Opening |

Once again its on! ... Its another
school year for students, and excite-
ment is in the air with another hype
school year for Northeast Raiders.
The first week of school started off
with the meeting of friends, remi-
niscing of the old school days and
finding out how other classmates
spent their summers. Classmates
asked each other questions that
ranged from: What classes do you
have? to What are you doing this
weekend? Students prepared for
many changes, such as the new se-
mester system and new teachers. As
we buckle down for the months
ahead, many Raiders think about
whats the future going to bring for
them with the education theyve
learned from Northeast High
School.

Students at Northeast star off the school day by meeting
friends and finding out what's up for later that day.

Juniors, Benjil Lightfoot and Kametrius Singleton, have an
embarrassing moment in front of their locker before their next

: class.
Seniors, Shermonte Thomas, Eric Coons, Alphonzo Crawford, and Steven Johnson,

gather around Mr. Parry to receive there grades in Physics.

Sophomore Chan Thrope works hard to make the grade.

Driving to school is the best thing happening for students
at Northeast High. One reason is its a good thing. Stu-
dents get to show off their cars or trucks. Driving to school

is a privilege you look forward to from the beginning of

your high school years. While the majority of Northeast
students are still riding the cheese, a great number drive
to school. Driving to school is indeed a privilege and a
definite boost to ones social life.

Deep in Raider
Country

Everyday between 10:45 am and 12:25 pm Northeast stu-
dents fill empty stomachs, catch up on homework, and spend
time with friends on lunchbreak. This year there is a major
change in the way the lunchroom is run. This welcomed
change is called The Express Line . The Express Line
offers students a variety of foods as well as lessening the time
of waiting in line. The students at Northeast enjoy the
freedom and the relaxing atmosphere on campus during
lunch with popular hangouts being the breezeway in front of
Mark Smith and Lassetter, the Lassetter gym, and of course
the lunchroom. Although there is often conflict over which
lunch half is the best one to be on, lunch break is one of the
most enjoyable moments during the school day.

Alfatina Jordan and Kizzie Ross are happy to be back together after a long summer. Senior Kenny Brown and Junior Shalandria Ware share
a special moment together.

ORAL REPORT

Okay! Class! this a very important
subject. I want to be sure that you
totally understand. What I want you
to do is an oral report.

These are words that EVERY stu-
dent hates to hear, Unfortunately it
has to be done. What do you do?!
How do you began?! How do you
psyche yourself up?! Well, here's
some experieces and tips that your
fellow classmates have.

PREPARATION:

By reciting it in front of the mir-
ror. Also, I'll get someone at home
to listen to me, and give me their
opinion.

TIPS:

T'll try to find an object in the cent-
er of the room, such as the clock and
focus on it.

Melissa Hollingshed
Sophomore

Mike Richardson tries to get his grade in
Mr. Simmons Geometry class.

PREPARTON:
Well, at first I'm nervous. I usually dont
do my oral report until last, but I just say

"God be with me and give me strength to
do this.

rips

The only thing that probably would serve
as a good method is asking God be with
me and give me strength to do this.

Ricardo McLin
Junior

doing their own thing.

PREPARTION:
First, I research the topic thor-
oughly, so that I wil be aie to re-
pond to any questions asked. Next, I
car any materials that might be
elpful when I give my presentation.
After these two Steps, I practice my
speaking, and then I'm ready.

TIPS:

Usually, I just take a few deep
breaths and imagine myuself in re-
laxing surroundings.

ple

Down through the years, we have
truly become young women and
men. The innocence of our fresh-
men year is now replaced by a
wisdom that is only achieved
through experience. No longer do
we walk in huge packs. We are
now stable enough to walk alone.
We dont look up to upperclass-
men anymore: we are looked up to
by underclassmen

After four long years of home-
work, studying, final exams and
following (or Breaking) thousands
of rules, we have finally come to
know what it really means to be a
SENIOR!

It seems as if it were only yes-
terday when we first got up on
the hill. Senior fees, caps and
gowns, college applications, prom
and graduation werent even im-
portant then. Now, we know their
importance all too well!

But soon, those familiar faces and
never ending routines will all be a
distant memory. All of the scan-
trons, lunchlines, wild classes and
fun times with friends will, along
with those boring routines, grad-
ually fade away.

