SPIRIT of 93
Southwest High School
Macon, Georgia
Volume Xxill
What is the first thing
you do when you try to
put a puzzle together, or
attempt anything new
and different? Take a
good look at the pieces
and read the directions!
sometimes you just have
to find someone to help
you get the job done.
This is what the staff of
spirit of 93 decided
Southwest High School
was all about. From the
time you enter the
school as a Freshman
until you leave as a
graduating Senior, your
education is one big
puzzle.

Lab
What exactly are
the pieces of this
puzzle we Call
Southwest? Some of
them are obvious.
We looked at the
administrators, the
faculty, the students.
Those are the easy
pieces. But what
about all the other
things and people
who are around
every day to help us
with this puzzle?
Many of them are
behind the
scenes, such as the
custodians and
lunchroom workers,
Campus Police and
maintenance
workers. They may
not have as visible a
role as teachers and
students, but they
are necessary parts
of a puzzle all the
same.
We also believe
that emotions are
part of our
puzzle. The pride we
feel as our band
marches onto the
field, or our athletes
enter the fields of
competion, or our
Academic and Math
teams win a meet, or
our Mock Trial team
places in statewide
competion is a vital
part of the feeling we
call Southwest Spirit.
There are those who
say that Southwest
just does not have
the Spirit anymore.
But as your Spirit of
93 Staff worked to
get the pictures and
Stories for this
yearbook, we
discovered that the
pride still exists, the
Spirit is still there and
we at Southwest are
constantly PUTTING
IT ALL TOGETHER |

STUDENT LIFE
Something Everyday!
At Southwest there's always something
going on. Beginning in September with
the ordering of Caps and Gowns for Seni-
ors and signing up for Drug Education
classes, students moved into the '92-'93
school year. Senior spirit became obvious
with breakfasts and new jerseys! Other
programs soon followed. Some students
worked in a little studytime as the first
grading period approached all too quick-
ly.

Night of Dreams
In spite of the rainy weather,
on October 17, Demestric
Jones was crowned Home-
coming Queen with Paige
Pipkin as the runner up and
Todd Walker was named Mr.
Southwest with Brent Joyner
as the runner up. Our SW foot-
ball team became victorous
over Butler County with a
score of 19-0.

MORP
Get down! Turn around! If it's casual fun
and dancing you enjoy, then the MORP is
just for you. MORP, or PROM spelled
backwards, is the students opportunity
to be sloppy, dress funky and have a
good time. This is one time the students
of Southwest don't have to worry about
the dress code. This event is sponsored
annually by Student Council which is
headed by Betty Stewart-Crossan and
has proved to be a lot of fun for everyone
involved

This Magic
Moment
It was an evening of hearts, lace and
beautiful girls as the Southwest Pep Club
sponsored the annual Sweetheart Cor-
onation. Every year a lucky sweetheart is
chosen from each class and also one to
be the overall Miss Southwest Sweet-
heart. This year the Miss Southwest
Sweetheart was given to Miss Simona
Shannon. Paige Lindsey was Freshman
Sweetheart, Keisha Lee was chosen
from the Sophomore class. Tawanda
Talton won the Junior Sweetheart, and
Paige Pipkin took the Senior Sweetheart
honors. There was also an award given to
the three young ladies who raised the
most money for the evening. First place
was awarded to Keisha Lee , second to
Tamika Pearson and third place to
Stephanie Baldwin. Congratulations to
all of the Sweethearts!

