Living Is Easy
Here at MDS, students are continuously
reminded of all those Little Things That
Count;
1. The effect of gravity on your open
bookbag. Works especially well in the rain.
2. Always remember your locker
combination. Enough said.
3. Sleep is an essential part of MDS life.
4. Unless you really enjoy the Friday
dentention experience, belts are a must.
5. Speeding tickets are also an integral
part of teenage life. Watch for policeman.
6. Leaving P.E. clothes in your locker is a
definite NO. It attracts roaches and other
unmentionable things.
7. Out-of-dress-code days are a qift of God.
Remember to utilize them to their full
advantage.
8. Always remember the right book for
English class. There are only three. Or was
it four?
Thank goodness its Friday! Kim Sarabia
walks quickly to her next class with a spring in
her step that only comes from knowing that

What is your favorite class of the

that, and eating delicious cafeteria
food are just a few lunchtime activities.
This years seniors enjoy going to
favorite hangouts such as Sids and

great part of being a senior. But while

excitement of Homecoming by coming

Gifts From the Heart
During November students were
encouraged to bring food for needy
families, with a different item
requested for each day over a period
of a week. We came together to
worship and display our efforts. Each
student was asked to donate a dollar
and reflect on the true meaning of
Thanksgiving. As Christmas
approached, the student body focused
on the concept of giving. Students
picked various toys from a wish list to
bring for less fortunate children so that
they too could have a Merry
Christmas. These gifts were collected
so that they could be presented to
SERVE for distribution. The

Students always look forward to
Positive Attitudes Day. Sponsored by
the Student Council to raise money to
send new Student Council officers to
leadership camp, it is a day of fun,
games, and no classes. Students could
participate in many events throughout
the day. Some stuffed their faces in the
Pie Eating Contest while others
showed off their great leqs in the Best
Legs Contest. A popular game was
challenging other students in Bouncy
Boxing. Another favorite activity was
dunking a teacher at the dunking
booth. Also new this year, was the
Volleyball-a-Thon in which students
from different grades battled it out on
the court. Some great food was
available at the The Happy Saucer
Coffee Shop and the Sno Cone booth.
The struggles are always going to be there.

Friends change and we with time but
not in the ways of friendship.
Anonymous
As the years go by, we grow older
and change not only in stature,
maturity and personality but also in
the company we keep. High school can
aid in the formation of friendships that
may last a lifetime. Talking on the
phone, laughing, sharing secrets,
supporting each other, friends are our
voices of reason and our biqgest fans.
At Mount de Sales, friendships flourish
and prove to be the best cure toa
gloomy day or a bad mood. Friends of
all different races, religions, genders,
social classes and walks of life can be
found just by peeking in classrooms or
down hallways. Whether we're six or

We are not afraid to face each day with a tendency to
strive.
Our dreams that are before us we conquer one by one.
Dignity is our middle name and friendship our backbone.
Diverse as we are, as a whole we are invinceable.
Yesterday, we were distant but we learned to accept and
now we remember who we used to be.
Today, we cherish as we stand side by side and see that
together we have walked this far through life.
And tomorrow, we dream about, eagerly as better people,
wiser, and more mature.

The 1996 Varsity Boys

new era with many changes.
Last spring when Coach
Slocum decided to end his
basketball coaching career,
Coach Don Sherwood
stepped into the vacated po-
sition and must have felt the
pressure of keeping the win-
ning tradition alive. Yet the
former MDS track and b-
team basketball coach used
his experiences from St.An-
drews Academy and Wayne
County High School to know
the system and make the
transition as smooth as pos-
sible. The boys team was set
with tremendous obstacles.
They had two seniors and a
lot of players with little or no
experience. However, that
didnt stop them as they
played impressively against
teams that had taller and
more seasoned players. The
team beat three GISA pow-
erhouses; Monroe, George
Walton, and Athens Chris-
tian in our own gym to finish
with a winning record of
16-9.

This years baseball team
had many questions that
needed answering by the
end of the season. Who is
going to pitch and how
would the adjustment affect
the team? was the main
one asked during the pre-
season. The loss of 6 se-
niors, 3 of whom pitched
nearly 95% of the time, pre-
sented a challange for the
coaches Tony and Chester
Pierce.
By the first game, it was
evident that the team was
young, composed of only 5
upperclassmen. Although
the season had its ups and
downs, the team finished
with a 10-10 record, win-
ning their last 4 games and
went off to Augusta Chris-
tian to play for the quarter
finals. In a perfectly played
game, Mount de Sales lost
their hard fought battle by
only 5-4.