We will go on to trade the red,
black, and gold for some new col-
or. Many of us will become happy
and successful. Many of us may
not. Perhaps we will not even re-
member that first pep rally, win-
ning the spirit chain, the name of
that good for nothing girl that
stole your boyfriend or that mean
teachers name. Whatever lies
ahead, one thing is certain. The
years of our lives in high school
will be remembered especially the
last year Senior year!

Thanks to Northeast School and
the sensational class of 1994 for
four years that were definitely
DEEP!

Safe! Go! Sprint! Touchdown! Serve!
Slam! Pass! Out!

These are just some of those sports
words known by Raider atheletes of the
1993-1994 season. In this section you
will see city champion and record set-
ting Raiders. These Raiders have ex-
perienced the thrill of

victory and the agony of defeat. They
all have something in common and
thats the excitment of playing a sport.

93 Raiders...

After having an upsetting
year and facing a harsh sea-
son ending with only one
win, the 1993 Raiders had
to show that this year was
the season to shine. This
meant a few Raiders had to
start an early pre-season
practice, praticed in a hot
relentless summer, and give
up other leisure time to

D'Artich Wright, Terrence Woodard, Derrick Clay, Rodney Sherman, Al Lucus, Paris Hollingshed,
Tian White, andRobert Saxby are some of the few who make up the 1993 Raider football team.

When some students heard
of this they said, no way.
But some Raiders took the
challenge and came home

ership of Coach Steve Ed-
wards.

offensive power this season.

93 City Champions

Above, Coach Steve Edwards, is already gearing
up for the 94 season. He plans on being the first
coach ever at Northeast to win the State Cham-
pionship title.

Junior Varsity Football

The Northeast Junior Varsity Football Team had
a good season. In the words of Coach Daniely, it
was Close but not close enough,. Scores following:
Southwest 0-12, Warner Robins 6-9, Central 14-

14, Northside 0-6, Southeast 0-12, and Baldwin
14-24. Overall 0 and 6.

CROSS COUNTRY

Its another success story of those
Raiderettes. This year they were sim-
ply unstoppable, with their two lead-
ing ladies, Mandi Brooks and Tan-
isha McDade. This year the

Raiderettes won the City Championship
and Region. The guys put forth a lot of
effort and showed true Raider spirit.
Were proud of them all.

Timiko Gray sits and patientity awaits the race to start.

Coach Copeland talks his team to victory.

Watch them as they go, way to go Raiders!

ITS ALL ABOUT TEAMWORK

Throughout our lives weve been tripped up many, many times. Our bruises and tears
have been far too many to count. But even though our pain was great, were thankful
for its hurt.

So, what does it take to make a Raider? Hard work, indulgence, zeal, stradegy,
strength, and encouraging leadership. All these things are needed for a team to be
successful. The Raiders have proven that they prosess all these qualities plus another
of even greater importance. This one being teamwork. The 1993-94 Raiders believe
in a strong brotherhood and this is what makes them the mighty Raiders they are.

Wrestling in the 1993 1994 season
turned out to have a lot of new comers

another exciting season were of course

Haley.

Senior Joe Watsins chin before putting on his
head gear.

Senior, Jermaine Person, crosses faces with huis

Senior, Ken Neal, dominates his opponent
throughout the match.

Raiderettes
Bat up and
Swing

The Northeast softball team really put forth a lot of effort. It is
often we say that a season record dosen't reflect the hardwork
of a team. This is definitely a case where that is true. This year
the team was coached by Mrs. Judy Whitaker, who taught them
the art of softball and also the sportmanship that comes along
with it.

Above The Raiderettes smile as they watch their team play.
Below I do believe she is out!

Jalisha Barron express her skills on the field. Daphne Zellner throws a few before the big game. Their symbol of sweat.

DEEP IN LOVE

On a typical day, one canvassing Northeasts campus will surely spot a vast
array of couples engaged in various activities: holding hands, dressed alike or
just tripping out. However, veterans here at NE know that a few couples are
in a little deeper than others.