Ghosties and Goblins and WHAT?!
Witch teacher would be the Wacky -
Witch was the question as the Spirit of Tear Ly
'93's fundraising event became a heated
race between Mrs. Gwen Bell and Ms.
Bitsy Phillips. Most of the faculty agreed
to participate in the Wacky Witch contest,
but in the early days it became obvious
that the show down would be between
two of the SW favorites.
The students watched the tote board
each day during lunch as the money was
increased. Finally, the announcement
came. Ms. Bitsy Phillips was the Wacky
Witch. On Friday she joined the Key
Clubs Goofy Goblins in a haunting of
the campus. The Goblins were also in-
volved in a fundraiser to benefit The Chil-
dren's Hospital. Spirit of '93 appreciates
the great effort and Spirit shown by all
in this fun raising event.
CLOCKWISE:Ms. Stokes takes the votes. Marilyn
Payne. Renee Woodall & Kristy Ciccimarro make 93. Fab
ulous Fifties. Goofy Goblins prepare to haunt. Convict

lips haunting Juan Lopez. The WITCH!!!
Mock Election
The candidates met at SW
for a final showdown. Hal
Clinton, David Bush, and
Reece Perot made prom-
ises to an enthusiastic crowd.
Adding to the rally were per-
formances by the chorus and
the cheerleaders who cheered
for their favorite candidates.
Clinton definitely had the vol-
ume of support as students
proved that they were Amer-
ican Patriots.

SPORTS
Patriots Never
say Die
It may have been a slow beginning,
but true Patriots never give up. After
losing their first two games, the Pa-
triots prepared for battle against a
tough Northeast team. The Raiders lost
14-0 in a fiery overtime. This win
launched our team on a wave of vic-
tories, defeating such teams as Bal-
dwin County, Butler, and Southeast. It
goes without saying our red, white, and
blue Patriots are not very well known
for their ability to give up.
The Homecoming game against But-
ler sent a strong message to the region
competitors. The Southwest Patriots
ran over the Butler Bulldogs telling
themselves, their fans, and most im-
portantly, the other teams in our region
that the Patriots were back and had
the playoffs in mind.
Sadly, the playoffs were not to be
this year. The Evans Knights defeated
the Patriots 21-14 after the Patriots re-
ceived points for only two of the five
touchdowns scored. The team may
have missed out on the playoffs, but
they were still big winners at home and
in the hearts of true Patriot fans.
Thanks, Coach Hatcher and the
Coaching Staff for a good season!

On The Job
Training
This year's B-team football squad
had a good season for learning as
they prepared themselves for next
year's varsity experiences. The
team's overall record was 1-2-1 as
they gathered many necessary
Skills. The coaching staff consisted
of Haywood Simmons and Iris Hill
The coaches led the team through
a 14-8 victory over Northside. The
guys suffered a close defeat of 14-
12 at the hands of Houston County.
The team also had a tie game with
cross town rivalry, Central, leaving
them with anticipation for next year.
Good luck in the future.

Young and
Promising
The future looks very promising
for the young members of the
Southwest 9th grade football team.
The squad had a final record of 1-2-1
with a blowout victory over North-
east by a score of 35-0. The team
members also experienced a dis-
appointing loss at the hands of
Southeast with a heartbreaking
score of 14-13. The team showed a
noticable amount of improvement
from the beginning day of practice
to the conclusion of the season.
Coach Matthews assured us of a
promising future for the young men.

Determined
Spirit
The Southwest 1992-93 softball
team had a disappointing season as
their true talents were never displayed
by the final scores. The girls gave a
tremendous effort throughout the year
as they faced a rugged schedule. The
team had some difficult losses at the
hands of Northside and Southeast. The
girls never lost their Patriot spirit and
improved greatly through the season.
The team was led by only a few seniors
consisting of Angie Lovsey,
Shantelle Oliver, Laurie Smith, Tif-
fany Smith and Asa Grant. The girls
got on track early in the season by
defeating Northeast by a score of 12-5
and once more during the season. Ms.
Trible and Mrs. Graham-Minton
should be congratulated for their con-
stant efforts in working with the girls.
The coaches look forward to next year
with many returning stars surely to
shine.
Southwest Dominates
City- Tournament
Blowing Central away with a 54-18
win, Southwest expressed their train-
ing received by Coach Richard Plagge
in a successful match ending with a
nine and one loss for Southwest. North-
east tried to pose a problem for the
Patriots by leaving the match up to the
last three opponents which brought
Southwest out of the fire for 38-33 win.
Facing Southeast with an exhausted
team, Southwest showed their dom-
inating ability again by a 51-21 win. The
team spirit kept Southwest alive as the
other schools dropped like flies at the
Patriots feet. Ambition is the essence
of winning as proved by the Southwest
fight for the city championship.

