0A Day tn the Life of a Leader

Dr. Samue P. Scavella, Complex Principal

Dr. Scavella's Six-Word
Memoir: "...through hope,
Life; through struggle,
Progress!"

Dr. Scavella strives everyday to make sure
# each student at Northeast is a success.

Larger than Life....
Dr. Samuel Scavella leads Northeast with a confident smile and a

strong but loving hand. Dr. Scavella, along with his staff, motivates the
students to maximize their potential everyday and is a great example of
an exemplary leader. He exudes compassion and kindness but never lets
anybody mistake his kindness for weakness. His strength is rooted in
his greatest achievement: earning a doctorate in philosophy, which led
him to becoming the principal of this great learning institution.

During the three years that he has tirelessly served as our principal, he
has made a lasting impression and has brought a positive cultural and
climate change to Northeast. His dedication and hard work has led to
students receiving their diploma and going on to pursue a post-
secondary education or to enter the workforce fully prepared. Because
of the vision and efforts of this great man, Northeast has been able to
shed the negative image that had unjustly been placed on our school in
the past. Northeast is now a place we all can be proud to call home, and
Dr. Scavella is a man who we are honored to call Principal.

With the help of Dr. Jeffrey Ashley and Dr. Julia
Daniely, Northeast is making a transition into a
school of excellence.

Editor

On behalf of our principal Dr. Scavella, yearbook
adviser Shana Burton, and the yearbook staff, we
thank you for your support of our 2008-2009
Valhalla yearbook. We promise that every page in
this book will give you an up-close-and-personal
view into the lives of our Raider family.

This book is filled with the many memories we've
created throughout this year at Northeast High.
Inside these pages, you will find lifelong
friendships, great accomplishments, and the
inspirational educators who made these
accomplishments possible. We have included the
good memories, along with the bad ones, because
we realize that you cannot learn and accomplish
great things without struggling for them. Yet, we,
the Mighty Raiders always prevail.

In closing, we hope that viewing this book will
make you laugh, cry, reminisce, and fill you with a
sense of that Raider Pride. We should be proud
because we have faced many obstacles with dignity.
We have mastered life on "The Hill" and are now
moving to the mountaintop!

Kayla J. Cooper, Editor-in-Chief

Live Your Life

Laughs, tears, victory, defeat it's all a
part of this thing we call life at Northeast
High School. Like most teens, we go
through our trials, have our friendships
tested, and strive each day to be better
people than we were yesterday.

Our lives today are as complicated or as
simple as we make them. The choices we
face range from what shoes match this

A Fight To The Hilltop! :
The Northeast Raiders really worked hard this summer to ensure that this year's football
season would not end in defeat like last Season's did. Head coach Bruce Mullen constantly
reminds the team of how they.ended on a bad note with a missed field releyTMeltigiirem- Mell elit
game and how this year they need to avoid this at all costs. The Raiders went to Valdosta
during the summer and defeated *many teams from all around Georgia, Florida, and
Alabama. They finished in second place for the tournament. They also took.on many other
teams from around the region to get a jump on the season. As a result, they performed well.
One life, one team, one champion" is the new chant for the seniors that reminds them to
leave it all on the field and how they need to avoid making the same mistake. The Raiders
depend on the new senior starters of the team, who are #4 Sheldon Mays (CB/WR), #6
Quintavious Nelson (WR), #22 A.J. Cornelius (RB/LB),#16 Nathaniel Walker (FS), #27
Emanuel Pleasant (CB), #36 Reginald Poole (SS), #85 Deonte Gainey (TE,LB), and #88

The Raiders' Wrestling Team is one of the most physically challenging sports offered. Head
coach Bruce Mullen and his assistant Percy Charlton have directed a stellar team this year.

With players like senior Derrick Stanley on the squad, the wrestling team has what it takes to
go all the way to the top. Last season, we finished at the state level. This year, these wrestling

Raiders strive to finish as Class AA State Champions. Go Raiders!!!

Hard work pays off, and no event proves that more than Awards Day.
Every spring, the Raiders in grades 9-11 are recognized and honored for
their academic achievement. This special ceremony presents an
opportunity for students and parents to reflect on the progress made
during the school year and to give those who don't receive awards
something to aspire to next year. These Raiders know that being the "life
of the classroom" is far more important than being the "life of the party.

For four decades, Northeast High School has hosted many events & invitationals in Mark
Smith's gym. The gym, which once held only 500 people, is now capable of
accommodating more than 1,000 spectators. The gym has been re-named "Copeland's
Court" in honor of Coach Alvin Copeland, who was also named the 2009 Sports Director
of the Year. Coach Copeland has spent more than 40 years putting his all into Northeast's
athletic program. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new gym marked a special day not
only for Coach Copeland, but it was also a celebration for Northeast and east-Macon as a
whole. It was a milestone for Coach Copeland, the girls' and boys' basketball teams, and
future athletes who will play in Copeland's Court for generations to come.
