WMERE TWERE'6
P WILL-

A will is one of the most important
documents one will ever sign. It can
be an instrument to carry out our own
plans to:

Care for those people close to us
whom we love;

Extend our personal efforts to meet
others' needs through the Church and
charitable agencies;

Express in practical terms the be-
liefs we cherish.

Failure to write a will simply means
we are satisfied to have an imperson-
al court of law make decisions about
guardianship of minor children and
the distribution of our estate through
a mechanical formula. To die with-
out a will results in unnecessary court
costs and taxes, and in reducing the
amount to be distributed to heirs and
causes that reflect our own values
and beliefs.

Church in Tucker, Ga., has accepted
the post of Director of Seminary Re-
lations at Columbia, beginning Sep-
tember 1 . A full story will appear in
the next issue of Vantage.

FROM the PRE6DENT

Amid the many duties of a Semi-
nary President is the marvelous
privilege of participating in the Com-
mencement of our Seniors. This June
Columbia sent 38 graduates, whose
pictures and accomplishments are
noted in this issue of Vantage, on
their way to varied and challenging
futures.

Even as we are reluctant to release
them, we are confident of their com-
petence and dedication to ministry
and commend them to you and the
whole Church.

The Church always stands just one
generation from extinction, yet as we
look toward the future we are certain
that these men and women will carry
the Gospel fully and faithfully to one
more generation, and through their
ministries affect the life of the Church
for decades to come.

The strength of the Church resides

not only in the commitment of its
members, but also in the quality of
its leadership, and it is our responsi-
bility to help maintain and increase
that leadership quality in the minis-
try. It is to this end that we dedi-
cate our efforts and the more than
$1 million we spend each year.

In effect our graduates are Colum-
bia's report card to the Church; they
are the 148th such reporting to the
Church of our stewardship of time,
effort and resources. We pray that as
they carry out their ministries and we
continue our efforts, both they and
we shall be found to be faithful to
the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Faithfully yours,
U J. Davison Philips