TENNIS
The 1992-1993 tennis team is anx-
iously awaiting for this years sea-
son to get underway. Coach Iris
Hill says she expects great things to
come from these young players in
the future. Coach Hill believes that
although the boys and the girls team
are very young they both have
promising futures ahead of them in
the sport of tennis. This years team
expects to improve even further on
the record of last year. We wish
Coach Hill and the team the best of

Best of the Best
Once again the Southwest Boys
Basketball Team has proven them-
selves to be the best of the best. The
team has completed their regular sea-
son with a great record of 18 wins and
5 loses. Some of the local teams who
suffered the Patriots wrath were:
Southeast, Warner Robins, Central.
North Side, and Baldwin. The team
anxiously awaits the regional tourna-
ment. Coach Barden has done a fine
job with these young men.

Raiders of Notheast. The girls have a
record of 14 wins and 10 losses. Their
sub-region record is 10 wins and 6

proud tradition of supporting that well
known Patriot pride. The squads were
directed by Shiela Bell and Kristen
Brewer as they participated in many
spirited activities. The team co-
captains were Andrea Anderson and
Valerie Curtis. Our cheerleaders pre-
sented an outstanding banquet in hon-
or of our Senior football players before
our homecoming game. Thanks alot for
all of your spirit girls, we really ap-
preciate everything.

COME TO SOUTHWEST
Lets Play Ball
The 1992-1993 Southwest Baseball
season promises to be one of the best
years yet. The team members are very
excited about a shot at the region title
The only thing capable of stopping
them seems to be the always tough
Warner Robins Demons. Coaches and
players alike seem to believe it will
come down to the Patriots and the
Demons for the title. Coach Mathews
and Coach Hatcher are doing a fine job
of getting these young men ready for
the upcoming weeks. Good luck to the
Patriots!

Making A Joyful Noise
Noel! Noel! Sing Noel! The sounds of Christmas filled Mercer
Universitys Newton Hall as the Southwest choral groups gave a
grand performance. The director of the Southwest choir is
Jeanne Hoskyn. There are three of these melodious groups
Opus One, the advanced, mixed choir; Kyrie , the girls chorus;
and the Newest Edition, or beginning choir. With over a hun-
dred voices blending together, these Southwest songbirds
made a beautiful noise for the people at the John Wesley
Villas and St. Andew's neighborhood as they went Christmas
caroling. The choirs also compete at the annual Music Festival.

lf theres a special event around town, one group who is
almost always present is theSouthwest Jazz Ensemble. This
band plays for Cherry Blossom Pageants, Golden Eagle Cer-

events. Directed by Oscar Jackson, the ensemble rarely turns
down a gig. In addition to these performances, the band plays
for many of the county's elementary schools each spring. And, if
the audience is lucky, Mr. Jackson accompanies the group in
some of their numbers.

NOBODY DOES IT BETTER
BETA Club Convention comes each January and each year
Sw's club brings home honors and awards. 1993 was no ex-
ception. In Group Talent, a medley of Religious music was
performed by lead singers Kim Gilbert, Bartyce Colbert, and
Erica Collingsworth who were backed by many others. They
took a First place with their beautiful music. The Scrapbook was
planned and kept all year by Jennifer Adams and Jennifer
Greek. It, too took a First Place. Jay Jump and LaShonda
James, also took a First with their incredibly artistic Banner.
Ginger Wilder placed third in the Oratorical Contest and the
Quiz Bowl Team placed fourth. These hardworking honor stu-
dents serve SW and the community by sending tons of letters to
lonely soldiers through the Military Mail Call. This has been an
important BETA project for many years. The members prepare

