If these walls could talk, they would...

...laugh at the good times, cry for the mournful
times, cheer trumphantly at its successes, and scold
those souls that befoul its interior. They'd give a
long sigh like grandma or grandpa sitting in the
old, creaking rocking chair. Slowly they'd rock,
back and forth, fanning an old tattered church fan,
and say, Well my child, it all began a long time ago,
when I was young and new and my paint still
glistening. When the first soul walked my halls,
how proud I was. Although great I was, there was
something missing. Intergration came and all was
well. Beautiful and magnificent I stood atop this
hill. Generations came with a deep yearning for
learning and left with their minds heavily laden
with knowledge. Legacies were created in men and
women alike. Now its our time, the Hip Hop
generation, to grow and make choices about the
road ahead. Our Legacy Starts Here.

Legacies

You and your parents may call it Northeast, but the
school has actually held a host of names. Just ask
your grandparents about some of them. Try back
when football games were only $1.00 or how about
majority of the students being white. Think of no
dress code. The main hairstyle of choice was an afro.
Imagine seeing Coach Copeland with a fro.

This was the Northeast during the late 70s and early
80's. Many of us probably dont recognize graduates from Northeast past those who left our
freshmen year. But if you look around, these are Northeast graduates everywhere: parents,
coaches, teachers, janitors, campus police, and even principals. Their view is much different
from ours.

When Mrs. Glover attended Northeast, the school
was built for white children only. The school slowly
became an all black school. She graduated from
Northeast in 1971. Back then she wore afros,
platform shoes, and bell bottom pants. Mrs. Glover
is now the mother of one girl and one boy. She has
been married for 23 years. She attended Macon State
College for two years and went to Mercer University
to major in music for two years. She then went to
Georgia College for a special education degree in
mental retardation. Her daughter Ariel is a
sophomore this year.

Mrs. Jeffreys is a computer teacher at Northeast who has been
working here for the past two years. She graduated in 1981,
and the mother of one son. She and her husband have been
married for 11 years. She attended Georgia State University.
She completed six years with a Bachelors and Masters degree.
Mrs. Jeffreys is a Delta.

&, VALHALLA 2006: LEGACIES

Coach Mullen is a husband and the father of four children.
He attended Fort Valley State University for four and half
years to major in education. The styles that he remembers
wearing were bellbottoms and stack heels. The school games
were only a dollar.

Mrs. Lynch is the mother of one daughter, and has been
married for 20 years. Things that she enjoys are
socializing, reading, and traveling. Ms. Lynch attended
Morris Brown College for her bachelors degree and
Novel Southeastern University for her masters. Back
when she was in school the style was afros, pumps, and
gauchos. The school was less strict and students
exercised more rights.

Officer Johnson is a wife and mother of two daughters.
She attended MSC, but left soon after finding out that
she was pregnant. Her family life started very early.
Officer Johnson then went into the military and it
changed her path. She then went into security and now
she is in law enforcement. The style she remembers were
flips, mushroom, shaggy, straight legs, no sagging, izod,
polo, and pumps. The of view of the school was that
fights were rare; 60% black 40% white population. The
prom also was held in the lunchroom. She graduated in
1980

Cime Hav Change He,

Older, wiser and more than an institution in Macon and middle
Georgia, Northeast Health Science Magnet High School is a model for
hard work, vast knowledge and success. A new era dawned as the school
made the transition from a boy/girl academy of the 1960s, to the joining
of Mark Smith High School and Lasseter High School. The halls were
painted, the desks brand spanking, and a new book smell filled the air for
the first day. Thirty years later things are different. The new smell is only
a memory. Campus police is vital to safety, and for a while our vending
machines were broken into weekly.

Though Northeast has experienced many different changes the posi-
tives over-shine the negatives. Teaching is extremely highly regarded in
our area and our sports teams are possibly the best. Once a new young
coach on the hill, Alvin J. Copeland has given this school pride and
transformed our girls basketball team into a dynasty. Along with football
and track and field, we are recognized as the premier school for physical
success. Northeast is also a premier educational school. Winning count-
less awards in the academic field, our staff has changed us into a institu-
tion for knowledge.

FACES IN...

Future nurses, professional athletes, teachers, and
armed service leaders all walk the halls of Northeast
on a daily basis, learning what it takes to succeed in
the real world. Students at Northeast have big
dreams, and big goals. Although they may seem
idealistic to some, they have a plan to make their
dreams come true. These students are determined to
do what it takes to succeed in life, and no matter
what obstacles will come their way, they refuse to
quit, and to alwaysremember to keep on keeping on.

Whos Getting A Job?

