Gre lings From The Principal

Greetings to the members of the Wildcat staff, senior class and faculty advisors for a superb job. This
unique edition of "The Wildcat" will serve as a valuable source for many memorable experiences, now
and for years to come.

This, our seventh edition, makes us no longer a young institution, for three of our graduate students of
Appling are now a part of the Appling faculty.

To the graduating class of 1966, I wish to encourage each of you to avail yourselves of every oppor-
tunity vocationally or professionally. Philosophically speaking, Socrates advised, "Know thyself"; Con-
fucious expounded, "Control thyself"; Christ taught, "Deny thyself" and I am saying to you, "Prepare

thyself". If you adhere to this philosophy your response will be "I am prepared" when the opportunities

The 1965 Mckibben Lane Award for teaching excellence has been presented to Mrs. Doris Hill Adams,
teacher of French and head of the foreign language department at Peter G. Appling High School. The
award was made at a meeting of the Bibb County Teachers and Education Association at L.H. Williams
School.

Judge Mallory C. Atkinson, vice president of the Bibb County Board of Public Education, praised Mrs.
Adams' ability to successfully transmit the basic skills and the fundamentals of the language which she
commands," which he said is "widely known among her professional associates and the student body."
"She employs various teaching techniques and audio-visual aids to stimulate student growth and develop-
ment and is considered an expert in the use of the foreign language laboratory."

The award carries a $250 cash grant. Mrs. Mckibben Lane, widow of the late board of education
member whose family established the award in his memory, attended the presentation ceremony.

Mrs. Adams received her A.B. degree from Shaw University; M.A. and Professional Diploma from
Teachers College, Columbia University and has done further study in the area of French at Laval Univer-
sity, Quebec, Canada and Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