SPANISH CLUB
LATIN CLUB
The Spanish Club, advised by Diane Goodson, offered peer
tutoring for the students. The club planned to adopt an elementary
school class and to visit nursing homes during the year. The main
emphasis of this group is to create an interest in SPanish culture.
Latin Club exists solely for student enjoyment. The club, directed
by Robert Fightmaster meets monthly for dinner and a movie. El
Sombrero seems to be the group's favorite place, but they have
been known to go to Pizza Hut or Village Pizza. It's a purely for
fun group.
COMPUTER CLUB
SCIENCE CLUB
ACADEMIC TEAM
Milton Iverys Computer Club stays busy
making signs for every campus occasion. They
decorate the doors of each classroom during
American Education Week. Another important
service of the club is to keep the cumulative
record of all the basketball statistics.
If there is a young Einstein around , you can
bet he/she is in the Science Club. Richard
Merchant and the club have organized many
recycling projects, working continuously to im-
prove the environment and save our natural
resources. The club also takes part in the Sci-
ence Fairs.
Advised by Jim Barfield, the Academic
Team represented SW in statewide compe-
tiotions, traveling from Brookwood to Fort Val-
ley to Georgia Tech. They have appeared on
WMAZ's Teen Challenge, and a variety of other
competitions . This group represents us well as
a symbol of academic excellence.