Among these are Seniors, April Bryant and Shederic Mims, who have been
together for a whopping 4 years. When asked what has made their re-
lationship last as long as it has, April replies, Trust, respect, and honesty.
The two met at a dance, citing the others appearance and personality as what
attracted them to one another. April and Shederic enjoy going to the movies,
out to eat and to the park. The two both encourage the other to come to
school every day and to study hard so that they can graduate.

April and Shederic. How about a little more smile, Shed?

Nicole Terry and Deundra Cornelius are another popular couple in Raider
country. Nicole and Dra, as he is affectionately called, celebrated their second
year on October 19th. For this special occasion Nicole was serenaded with the
popular hit, Anniversary by Tony Toni Tone. Nicole and Dra enjoy dinner
dates and going to the movies along with just cooling over each others house.
When asked what attracted them to each other, deciding factors included
Nicoles beautiful smile, complete with dimples for Dra, and Dras cuteness and
sexy eyelashes for Nicole. Nicole says she thinks it is important to motivate Dra
to come to school every day but claims she doesnt need the extra push (sure
Nicole). She added that there isnt a stronger or more domineering person in
the relationship and hopes that it lasts forever.

Nicole and Dra display their photogenic qualities
well.

TOGETHER
FOREVER

The last of these couples who love to spend time together are Marlon Chester and
Jalisha Barron. These two have been together for a full year. Marlon says there
wasnt one thing that could change the way he feels about Jalisha. It was her as a
whole that kindled that flame of love in his heart. Her attraction to him was a little
different. For her it was his sense of humor, his sweet personality, and he just had
this look about him that made her draw closer to him. Their relationship has last
due to the understanding and love they share. They are always there for each
other to do their best that they can do for each other. Marlon and Jalisha say they
want to spend the rest of their lives together and if problems happen to arise, they

will work them out together.

alisha and Marlon, dont they look happy together.

Shall I compare thee to a summers day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of
May,

And summers lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines.
And often is his gold complexion dimmd;
And every fair from fair sometimes declines,
By chance or natures changing course un-
trimmd.

But thy eternal summer shall not fade

Nor lose possession of that fair thou owst;
Nor shall Death brag thou wandrest on his
shade,

When in eternal lines to time thou growst.
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.

Truly Something Special November 5, 1993 was a night to remember for the
homecoming court of Northeast High School as they walked down the 50 yard line
beneath a JROTC saber arch with their hearts pounding and racing. They waited
to hear who was going to become the winners of the 1993-1994 homecoming
court. The introduction serenade from the Northeast High School Marching
Band played. Time was boiling down. Then.... Mr Northeast Richard Ruth-

Junior Mandi Brooks; Miss Sophomore Tiffany Billue and Miss Freshmen Niya

Hicks. It was sadness and happiness as the 1993-1994 Homecoming Court of

Mrs. Bell

On November 8th the sound of the bell was a differnt tune as the
students welcomed a new member of the Northeast administration.
She came to us as Mrs. Bell, unknown to many of us, but at the same
time she has been constantly improving our surrounding and defin-
itly making a mark that calls for a sound of a different bell that rings
with truimph.

Mrs. Bell was the first Black woman to graduate from Mt. DeSales
Acdemy and has spent numerous years in college. She believes that
education is the key to success, and she has alot of ideas that will help
improve our school. During the time she has been here she has had
new lights put around our school so after games it won't be so dark
and many other projects that will affect our school in years to come.

Northeast Teaches More

Lo Saal

What is the name of the program at
Georgia College you are in that allows
you to be a teacher?

Do you have a particular class (period)
you enjoy?

What influence have the students of
Northeast had on you? Would you say it
was positive or negative? Explain?

What lesson have the students of
Northeast taught you

After teaching at Northeast do you
think you want to continue being a
teacher?

What preconceptions did you have
about Northeast? Would you say they
prove to be true?

Its the MAT program. Its a Master
Program which will be completed in
one year. The full name is Master of
Arts in Teaching.

So far, I think I like the ounger stu-
dents. Its a greater challenge to get
them interested in English. (1st period-
9th grade)

Mostly positive. I see so many students
try and so many students care about
themselves and others. The only thing
that is the slightest negative to me is the
apathy of students. It breaks my heart
to see students voluntarily throw their
lives away.

Kids are kids no matter where they
come from, what color they are, or
what kind of life they lead. If you open
your heart and your mind, the student-
swill learn and trust.

