CHRISTMAS PRAYER
Our Father, who in thy Son Jesus Christ didst come to mankind so many centuries ago and yet dost come again in this time of His Nativity, come now to each of us we pray. Grant that whenever and however thou shalt meet us, we may have eyes to see thee in the disguises of thy lowliness.
If our lives are too busy to receive thee, hasten still to knock at our doors until we hear thee. If we are too happy with our families and homes to have a thought for the homeless and despised, remind us that the Prince of Peace found no room and no place to lay His head. If we are sure of our knowledge, teach us the simplicity of Love, which alone makes men wise. If we are pleased with our power, surprise us with thy gentleness and lead us like children to the edge of the manger.
In all of our festivities we pray: That in the enjoyment of our material wealth we may also find the riches of thy Kingdom; That in our earthly rejoicing we may also catch the joyous spirit in which the troops of heaven sang thy glory.
Descend to us, we pray, for we would lay our gifts before thee and adore thy Son, even Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