Y-Club
Peer Counselors
Have you ever wished you had a fairy god-
mother? The Y-Club filled that role for a special
family in Macon. The members of the Y-Club pur-
chased a Nintendo and several cartridges for a
family on the Make-A-Wish List. They were also
able to buy groceries for a Thanksgiving dinner for
a family in need.
The Y-Club, advised by Ida Jordan, also pro-
vided snacks for teachers during American Ed-
ucation Week, sodas for the Marching Band and
gave out Halloween candy to the Children's Ward
of the Medical Center.
In addition to these community projects, the Y-
Club helped decorate the school Christmas tree.
This group is very active in keeping the school
campus Clean for visitors and for the students of
Southwest.
The Y-Club participates in activities on the
school campus but also aids in public services.
The conscientious group has served the elderly by
L
tH
giving old magazines to the residents at local
nursing homes.
You may never know this
group exists unless you
need help. Advised by Gail
Langley, the Peer Counsel-
ors help incoming Fresh-
man make a Smooth Move
from middle school to high
school. They are also avail-
able to discuss problems
with troubled students who
need a sympathetic ear."
This hand-picked group
of young people go to the
middle school in the Spring
to discuss high school life
with upcoming freshmen.
They show the new stu-
dents around Southwest
and also tutor the middle
school students after
school.
Pep Club
FCA
The guardian of school spirit
at Southwest is the Pep Club,
advised by Mrs. Geraldine
Dumas
Encouraging pride and ex-
celling in the educational en-
vironment, the Pep Club an-
nually sponsors the Central
funeral, the Sweetheart Coro-
nation, Fun Day at Six Flags,
bus trips for students to key
football and basketball games,
and the All Sports Cookout,
honoring atheletes and retiring
coaches The club also
helps finance holiday tourna-
ments for the basketball team
A new group on campus,
The Fellowship of Christian
Atheletes was organized by
Coach John Mathews to pro-
mote friendship among stu-
dents. Some of the things the
club has done was to take
Christmas gifts to the Chil-
drens Hospital at the Medical
Center. President Charles
Halliganbelieves the club has
had a positive impact on stu-
dents and atheletes at SW
Cosmetology Club
Future Farmers of America
The Cosmetology Club
got into the Christmas spirit
this year by sponsoring a
family for the holidays. They
generously bought
presents for an eight year
old boy and a three month
old boy. The Cosmetology
Club also collected decora-
tions for a family that could
not afford a Christmas tree.
All year they collected
canned goods for Project
HOPE (Helping Other Peo-
ple Eat). The members also
dedicated their time by col-
lecting clothing for the Bat-
tered Women and Chil-
dren's Unit of the Macon
Rescue Mission.
As part of their activities
this year the Future Farm-
ers of America (FFA) have
planned to beautify the
Southwest campus. Led by
their advisor, Eric Thomp-
son , the club planted new
flowers and trees. Club
members also took their
hogs and other animals to
the Georgia State Fair in
October. They competed in
several categories, bringing
home several prizes.
TAP
Future Homemakers of America
TAP, under the guidance of their ad-
visor, Carline Leonard, joined with
many of the other clubs collecting
canned goods for needy families. TAP
participated in the Putnam County Re-
lief project and many members served
as ushers for local sorority AKA's fash-
ion Show. One of the main goals of this
group is building young women's char-
acter.
The FHA | club has kept
its calendar full this year
with fund raisers, faculty fa-
vors and valentines and
fruit baskets for the nursing
homes. They don't stop
there, though. The FHA
made a contribution of mon-
ey and canned goods for
the Putnam County Relief
Fund. The club is advised
by Janie Wach.
FHA Il has had a busy year.
They brought sunshine into
the lives of many families as
they prepared special goody
boxes for Christmas. They
added toys for Kids Yule
Love and munchies for SW
Faculty on Teacher Appreci-
ation Day. Their advisor, Ve-
ronica Calhoun , works hard
getting the group ready for
the annual State Convention
and Style Show.
Drama, the art of acting has returned
to Southwest. The Southwest Drama
Club was re-established by Dennis
Swearingen, who believes that the
study of drama is very important in
developing social character and self
esteem.
The members of the Drama Club
learn the importance of voice, speech,
movement and dramatic technique.
The goal for the drama club is to per-
form a contemporary piece in the late
spring.
The SW Art Club ad-
vised by Dannah
Minton and Greg Cubit
provides an invaluble
service to the elderly in
our community. For
Christmas, Valentines,
and Easter the Art Club
visits the Harrison Nurs-
ing Home, bringing
treats and companion-
ship. On March 18th the
Womanless Beauty Con-
test was held to raise
funds for the 10th annual
Art and Photography
show in May. Not only
does the Art club commit
itself to the betterment of
our community, but also
offers students not in-
volved in art an oppor-
tunity to show off their
talent.