I had never heard anything positive
about N.E. I knew that the majority of
the student body was black, and that
was intimidating. Now, I wonder how I
could have ever felt that wayl! My
preconcieved ideas were dead wrong
and Im so happy I had the opportunity
to learn that!

Katheryn Thomas

t

L-R Richard Jordan and Tammy Cambell

The name of the program is Masters of
Art in teaching (MAT)

The particular class period I enjoy is
third. The tenth graders are inguisitive
and enjoy learning.

Most of my contrast with student has
been with my mentor teachers I am
impressed with how well behavior the
students have been. Students in the hall
way have been courteous too.

Yes, Being at Northeast has not inter-
feres with my aspariations to become
challengative of wild teaching is.

I attended Northeast in the past and
came here with an opened mind. I was
curious, however about the changes in
teaches and the black/white ratio.

The field training? or own the job
training/observations has certainley
convinced me that this innovatious ap-
proach to training teachers is a good
one. It causes one to evaluate him-
self/herself regarding whether teach-
ing is an appropricate career choice. A
good teacher should care about all stu-
dents.

Mrs. Milton

Positive: They have given me a more
realistic impression of the educational
system, young adult mentality and be-
havior.

Yes

Masters of Art in Teaching. It is a field

graduates to obtain their certification
and masters degree.

I enjoy all of the classes, but my favorite
would have to be 2nd period Civics.

The students have had a positive in-
fluence on me and my teaching meth-
ods. Many are very difficult to each but
once the connection are made the ef-
fort is forgotten.

Yes!

I guess I thought it would be very dis-
orderly and the students would be dis-
interested. I was pleased that my pre-
conception was incorrect.

There hasnt been one particular ex-
perience that I can tell you. I think it is
a collection of observations and discus-
sions with students and teachers. Being
kind but stern is a lesson that I will take
with me as I continue the program and
begin teaching.

Positive: I appreciae their diversity.
They have different interess and pri-
orities. All teenagers are not the same.

Yes.

Im not from Macon, so I had few pre-
conceived ideas.

Practical experience, getting to know a
variety of students, day-to-day sched-
ules of teachers, and observing various
teachers.

Sherill McLead

Mrs. Massey

A Master in Education is the degree I
am seeking. This is the pilot program
for this degree in secondary education
at GA. College. This hands, on ap-
proach is very effective.

The students in both Honors Chemistry
classes are curious and intelligent. They
are a pleasure to work with.

The students I have dealt with con-
firmed my faith in the leaders of to-
morrow. With the proper guidance
many of the students at Northeast will
lead successful and fullfilling lives.

Definitely yes. I would welcome a job
from Northeast. I love the Macon area.

I had heard some bad things but they all
proved to be exaggerations. Students
are pretty much the same everywhere.

I feel that teachers learn a lot form
their students. If a teacher is intune
with their class the pupil will actually
gudie the teacher. Often times we as
teachers dont listen and the students in
turn are frustrated. Honet effective
communication is a must!

In September the Bosnia parliament refected an international peace plan

would have ended the 18-month-old war that has partitioned the country

Nations has sent a peace-keeping force to the former Yugoslavia to help
keep peace among the three waring factions.

DIGGING DEEP

Precious King comes prepared with her Bible to follow along.

During Black History Month, Northeast students went toa
few seminars. These seminors help them to dig deeper for
their roots. Vistors from churches and musemes came to
speak not about black achievement but their history. Mr.
Robert Toni showed us that different aspects within the
Bible indicated that black people were present, unlike the
protrayals we receive in movies depicitions of Bible
events.

Mrs. Collins and Mr. Espy introduced us to the religion of

Steppin out the
Deep

As you turn the last page of your In kNEe Deep experience,
you must also start stepping out of the water. The year has
been full of fun, frolic and learning but this is the end. There
comes a time when we must look around us and see that the
time has come to move on to the next level, out of the deep.
Different people take different levels but we are all playing
the same game. Never forget the friends youve made or the
fun you've had because every ending has a new beginning.
The fun never stops and the friendships keep coming. Just
remember to be In KNEe Deep in 1993-1994 was the way to
be and that time will be with you always.

Congratulations to the graduation class of 1994.
