In the summer of 2004, the members of the Lizella Baptist Church Vision
ministry teams went on a mission trip to Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Seven of the
mission team members; Amanda Moore, Heather Tainter, Chad Tainter,
Holly Polk, Brooke Singleton, Ashli Banks and Caitlin Johnson, attend
Rutland High. Their purpose was to minister to children and adults who
were in need of the word of God. They went to several elementary schools,
childrens homes, and even performed at a soccer field.
Along the way, they had many hardships such as safety issues, transporta-
tion problems, and trying to get a trampoline through customs at the
Atlanta Airport. Also, at one of the ministries, several team members
fainted from dehydration and heat exhaustion, while others had obtained
minor injuries. However, the healthy members took over for the ones that
were sick, and on the way back to the hotel, took care of their fellow
teammates. Other problems occurred, but the team held together. They

Pine Forest Baptist Church
In the summer of 2004, Laura Horton and Dale
Ratterree went on a mission trip to Many Farms,
Arizona, with a group from Pine Forest Baptist Church.
Their main goal was to reach the Navajo Nation, who
live in this area, with the message of Jesus Christ. At
the local church, they helped organize a Bible School
for the unfortunate kids, and taught a sign language
to them. They also raised money for a nearby family .
Dale and Laura discovered that they had to work hard
to overcome many cultural barriers to present the
Gospel.
Five days, 100-110 degree heat, 10 hours a day. Doesn't seem like much fun *
does it? For the youth group of Liberty United Methodist Church, it is the :
highlight of the year for some of them. The mission program they
participate in, Oconee Outreach Opportunity, gives the youth an
opportunity to give their time and effort for the less fortunate in
Washington County, Georgia. During the week, the youth discover the real
meaning of being thankful as they re-shingle a roof, climb underneath a
house to fix the plumbing, paint an entire house, or simply form a
ee the homeowner. It was an eye-opening experience.
Students from Rutland that attended the mission trip were Molly
Bloodworth, Tyler Combs, Ed Freeman, Jenna Green, Wesley Green, Spencer
Lowe, Taylor Smalling, Julie Soles, Lindsey Soles, Emily Suber, Brittany
Thrift, and Ryan Turner.

Dewayne Cuberbatchs favorite movie is South Central and he
loves the fact that he is finally graduating. He loves watching the
T.V. Show Nip/Tuck and his favorite food is Chinese. Dewaynes
favorite book is Tuesdays With Morrie. He recently moved to
Macon from Brooklyn, New York and had to admit he liked New
York City better. The lifestyles are a lot different along with the
buildings and people. When he leaves high school he says he'll
miss the girls.
As a senior, | like the senior privileges we have like leaving for
lunch early. | like being in high school because | get to see my
friends everyday. | give the advice to underclassmen to keep a
goal in mind. | plan on probably going to Mercer, but | havent
decided what to major in yet. A place | would really like to go visit
is Australia and | think it would be cool to meet somebody big like
the President of the United States or the Pope.
Eurick will miss all the people hes met during high school and the
many places he has gone to after he graduates. He likes being abl
to have the privilege of leaving early for lunch because hes a
senior. Eurick hopes to be a computer engineer when he leaves
high school and wants to tell underclassmen to take school serious
ly because it really can help you in life. His most memorable high
school moment was when the Rutland basketball team won its firs
game.
Stay in school and make good grades, is the advice that Dorkei-
cia Bouquia leaves for the underclassmen at Rutland High
school. She is very excited about being a senior because she is
finally getting out of school. Dorkeicia admits that she never really
had any embarrassing moments during high school and when she
finally graduates she hopes to work in cosmotology or to be a
child care worker.
Brandi
Hamilton
Brandis favorite part about being a senior is that shes almost
through with high school. She loves the memories of hanging out
with her friends and movies shes seen over the years. Brandi
wants to tell underclassmen to study hard because you dont want
to be in school longer than you have to be. She wont miss anything
from high school except getting to see her friends everyday. Brandi
dreams of being a chef or an artist after high school.
Coming from someone who's been through the struggle, never let
any person, teacher or student underestimate you or what you can
do. My favorite part of being a senior is getting to go to lunch early
and getting to leave school early. My most embarrassing moment
was at Southwest when | fell out of my chair in the lunchroom. I'll
miss my friends, the high shool parties, and tripping out with my
peeps. My goal is to become an R.N. or owning my own Beauty
Salon, Spa or Daycare Center.
Jarvis leaves this advice to underclassman, Pay attention, try to
pass all your classes now, so when you become a senior you wont
have to stuggle. His most memorable high school moments were at
his previous schools pep rallies and all the laughs hes had. Jarvis
favorite part about being a senior is knowing that he gets to
graduate in May. His dream job is to be a CEO of an advertising
company.
Jaimie is really excited that this is her last year in high school. She
loves getting to be in classes with her friends from the time she was
in elementary school. Jaimies favorite teacher is Madame Aldridge
because she teaches well. She leaves the advice to underclassmen
to pay attention to your teacher or you'll probably fail. Her favorite
book is One Last Time by John Edwards and her favorite T.V.
show is Rugrats.