Patri Article
The Business Leaders of tomorrow work hard today. The
FBLA, advised by Alma Redding and Ann Foster, participated
in many activities ranging from FBLA week to the Fall Lead-
ership Conference. The club members also sponsored a fund-
raiser for the Putnam County Relief Effort after tornadoes dev-
astated that area. FBLA participated in the Region V Conference
in Jones County at the Jones County High School, returning to
Southwest with many awards. Among those who placed in these
competitions were Chris Parkerson first place in Computer
Applications, Tiffany Morris second place in public speaking,
Lakeitha Gilbert third place in Word Processing, Shannon
Fossett third place in Miss CBE, and Natasha Pope fifth place
in Impromptu Speaking.
During the course of
this school year, the Patri
-Article, has produced
four issues of the school
newspaper. They spon-
sored a potato chip sale
and are presently a
member of the GAPA.
With Tangela King and
LaShonda James as
the co-editors, the Patri-
Article has had a very
successful year under
the supervision of Mrs.
Kalbfleisch.
VICA appropriately stands
for Vocational Industrial Clubs
of America. Each of these stu-
dents excel in vocational tech-
nology. Under the guidance of
Ronald Taylor, this group de-
velops their leadership skills
through different activities &
social events. In return, they
teach other students to devel-
op responsible experiences.
Vica members are very hard
workers and have earned the
respect of their peers.
This year the VOCA Club
attended the Officer Training
Conference and also the Re-
gional Contest. Mr. Maston
Bell serves as sponsor of this
club. Voca members went to
Atlanta to the state capital, the
CNN Building, Underground
Atlanta and to Six Flags. The
VOCA club has had a Christ-
mas party at Shakey's and
sold chips as a fundraiser.
They were welcomed at the
State Convention on St. Si-
mon's Island. As always, these
Students vocational training
paid off in competition and in
preparation for the future.
The Leo Club, directed by
Sue Kalbfleisch ,held parties
at the Georgia Academy for
the Blind during the holidays.
They served as volunteers at
the Lions Club pancake
breakfast, collected used eye
glasses and hearing aids for
those who cannot afford them,
and held a mop and broom
sale to raise money. For all
their hard work they received
the Lions Club Service Award.
Did you know that alcohol is
the single largest killer of
young people, that 90% of
high school students have
tried alcohol and that 5% of
high school seniors describe
themselves as daily drinkers?
Or that 8 million teens use al-
cohol every week and 4.5 mil-
lion teenagers have a serious
drinking problem? If these
facts scare you its no wonder.
Alcohol is scary stuff, a down-
er which actually depresses
the nervous system, causes
slow reactions, and some-
times even unconsciousness.
If you are driving while drink-
ing, you are a lethal weapon.
These are some of the things
that SADD wants you to be
aware of. The club works hard
to get this message out, es-
pecially during the holidays
and Prom night. The club is
advised by Elizabeth
Carenen and hopes to make a
real difference at SW.
Mu Alpha Theta
Student Council
Mu Alpha Theta, the
respected Math honors
society, is directed by
Alice Dickey and Gwen
Simmons. They collect-
ed canned goods for
needy families, provided
gifts to the children at
the Medical Center. The
group donated funds for
nursing home residents,
and provided goodies at
Valentines Day for teach-
ers. Club members pro-
vided refreshments for
teachers and staff during
American Education
Week and recognized
Math teachers at Christ-
mas.
Student Council is one
of the most active
groups at Southwest.
These dedicated stu-
dents were busy year
round. During the school
year they helped pro-
mote school spirit by
making signs for the
football games and ar-
ranging assemblies.
With the help of their
advisor Betty Stewart-
Crossan, Student Coun-
cil sponsored events
such as the MORP, the

Champions at the 1992 National Convention in Washington, D.C. Since winning, these students have performed at the
Systemwide Convocation for Bibb County Public Schools, the Macon Board of Realtors August Luncheon Meeting, And
several churches. They were also recognized at the July meeting of the school board, featured in The Macon Telegraph,
The Macon Courier , and spotlighted on a one-half hour television show with George Foster of Channel 64.
Kim, James and Kevin are inspirations to us all. They taught us to never give up when the odds are against you and to
keep reaching for your dreams. These students set high goals and worked hard to achieve them. A sincere appreciation
and love are bestowed upon them.

