'N" SIDE THE MIND OF
DR SCAVELLA

He was this close to becoming a NFL player, but fate stepped in and now Dr.
Sam Scavella, who initally was a business major, is the complex principal at
Northeast Health Science Magnet High School.

Dr. Scavella's tenure at Northeast has been met with a myriad of highs
and lows. His best memory as principal of Northeast was seeing all the heart-
felt tears and happy faces when he shared the graduation results with the
class of 2008 and so many of them had passed. The biggest challenge he
has had to face is reaching out to all Northeast students parents about how
critical it is to make good decisions about their child's education while
stressing the importance of parental involvement.

Not only is Dr. Scavella like a father to the students here, he is a real
father to three daughters. Dr. Scavella says that being a principal makes him
a better parent, but being a parent also makes him a better principal. "So it is
a reciprocal process," he says.

Because he is such a strong disciplinarian, most people would be shocked
to know that he was the class clown in high school. "But | knew what it took
for me to graduate and accomplish my goals."

He is charged with ensuring that every student at Northeast receives a
quality education, which he believes is "the sum total of the learning
experiences a student encounters in a given day." And that's the real "N" side
story!

ACHIEVING GREAT THINGS THROUGH PRIDE, PROGRESS AND PROFESSIONALISM"

Who's "N'' Office.......

Our administrative staff here at Northeast is one unlike any other. They work
hard everyday to make sure that our school operates the way a school should and

to establish a good and safe learning environment for the students. They strive to
make us better adults in the future. You could say that they are our guardians
away from home. Who Knows where we would be if it weren't for them? Thanks
for all that you do in order to make Northeast what it is.

What's Inside These Pages?
A Letter from the Editor

We've all heard that there are two sides to every
story, but here at Northeast, life is more like one, long,
unending narrative with surprises on every page,
smiles at every paragraph, tears in every chapter, and
everything else in between.

This year's theme, "The N Side Story," is our way
of giving the rest of the world the true, inside story of
what it's like to be a Raider and a resident of Raider
Country.

As you browse through this book, the chapters of
our lives unfold as quickly as the pages do. The story
of 2008 is a story of hardships being overcome, trials
being turned into triumphs, and battles fought and
won. The "N" Side Story is our way of giving the rest
of the world a glimpse into the Raider way of doing
things. As always, the truth isn't on the surface but
the "N" side, waiting to be discovered. We invite you
to come along for the ride.

This year, the Raiderettes Softball team made a turnaround. Jn the past,
the team has suttered trom a losing streak. The qirls worked very hard
this summer to start their season off night. The Raiderettes showed a
tremendous amount of dedication tor their team and were determined to
make a change. Betore the season, they started off with two pre-season
games, already voith a record of 2-O. With the help of new coach, Robert
Woods, the Raiderettes proved that they are qreat IMside and out of the

What made you choose
cheerleading over other
organizations?

Because it has been
something that I love to
do and it fits my
personality.

Every Raider Has a Little Cheerleader N'side of Them
, cheerleader is more than a girl who jumps, yells, and shakes her pom-poms. The Northeast High School cheerleaders are there for
pur teams in rain or shine, whether they're cheering the Raiders to victory or being the voice of solace during a humbling defeat Our
syeerleaders are as much a part of the athletic landscape as coaches and referees. They often leave the games hoarse, injured, and
xhausted, bul they dont let anything dampen their Raider spirit. The cheerleaders are the heart and soul of the school, and Northeast
just wouldnt be the same without them. Go ahead and admit it there's a litle cheerleader inside of us all!

The Editor-In-Chief and the Business Manager would like to
thank all of the businesses who supported us this year with
2007-2008 yearbook. We appreciate everything that your
business has done and donated to us.

As the yearbook editor, | always assumed that being a part of
the yearbook staff consisted of taking pictures, getting into all of
the games for free, and getting out of class early. After a few
weeks on the staff, however, | realized that it's so much more
than that. It includes pressing deadlines, not having a life for
weeks at a time, frustration with staff members, and stress at
hypertension levels. Despite all this, though, the joy of seeing the
school's memories and special moments put into print make all of
the drama seem worthwhile.

A job of this magnitude can not be accomplished by one person
alone, and | would like to take this time to thank the dedicated
Staff members, photographers, and teachers who worked as
tirelessly as | did. This book couldn't have been a success without
you and our supporters.

It's the culminating event of twelve years of hard work, sweat, and tears: High School Graduation. The Northeast
Class of 2008 proudly took to the stage on May 24, 2008, to receive their high school diplomas in front of friends,
family, and faculty. There were as many tears as there were smiles, as we bid farewell to our childhood and high school
days in preparation for what lies ahead in the future. While we are all destined for different directions, our hearts will
never stray too far from the red, black, and gold!!