Now whos getting the jobs? Think about it, look around, its not that hard!
For the 2005-2006 school year, many students from Northeast High Schoo!
ages of 15 to 18 started to take over the job industry. Many raiders and
raiderettes can be found working at jobs such as fast food restaurants
pharmacies, or the mall between the hours of 3:00 P.M. and 10:00 P.M.. For
most students having a job is a source of independence and freedom, and
with this newfound freedom also comes responsibility. Like being on time
for work, being able to adapt to someone elses rules besides your own, and
being able to handle and get along with different types of people and their
attitudes.

WORKING

N ORTHEAST
RAIDERS

Hey! Isn't that what we as students deal with in high school? I guess what the
teachers and administrators have been telling us is right: How you perform
in school will affect the way you perform in society. Also with this newfound
responsibility you must be able to balance a social life (if you can afford to
still have one), school, and after school activities. For most students it is hard
to maintain everything, especially during midterms, final exams, SATs, and
the graduation test. All of the extra stress can start to wear on a student's

body: mentally, physically, and emotionally. So the question is, can you still
handle the pressure?

You dont have to worry about them getting
dressed in the last minute because they looked
well prepared.

The 7O's day tradition is to as, you all know,
Start a soul train line at the dance. People went
down the line taking turns shaking their groove
thangs and just having a good time. This
Psychedelic event took place in the Lasseter
gymnasium where there was only good old 70's
music being played.

This Junior Willie Rouse really knows how to put
the dyna in DYN-AM-ATE:. He looks like he doesnt
have fo think twice on what hes going to wear.
He's in the Spirit and the mood fo get groovy.
This junior also won the best dressed for 70's
day which is no shock. He did a very good job.

&>, VALHALLA 2006: LEGACIES

Now we come down fo the last day, but ifs
ok because its the best and spirited of all. We had
_ a pep rally in this date and time which turned out
to be great. The Raiders put alot of energy in this
event. Megan Forsythe did a good job pumping
the junior class up. After all this is the last day we
= have fo get our football players motivated for the
game.

As you can see in this picture our Raiders
have lots of energy buf, we know when fo seftle
down to show Mrs. Carter thaf we are not from
the bugabear alley. The Raiders stay with in
their limits. There is so much excitement and
energy in so little space, we make things seem

Our dancers also play a big role in this
excitement of fun along with the band,
cheerleaders, the footplayers and of course the
crowd to cheer them on. The Raiders also did a
good job on getting dressed. Some people didnt
think that was enough, so they also painted
their faces with our school
colors.

Last but not least, a pep rally isnt just a pep rally

without the drum majors from the marching
Raider Band. This concludes our Raider Spirit
Week memory. | hope you enjoyed.

Walter L. Danielly, AKA All Walt, was born on January 26,

1947. He was born in Fort Valley, GA to the parents Odesa and

Pennsylvania he encountered a lot of segregation but it wasnt

as bad as it was in the south. In the south everything, such as the

bathrooms and water fountains, were separated. He attended

= H.A. Hunt high school and maintained good grades. In the

MICHELLE WALTER household there was a lot of competition between his siblings

and him with who got the better grades. They couldnt come

BRASWELL DANIELLY home with a C or anything lower. He ran track, played football,

and was in a club called New Farmers of America where he

judged hogs and cows. He also participated in the math & science

clubs and sang in the choir. Since he wasnt allowed to work

during school, during the summer he worked in packing houses,

packing peaches. He attended Fort Valley State University. His

freshman year he ran track. He was in the fraternity Omega Psi

Leaving school early and gossiping with a few of

her friends was the daily thing for her. In the

evening, when she and her friends were looking

for fun, they went to the Skating Rink. Her

She was well known throughout the neighborhood

Freshmen

When you think about being a Freshman you
think WOW your first year in high school. You
probably start out not knowing anybody and
thinking all the upper classmen rule the school.
You alsostart thinking about who you trust as
friends.44 your Freshman year, you learn a lot of
things.that might change your life forever. You
might even learn that high school isnt all about
CLIQUES arid Who's the cutest person or
whatever. It really about getting your work done
and trying to Sweceed in your later life in college.
High school is really not a joke! This year you all
have an advantage thamother kids. You all are in
the 9th grade academy. Where you get to know
your teachers more ahd get the feeling of high
school with out all the distraction of the upper
classmen.

As you grow up you @lways think about life
beyond your teenage years. As you leave middle
school you cant wait to be a high school student.
You have the responsibility of doing your work,
being on time and paying attention Wf class. But,
high school isnt all about work. Its a time to have
fun also. Being with friends and ,making new
friends. The 9th grade work might be challenging
than 8th grade but you are just growing intona
young adults and learning the life of being a
teenager.