EDITORSNOTE
It was 9:00 P.M. on February 24. We sat at our computers,
typing furiously. Ms. Phlip" stood behind them with a whip. On
Mandy! On Cande! Get through with it all!' We're all getting
punchy by now. The deadline was Friday. There was still LOTS
to do. It seemed as if everything that COULD go wrong DID go
wrong. We had a disk drive go out and never come back. We
had to retake the retake pictures. It was unbelievable! And all of
this was after we pulled off the Miracle of Miracle Sales on
December 11. In spite of many strange events, we had a great
time putting it all together for you. Thanks, Patriots, for your
terrific support!
High School A Greasure Chest Of
Memories
High School- the place where friendships are made, dreams are born, and our paths are chosen.
High School- the turning point in our fives the place where we feam so much more than
reading, writing, and arithmetic. We leam about life.
In our Freshman year, we all (ean on each other, desperate to keep old friendships strong as
swarms of Upperclassmen brush by us in the halls. We cling to each other for security and
comfort. A year passes and we become confident Sophomores. No longer the new faces in the
crowd, we are ready to take on the world, to branch off in new directions and find our own
identities. We allow the new friendships to blossom and some of the old to slip away. Suddenly,
we are Juniors, trying to make premature decisions about our futures. The insecurity we felt as
Freshmen resurfaces as we face choices about our freedom, sexuality, and our responsibilities.
Then all too quickly, like a lightning bolt, we are Seniors and our High School days are almost
over! Only then do we begin to reflect on the years and wonder where the time has gone.
Finally, bonded together as a class we filter through the memories, savoring the laughter, the
tears, and the secrets shared.
As a Senior, I know I have been affected by my friendships those kept and those lost
and by my choices those positive and those not so positive. This awareness fills me with
both happiness and sadness. Happiness comes from my sense of accomplishments, mastering the
reading, writing and the arithmatic, and from my new found independence.
Sadness comes from the sense of loss of the friends that are no longer with us and from the
reality that we as a class will never be this close again. Not only have we as classmates helped
one another, but our teachers, counselors, and administrators fave started ours fires, pushed us to
our potential, and shown us the importance of our dreams. Our parents, who have stood in the
shadows ready to catch us should we fall, have also guided us through the many stages
throughout our lives.
It seems like just yesterday that we were nervous little Freshmen and now we are Seniors
preparing to graduate and eave behind our childhood, and protection from the real world. As
classmates and friends we have shared first boyfriends and girlfriends, first cars, and first
ventures.
As we finish our year the long walk to those big red doors that will close behind us one
last time without the choruses of see you next year but instead with take care and I'll miss
you, we realize that High School is the best time of our fives and all the memories, good and
bad, are memories worth treasuring.

It was just a short time ago that we
began our Senior year. We worked so
hard and waited what seemed forever to
finally be seniors. Now, we are about to
take that walk. We'll rush out the Inter-
state to the Coliseum. We'll hope we have
everything cap, gown, stole. We'll
line up the way we practiced that morn-
ing. We'll figit and talk nervously as we
wait for Our Moment. Then we'll hear the
music begin. Our supervisors check our
Caps one more time. The lines begin to
move toward the entrance. The Junior
Guides are there to tell us our row. We sit
down. Ame and Andy make their address-
es to the Class of '93. The list of names
begin. We each take our turn as we cross
the stage and receive our diplomas. As
the music begins once more, we stand
together. Some of us wipe our eyes as the
reality of the moment sets in. This is the
last time we will all be together. This is the
moment the Class of '93 realizes that they
have finally.... Put It All Together.
cm
,
ITS ALL TOGETHER!
This has been a strange year for the Spirit of '93. We had a new advisor, mostly new
staff and a huge problem with our finances. As seems to be the case all over America,
yearbook sales are down. We realized that if we were going to continue to produce a book
at Southwest, we would have to make some drastic changes. We did this. As in any
transistion year, some things have to be changed. We have tried to include as many faces
and activities as possible within the range of our deadlines. It has not been easy and there
will be some things which had to be omitted, such as Prom and Graduation, in order to get
the book back in May. If we didn't give a group the many pages of coverage as it had in
previous years, or if we left it out, PLEASE know this was not an intentional slight. We did
the best we could within the time and budget limits.
We've tried very hard to make this EVERY Patriot's book. We tried to include as many
different people as we could. Naturally, some faces appear more often than others.
Involvement in school activities accounts for that. We tried not to keep staff members or
students from classes for Yearbook business or pictures unless there was just no other
way to get the job done. We appreciate all the patience and cooperation from the
teachers, staff, and administrators, especially Social Studies, on the days we shot mug
shots again and again!! We appreciate Mrs. Smith's help as we rearranged the lunch-
room twice for Senior Pictures.(and will again, we hope.) To so many who went above and
beyond the call of duty, we say THANKS.
