IN MEMORIAM

EDITH EUGENIA POSS RANDALL AUBREY REYNOLDS

PSALM 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me be-
side the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
for His names sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I
will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they com-
fort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine

enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Anne and John, editors, seem pleased as they look over the proposed layout of the
1958 Miller-Lanier Annual.

Cynthia Comer and Douglas Askew, business managers of the annual, and Frank
Armstrong, advertising manager, stop their work for a bit of refreshment.

One of the first tasks
confronting the editorial
staff is the selection of
a theme. John Seals,
Anne Dunlap, editors,
and Charles Hales seem
quite interested as they
discuss their ideas for

the 1958 book.

The staff of the Miller Lanier
Annual has the stupendous task of

editing the yearbook. Staff mem-
bers soon learn terms new to them

layout, dummy, job number,
deadline, and on and on as they
write and re-write copy, as they
draw up pages and as they prepare
pages for mailing.

Sandra Rodgers and Ann Oldham ap-
prove an arrangement of a page drawn
by Hunt Sanders.

Billy Chase, Palmer Lamback, and Billy
Hicks plan the arrangement of pictures
in the section featuring clubs and ac-
tivities.

The selection, of a cover for the book
was primarily the responsibility of David
Smith and Sylvia Carroll who are de-
lighted with their choice.

Jolaine Tidwell and Rose Petty take
a moment off from their job of typing
copy and relax on the east terrace at

Miller.

Of equal importance is the
business staff of the an-
nual. Knowing that they
have sold ads and managed
their share of the work,
Janet Johnson, Gordon
Jackson, Bob Reagan,
David Howard, and Phyl-
lis Hobbs can now look
forward to their first
glimpse of the completed

book.

stimulate a desire to render
service, to promote worthy
leadership, and to encourage
the development of character.

To be considered for Beta,
girls must first meet certain
scholastic requirements; then
they are scored according to
personality ratings and of-

school faculty and the club
vote on the list presented and
the girls are elected by a
majority vote.

The standards for initia-
tion into BETA are high -
and students must keep those
high standards to remain as
active members in this or-
ganization that is so active at

Miller.

At meetings of the club, well planned programs are thoroughly enjoyed by members. Whether they are work-

sponsor worth-while projects, BETA members are constantly trying to live up to the ideals and purposes of

Students Prepare for the Future

The Lanier KEY CLUB is a school service club and a member of the Key Club International. The organiza-
tion is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club members who give their time and inspiration in guiding and leading the
group.

\

A pinata made by Francis Clark and Francis Riley was the center of interest at the Christmas party. Grouped around it are
Jimmy Asbell, Francis Riley, Steve Meadows, parliamentarian; Joel Kitchens, Dudley Dugger, president; and Francis Clark. Not

pictured are Gene Russ, vice-president; and Paul Hill, secretary-treasurer.
Good Neighbors and Good

The SPANISH CLUB promotes interest in spoken Spanish and the culture and customs of Spanish-speaking
countries. Advisors are Miss Nellie Lamar and Mr. Aubrey Floyd.

Citizens

The purpose of the AMER-
ICANISM CLUB is to teach
the principles of citizenship
and governmental procedure
to its members. The organ-
ization also sends a group of
its members to visit the legis-
lature in Atlanta each year.

AMERICANISM CLUB officers
include Mr. Landon Brent, ad-
visor; George Hart, president;
Ken Hall, vice-president; Bubber

The LANIER HIGH SCHOOL
CONCERT BAND directed by
Mr. T. M. Gaughf presents
musical programs on special oc-
casions throughout the school
year. The Spring Concert and
an annual musical show, Dixie
Doodle Dandy, are the two pro-
grams at which the band per-
forms. Small ensembles, such
as the Dixieland Band, are
chosen from among the Concert
Band members. Soloists for the
State Music Festvial also come
from this group.

a

The Miller-Lanier GLEE
CLUB, led by Mrs. A. J.
Johnson, presents a program
of music for a Christmas as-
sembly at Lanier. The sixty
voice chorus presents various
choral programs at both high
schools throughout the year.
The group also makes fre-
quent trips to colleges and
universities in the state to at-
tend the different musical

festivals.

The Music Appreciation Club, one of the most popular clubs at Miller, has as members those girls who are
interested in music.

Through Performing Swe Hearing oe

Members of the club and talented musicians and informed experts outside the club present a variety of
interesting, well planned programs for the regular club meetings.

Officers of the MUSIC CLUBCaryl Allen, Virginia Ezell, Brenda Bush, Jan King, Betsy Livingston and Holly Woodruff
gather around the piano as their president, Judy Jones, prepares to play for them.

training to its workers and helpful service to Miller students.

The ORANGE AND GREEN STAFF with their advisor, Mr. Gratigny, look over
last years issue. Edd Wheeler is editor, Robert Starr is managing editor, and as-
sociate editors are James Brooks and Bill Watson.

The Lanier LIBRARY ASSISTANTS are James Hardman, Larry Defore, Richard
Webb, Tommy Bush, William Rish, and Harvey Haines. Also shown is Miss McCaw,

librarian.

The INDUSTRIAL ARTS CLUB gathers around some of their finished projects.
Officers are James Self, president; Wilfred Rainey, vice-president; Joe Carroll,
secretary-treasurer; and Joe Bruskie, sergeant-at-arms.

MISS MACON FUTU-
RAMA was the title selected
for the career night at Miller
sponsored by the Quota Club
of Macon and the Miller
Guidance Council. Parents
and girls visited classes, con-
ducted by Quota members
actually engaged in those oc-
cupations, to ask questions,
to make plans for further
study, and to arrange for
future interviews.

A short play, written by
one of the speech classes and
presented in the auditorium,
showed clearly the need for
guidance in the choice of a
career.

Interested students and
parents took advantage of
this most informative pro-
gram.

On each side of Frances Parker, Millers Best Citizen for 1957-58, are the two runners-up, Gracie Roland and Ginny Everett. Of
these three elected by popular vote of the Seniors, one was selected by the faculty in recognition of the way in which she
measured up to standards set by D.A.R. club members

FIRST NATIONAL BANK AND TRUST CO. IN MACON
CITY BANK AND TRUST COMPANY

Congratulations
to the Senior Class of
MILLER and LANIER

You have now crossed the bay; the great
ocean of life's achievements lies ahead of
you. May each of you STOP, THINK, and
set your course straight ahead to enter
the harbor of successful accomplishments,
remembering that what the mind of man
can conceive, the genius of man can make
a fact. That peace and prosperity may
touch with golden lights all the wavelets
that break upon the beach of your lives
is our ardent wish.
