Dr. Julius Gholson
Each year the changing situations throughout the world make an education more and more impor-
tant to the individual. There is more knowledge that is available to be learned. Competition for jobs
and higher positions in life are much greater than even a few years ago.
Education helps to improve the standard of living in the nation, increases the enjoyment of life,
makes for a better social adjustment as an educated person is easier to talk with, reason with, and to
lead in the right direction.
To the graduates of Appling Senior High School, we extend our congratulations upon the comple-
tion of some twelve years of formal education. We hope that this will not terminate your education,
We urge that you continue on into college work and college life in order that you may prepare your-
self better to take your place in society so that you may enjoy more of the fruits of life and at the
same time help to make your own community and your nation a better place in which to live.
May God's blessings go with each of you.

It gives us great pleasure to have been afforded
the distinct opportunity of greeting you in the school
annual, and needless to say it is viewed as a dis-
tinct pleasure, and done with the utmost sincerity.
Since entering high school, you have had the
beautiful opportunity to observe the society in which
we live make progress in many ways. We choose
not to elaborate unnecessarily on specific areas of
progress, for the point to be made here is that, as
students, this societal progress has placed many more
demands on you individually. It is much more vivid
now than in the past that your training will enable
you to be a productive person.
Your gracious spirit, your measureless cooper-
ation have helped to make this year a memorable
one for us, and we are grateful.

The most agreeable recompense which we can receive for
things which we have done rs to see Laem known, to have them
applauded with praises which honor us.

The 1967 Annual is proudly dedicated to Mrs. J. B. Simonton. Mrs, Simonton has endeared
herself to the hearts of all whom she comes in contact. Her quiet unassuming ways and her
helpfulness has made her genuinely loved by all.
Mrs. Simonton graduated from the Public Schools of Macon and received the Bachelor's
Degree from the Fort Valley State College. She has done advanced study at Mercer University.
She is the wife of Mr. J. L. Simonton, head football coach at Peter G. Appling High School.
She is the adorable and proud mother of three handsome sons, James, Walter, and Christopher.
Mrs. Simonton is affiliated with the Allen Chapel AME Church where she participates actively
in various departments. She is an ardent member of the Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority where she has held various offices including that of Presidency.
For her tireless efforts, patience and understanding, we dedicate the 1967 edition of the
"Wildcat" to Mrs. Simonton, whom we know will always remain an unbreakable link in our
chain of memories.

Mrs. Dorothy Nelson Miss Annie Dell Randall Mrs. Jacquelyn Wilder
In Appling's short life span of 9 years, her graduates have pursued many careers. Of them the educators are
the most renowned, for they produce the future of America.
Several of our alumni have returned to the Faculty Staff. Mr. Garey Cooper, Mrs. J. Wilder, the former
Miss Jacquelyn Dennis, Miss Juanita McCrary, Miss Annie Randall, and Mrs. D. Binford, the former Miss Dorothy
Cullins who was the first alumni to return to her Alma Mater to work, all hail from our first graduating class in
1960.
Mr. Cooper, who won first prize in the art contest held here in 1960, displays another art in teaching Spanish
and French in our Foreign Language Department. Mr. Cooper was graduated from The Fort Valley State College,
Fort Valley, Georgia.
Mrs. Wilder, the valedictorian of the class, was active in the Chorus, Tri-Hi-Y, and Dramatics Club, which
certainly proves that she is an outstanding person and an asset to the student body, Mrs. Wilder graduated from
Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia, in the field of Biology.
Miss McCrary, representative of our senior class of '60 as Miss Senior, is a fervent English instructor. Miss
McCrary comes to us from The Fort Valley State College. She was in the chorus and was on the first yearbook
staff.
Miss Randall, a graduate of The Fort Valley State College, in the field of Mathematics, was a member of
the Band and Mathematics Club. She received numerous awards in this field and was graduated from Appling
with honors.
Miss Anita Dorsey, salutatorian of the 61 class, was on the yearbook staff, in the chorus, a majorette and
in the dance group. She graduated from Stillman College in the field of Biology.
Mrs. Nelson, the former Miss Dorothy Balkcom, secretary to the Junior High principal, graduated from Ap-
pling in 1963 with third honor. She matriculated at Tuskegee Institute and Fielding Business College.
Mrs. Brown, the former Miss Carolyn Scott, is our assistant librarian. While at Appling she was active in
both basketball and track. She was acclaimed most valuable player in her senior year.

Wers. PITA and Attendants
Twelve-one class was very elated over having such a diligent and conscientious parent
working with them during the annual P.T.A. Drive, Mrs, Ellen Randolph.
For many years she has been an ardent worker in both elementary and high school P.T.A.'s.
She is the mother of three sons, Robert, Willie and Terry. Robert and Willie represent classes
12-1 and 12-4 respectively, while Terry is a 6th grade student at H.A. Hunt Elementary School.
HATS OFF TO MRS, RANDOLPH!
