Fellow Brothers,

We, along with the entire WILDCAT STAFF, are honored to have the privilege of presenting
the 1968-69 PETER G. APPLING WILDCAT YEARBOOK to you.

Working on the yearbook has been fun and rewarding. However, weve had our problems
and disagreements, yet, these obstacles were only challenges that helped strengthen our efforts.

In accordance with our theme, BROTHERHOOD, we strongly believe that BROTHERLY
LOVE contributes to learning; therefore, it is our sincere hope that this Yearbook will arouse a
greater interest in that achievable aim, BROTHERHOOD.

The staff was a dedicated and enthusiastic one. To them we express our sincerest thanks.

May you enjoy the finished product.

Sincerely yours,

Coes Rumer

J have a dream that one day on the red hills of Some people see things as they are and ask why,
Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of I see things as they never were and ask why not.
former slaveowners will be able to sit down togeth-

er at the table of brotherhood.

We memorialize and revere the lives of these men and many others who gave themselves in order that we might
learn to love, respect and unite in an effort to make our world a better place in which to live.

TO THE SENIORS OF PETER G. APPLING SCHOOL:

At this time of the successful completion of the first great milestone in your lives,
and as each of you strikes out on new paths in further preparation to meet the chal-
lenges of the future, we extend our congratulations and best wishes.

In charting your course as you embark upon the expressways of life, it is my hope
that each of you will keep open mindsopen to growth and maturity, facilitating mu-
tual sharing of communication and brotherly love as well as those other qualities that
make us truly human.

As you seek a freshness of approach in trying to make this a better world for people
to live as brothers in peace with themselves as well as world peace for all, I commend
to you the following words: There is a destiny that makes us brothers, no one goes
his way alone; all that we send into the lives of others comes back into our own.

May your life be a rich and rewarding one, and may you know the true meaning of
Brotherhood.

With kindest personal regards and best wishes to each of you, I remain.

Yours sincerely,

(Wing t4dsobeon/

Dedication:

No Man Is An Island
No Man Stands Alone

The Senior Class proudly dedicates the 1969 edition of the Peter G. Appling
Wildcat to Miss V. V. Mims.

Miss Mims, a senior supervisor, a wise counselor and friend, has been with the
Appling faculty for ten years. She is an efficient teacher of both chemistry and
biology. Her academic preparation includes the Bachelor of Arts Degree from
Talladega College and further study at Atlanta University, Mercer University and the
University of California at Los Angeles. She has also traveled extensively throughout
Georgia and the United States.

Miss Mims pleasing personality and smile has brightened many mornings in our
lives. Her patience, understanding and endurance has enabled us to smile when all
seemed wrong. For these reasons it is felt that she has proved herself far beyond the
point of dedication.

In every walk of life, there comes a time when we must recognize and pay due honor and respect
to those who have realized that life is like a play in which the world is the stage and that they are the
players. There is a first, second, and third act and then the curtain! But the floodlights have not

yet come on for them, and the curtain is not yet risen.

These have only been going through rehearsals. So the kinds of persons they are and the way in
which they are preparing themselves will determine how well they will play their parts.

The entire Appling Family congratulates you, Sylvia and Paul, for your early admission to college.
It is through your performance, past, present, and future, that you are sure to be among the leaders

of tomorrow.