Chorus 157

Congratulations!
Youve made it through,
-Many great places
That you ve been to!
Youve seen many faces
While on your way!
Many great choices
Behind you now lay.
Oh!
The places you ve gone!
You ve made your way up!
You ve seen new places!
You joined the great minds
Of many different races!
You got mixed up of course,
As you already knew.
But you ve ended up the best
While the time flew.

Thousands Take President Clintons
Bypass Surgery to Heart
Former President Bill Clinton's much publicized
quadruple heart bypass operation has boosted
visits to cardiology centers and emergency
rooms across the country leading to what
some are calling the Clinton effect. A simple
test that scans for calcium build-up in the
arteries Can give women and men an earlier
warning about potential heart problems. In
addition, taking precautions such as keeping
a healthy weight, reducing stress, eating a
low-fat diet, reducing cholesterol, exercising

Madrid Bombings Kill Hundreds
A series of explosions ripped through packed commuter
trains in Madrid, Spain, on March 11, 2004, killing 201
people and injuring more than 1,500. At least three bombs
exploded at Atocha station as an express train was arriving,
Cutting several carriages virtually in two. The terrorist group
al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility.
Heading North for Prescriptions
Due to shrinking budgets and increasing healthcare costs,
some states are exploring ways to buy prescription drugs
from Canada, even though importing the medicines is illegal.
Generally, Canadian drugs are significantly cheaper because
of government price controls. The FDA, however, says it
cannot guarantee the safety of imported medicines and has
warned states about violating the law. >

In a 570-page report, the 911 Commission

Low Carb Diets Put the Squeeze on Farmers
To help win the battle of the bulge, millions of Americans have
adopted a low carbohydrate lifestyle, swearing off bread, pasta,
and potatoes. And while this may be a boon for beef, poultry and
other protein producers, many grain and potato farmers have seen
demand for their productsand their revenuesdip dramatically.
Even sales of such American favorites as Girl Scout cookies and
Krispy Kreme doughnuts have slimmed down considerably. 4
Record Deficits Plague U.S. Econom
Additional expenses of almost $80 billion for the
war in Iraq will push the federal deficit to a record
$427 billion for fiscal 2005. This comes on the
heels of a record deficit of $412 billion recorded in
fiscal 2004. Despite record-breaking spending,
President Bush continues to pledge to cut the
budget deficit in half by 2009. 4
Social Security Woes
President Bush's plan to overhaul Social
Security by creating a privatized system has s
met with cheers from young people and
jeers from older folks. While Bush claims his
plan would allow for individual investment Vie \ od .
of funds and personal control, Democrats #2 f
say that support for current Social Security
recipients would disappear, bankrupting
the system. The search for a solution is
quietly moving forward, but no compromise
is eminent, due to wide differences between UB, i
