EXPERTS SPEAK:
The Falcons are going to win the Super-
bowl this year.
The Clippers are going to win the cham-
pionship.
The Macon Whoppes are going to win
the CHL championship.
Michael Jordan will play baseball again.
The Atlanta Braves will never win a
game again.
Michael Jordan is not a pro.
Shaq will shrink to 3ft. 7 inches.
The Milwaukee Bucks will win the
championship.
Michael Jackson won the rushing title for
the Kansas City Chiefs.
When I grow up, | want to be Tiger
Woods caddie.
If the Falcons make the Super Bowl in
the year 2000, will the game be blacked
out in Macon?
I got completely cold at the Falcons
game.
I dont know what everyone is upset
about. All the Falcons have to do is win
2000 games in a row. Oh look, I just saw
a UFO.
Basketball is my favorite sport besides
tennis, because thats what I play.
Michael Jordan, because he has proved
himself to be a skilled basketball player.
I feel that Southwest has the talent to
defeat Central, S.E., and N.E. after all we
are the Patriots. Tukesha Jordan
I love basketball because its interesting
and plus thats where a lot of the boys
are.
Penny Hardaway, because he can play
and hes FINE!! Melanie Hall.
I like basketball because it is a very com-
petitive sport.
My favorite basketball player is Michael
Jordan because he is the greatest player
of all time. Mandy Myers

} Sisterly Love
Dear Kelly:
Eleven months are all that you had to yourself, and then you got me.
Every since then | remember being with you and following quickly in your
footsteps. It was an everlasting attempt to impress my "big sister. |
wanted to do it better than you or just as perfectly as you did. Like they say,
opposites attract and believe me, noone is as different than you and I.
From being quiet to loud,
english peas to spinach,
pepperoni pizza to supreme,
jeans and a t-shirt to short
skirts and fitted tops!
We've always stayed next to
each other. You wouldn't move up to the
next sunday school class until | was
promoted. Now, | just wish that you could
wait on me before going off to school.
I'm going to miss having someone
to argue with, fuss at for not cleaning up
the room. But, most of all, someone
that | can always confide in. No one knew
me quite like you. Some how, you
could tell when | was upset or in trouble.
You always knew just what to say,
when to say it and how to say it. In spite
of all our differences and arguments,
you will always be number one on my list.
You are one person that | constantly
look up to. No one loves you or appreciates
you more than I.
GY; 1 we meet again
Uf never fo get you
os the Class of 97.
Love Ya,
Robin

Twinkle, twinkle, little Star Then the traveller in the dark
Thanks you for your tiny spark:
: How could he see where to go,
Twinkle twinkle, little star If you did not twinkle so?
How I wonder what you are, In the dark blue sky you keep,
Up above the world so high, Often through my curtains peep,
Like a diamond in the sky. For you never shut your eye,
Till the sun is in the sky
When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon, As your bright and tiny spark
Then you show your little light, Lights the traveller in the dark,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night. __Theugh 1 Know not what you are,
Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

Current Events
The 1996/97 school year has certainly been an interesting one here at Southwest, both good and
bad. We got a new mascot and one of our own now serves as State Beta Club President. Our
basketball teams continued to shine and our band, as usual, was the best. As we say good-bye
to the class of 96 and hello to the class of '97, it became pretty obvious that things outside of
Southwest and around the world were pretty interesting. Sadly, this year saw a great number
of tragedies that put things into prespective. The bombing of abortion clinics, multiple airplane
crashes, the Olympic bombing, and the hundreds of people who lost their lives to senseless
violent crimes showed how cruel and how kind people could be.
This year was also active in music and
television. Everyone seemed to be doing
a new dance called the Macarena. New
Edition finally reunited and Outkast came
out with a new C. D. that had everyone
singing about "me and you, yo mama, and
yo cousin, too". Groups like Hootie and
The Blowfish defied racial barriers by
making okay for anyone of any race to sing
any kind of music. Three people you could
every imagine being parents, Prince,
Madonna, and Michael Jackson became
just that but not without the usual gossip.
In television news, Bryant Gumbel left
Good Morning America" and a new net-
work, UPN, brought us shows like "Moesha"
and Homeboys in Outer Space.
The Beat
Goes On
In sports news....The Atlanta Braves lost to the New York Yankees in the World Series. The
Olympics came to Atlanta and both the women's basketball and women's gymnastic teams won
gold medals. Surprisingly, Mike Tyson lost to Evander Holyfield and twenty year old Tiger
Woods showed the world that golf was more than fat guys in funny looking plaid pants. Macon
received their own hocky team, Macon Whoopees, and the Coliseum was open to the public
for ice skating. Michael Jordan came out with not only a movie, Space Jam", but with his
own cologne and much to the delight of Cheese Heads", the Green Bay Packers won the
super bowl. This year in sports was a good year for women, a professional basketball leaque
was started, giving women a chance to prove that they are just as good as the men.
This year the world lost the presence of
some famous faces. These people have
certainly affected th way we think and have
paved the way for those following in their
footsteps. They are: Ella Fitzgerald,
Barbara Jordan, Gene Kelly, Spiro Agnew,
Tupac Shakur, Minnie Pearl, Ron Brown,
Enis Cosby, Tiny Tim.
The year in politics was quite entertaining. During the presidential campaign, Bob Dole fell
off a platform while waving to a group of reporters. He wasn't hurt but he lost. As a result
of his lost, Bill Clinton took the oath of office for the second time. President Clinton is not
only the first Democrat to serve a second term since Roosevelt, but he will be the one to
lead our country into the next century. Under President Bill Clinton, the first woman Secretary
of State was appointed.
Other news: a seven year-old boy had sexual harrassment charges brought against him for
kissing a classmate. Paige Goodman sued to become valedictorian of her class. John F.
Kennedy, Jr. got married.

KIDS WHO ARE DIFFERENT
Here's to the kids who are different,
The kids who dont always get A's.
The kids who have ears twice the size of their peers,
And noses that go on for days...
Here's to the kids who are different,
The kids they call crazy or dumb,
The kids who don't fit, with the guts and the grit,
Who dance to a different drum
Heres to the kids who are different,
The kids with the mischievous streak,
For when they have grown, as history's shown,
Its their difference that makes them unique

A true friend listens to what you say, life's a sculpter. Friends are clay,
friends are notes to life's greatest song, a melody to carry you along.
Whether it's a joy or a fear, whenever life is hard they're near in a world
of darkness friends are light so thank your lucky stars tonight. When life
gets hard and goais seem far, it's then you'll know who your true friends are.
