on the Second Part of Church History,
from the close of the New Testament Canon to the present
time.
4. Course of Lectures and Studies on Church Government and
Discipline.
5. Written Essays by the Students Biographical and Historical.
IV. SACRED RHETORIC.
1. Recitations in Campbell's Philosophy of Rhetoric and Porters'
Homiletics.
2. Exercises in Public Speaking, consisting of Original Declama-
tions, Delivery of Sermons, and Forensic Debates, accompanied
with free criticism.
3. The public and private criticism of Sermons and Skeletons.
4. Dissertations, Essays and Critiques, prepared by the Senior
Class, on various subjects in the department of Sacred Rheto-
ric.
Tuesday evening is appropriated to Rhetorical Exercises, inclu-
ding Debates, Declamation, and the delivery of Sermons.
Professors' Conference. Wednesday evening is occupied by
the Professors, in familiar conference before the Students upon
personal piety, the best plan and method of study, and the practi-

cal duties of the Pastoral Office, with the design of tilling the de-
partment of Pastoral Theology.
Lectures. Lectures are delivered on Doctrinal Theology, on
the Canon of Scripture, on Biblical Criticism, Biblical Literature,
Ecclesiastical History and Polity, by the Professors who preside
over these departments of instruction.
The Elements of the Chaldee and Syriac will be taught to such
Students as may wish to commence those languages. And in-
struction may be obtained in town in the French, German, Italian,
and Spanish.
Library. The Library is valuable and select, and contains up-
wards of 5,296 volumes, principally in the several departments of
Theology.
The Society of Inquiry on Missions, is in the possession of a val-
uable Cabinet, and its Reading-Room is furnished with the most
important Periodicals, Foreign and Domestic.
Expenses. The Board, Washing and Fuel of a Student resi-
ding in the Seminary, amount to from eighty to ninety dollars per
annum. The Institution is a Charitable foundation, and no charge
is made for room-rent, tuition, or use of Library. Most of the
rooms are furnished. Provision is also made for the support of
Students in indigent circumstances.
The Seminary is pleasantly situated in the thriving town of Co-
lumbia, a place remarkable for health, no death having occurred
in the Institution during the twenty-three years of its existence.
Columbia is the Capital of the State of South-Carolina, the seat of
its College and other public Institutions, a place of easy access by
rail-roads, which are connecting it more and more with other por-
tions of the Southern and South- Western States. A branch of the
South-Carolina Rail-road terminates at this place, wh< re it unites
with the Charlotte and Greenville Rail-roads. By means of these
and other rail-roads now in operation, or shortly to be so, this
Seminary may be easily reached from any part of the United
States.