Sophomores

Who are Sophomores? Sophomores are the kids
who think having seniority over the freshman is an
accomplishment. These students are just getting
the feel of what it is to be a high school student.
They are-rowdy, but their generous attempt to grab
the spotlight at pep rallies fall short to the true
upperclassmen and sometimes even to the class
below. Still, as you walk the halls of almost any
high school you'lsee them acting foolish and
being playful with, friends. But now that the class
of 2008 is wellinto high school, they should be
realizing the importance of coming to school and
planning for the futures

When you are a sophomore, you have a better
chance of getting your learners and showing off
your driving skills. The two years left they need to
make the best of it, because when you graduate
you will go your separate ways. On top of all these
things sophomores have to study a lot to prepare
themselves for the next year.

Mr. & Ms. Sophomore have their own opinion
about the class they represent. Ariel'Glover thinks
that they have more power and authority than the
freshmen. She says the work is much harder-Now
that she is a sophomore, she knows more people
and feels more welcome. Darrius James said
everything feels the same. His meaning of a
sophomore is that he has two more years before
graduation. He said the only difference between
his freshmen year and his sophomore year is the
classes.

Juniors

One more. Just one more year until you
are the utmost, the highest. Having to look up
to no one. Being able to see all others below
you. But before you get carried away its all still
one moreyyear. Juniors are the backbone of the
student.body. They can oversee freshmen,
sophomores and ina few cases seniors. We have
realized thatfit is time to stop playing around
and become seri@us about what we will do for
the rest of our lives.

It is time to let the imageries of freshmen
go and the careless lives of sophomores in the
past and move into/being not as mature as our
older brothers and sisters but to only be at a
junior maturity level. Weestill must become
serious about college, Our careers, and our
futures, but we must remember not to burn
ourselves out and stay young and fresh.

This is our year when we firstturn sixteen
or seventeen and we are given the freedom to
drive and enter the work force forthe first time.
Juniors use their abilities to find jobs anywhere
possible because between gas, clothes, cell
phone bills and just spending money, being a
junior is expensive. The eleventh grade is only
a practice for the twelfth where we will already
have all the knowledge so that we will be

successful. It will only be one more year until

our graduation day.

Hungry? Why Wait.

Come on! I know that
you had one of those
times when you woke
up very late and didnt
have time for
breakfast. Youre on
the way to school with
an empty stomach.
This meal is the most
important meal of the
day and without it your
brain might not be on
full alert for the class
work you have ahead
of you. Then, your bus
comes late so, you
have to go straight to
class. Your next
chance would be to go
to lunch or of course to
the vending machine.
But in the meantime,
you're still hungry. The
question is, what would
you do if you can no
longer wait? These are
some of the responses
we got from your
fellow classmates:

Tl would ask the
teacher to go to the
restroom and end up at
the snack machine.

Ah CDC PRIEAKING NIEWS

Senioritis is a less than moderate interest in
school-related activities that students usually

cquire, around the last semester of their senior
year. This controversial, syndrome has symptoms that
include;

Procrastination Laziness

Sleeping

If you have yet to experience these symptoms, be
careful because this disease is contagious. It is

easily spread among high school seniors everywhere.

CIdC PRIEAKING NEWS

E> 39 VALHALLA 2006: LEGACIES

Ay CIC PRIEAKING NEWS

Below are just a couple of the dangers of contracting
this disease.

Colleges can revoke their offer of admission

Your college performance can be affected

Now that you know of the dangers of coming into
contact with this disease, you may be wondering if
there is a sure for senioritis. Unfortunately, the
only real sure for this disease is graduation.
However, you can utilize preventative care to ensure
that you are not infected with this disease. Here's
now:

Challenge yourself

Make schoolwork more intereasting

Stay involved

Take a college course

Senioritis is extremely easy to catch, and once you
have it, VERRRY hard to get rid of. So, try to keep
the above-mentioned preventative measures in mind
while you enjoy your last few months of high school.
It'll be worth it in the end.

Cheerleading Team <<

This year Northeast Health/Science Magnet High Schools Junior
Varsity Cheerleading team has been a very special year. With a
new team and a new coach (Ms. Kenyada Morton), this squad has
become the best JV Cheerleading team in the city. This is the first
year in a while that we were able to maintain a JV squad this big.
These girls have worked extremely hard; they have shed blood,
tears, and sweat. Even though there might have been hard times,
they were able to stay friends and maintain that Raider dignity;
now thats whats being a cheerleader is all about!

The JV Cheerleading squad consists of:

Mariah Harris (Captain), DeAndria Green (co-Captain), Kimberly Taylor,
