students, faculty, and administration started thinking about their new, soon-
to-be-built air-conditioned school. The move will affect everyone, with the alum-
nae wistfully recalling fond memories, teachers being forced to throw away old
files and to pack up hundreds of books, and students eager to find new and cooler
surroundings. Yes we are wrapping it up in different ways, but toward the same

rap to the beat that only they can hear while others try to catch up on last
nights homework. In another corner, some cheerleaders practice the latest
cheers while several athletes review their performance and try to find ways to
improve. Besides these few groups, there are students that stand out just because
of their own originality.

The students here are allowed to express themselves freely through their clothing,
hairstyles, friends, and even the classes they choose. Hopefully, this freedom ot
expression will never be taken for granted. For not only are we given this freedom,
but many of the faculty actually encourage the students to develop their own
individual personalities. As well as the diversity of its members, the student body
at JCHS is unequaled among other high schools. In comparison, our special
qualities and talents make us stand out in a crowd, Our dignity and school pride in
such areas as sports, drama, and academics makes us not only a unique school
but also an example to others.

After school, April Turk and Felippe

Time to act mellow, not like a fool

When you're a senior, many dues must be paid
They blow up in your face like a grenade.
While walking on the campus ground
Moving your head to the Greyhound sound
Mr. T., Coach P. and Mr. Smith are all around
Because theyre down with the Greyhound sound.
Am a Cool cat, and that is true
I walk around campus with girls, one or two
I walk around school everyday
And talk to my friends in every way.

Opening 9

As the end of her senior year rap-
idly approaches, Traci Thompson
takes a peak at what her future
holds.

Taking a well deserved break from
a hectic day, Mrs. Sanders and Mr.
Colvard chat in the teachers
lounge.

It's Under Wraps

The Future: There Ss No Holding Us Back!

ave you ever sat back and wondered what the future holds in store for you? All
of us have, but sometimes we are thrown for a loop. The future holds the
bizarre and unexpected, and its all under wraps.

Most seniors wonder what college will accept them. They begin to dream of future
occupations and goals to be reached. They are only just beginning to know the real
world. It is fascinating, but scary at the same time.

Juniors find themselves concerned with planning and preparing the prom and how
their project will be received. They begin to realize that they only have two years of
school left. This leads to thoughts of becoming a senior and what an awesome
experience it will be.

Being accepted by others as something other than a freshman is on the minds of
many sophomores. They wonder what this school year is going to hold and what
good may be found.

Freshmen wonder mostly about what high school life is really like. They realize that
they have made it through eight years of school and are curious if four years more
will be worth it.

We all have dreams and aspirations for the future. All we have left to do is wait for the
future to unwrap and show what's in store.

As students pass through the senior high |
hall, they are given the opportunity to ex-

plore a wide range of colleges and careers

displayed on the counselors bulletin

board.

Ricky Layson and Michael Repzynski are
looking forward to the new high school.

Opening 11

Seniors are known for their Big Man On
Campus attitudes, and Chad Jackson, Jake
Stevenson, Glenn Hamilton, and Jeff Jerni-
gan display their own.

At the FBLA rush party, it looks as though
Bryan Greenway is definitely a hit.

Summer
Reading
Started

During the spring of the 1989-90 school year, it
was decided that the Jones County High School
honor classes would participate in a summer
reading program. The students were to read two
books for each honor class they were taking for
the 1990-91 school term. After reading the re-
quired books, they were given objective tests
which were scheduled periodically throughout
the summer. These test counted 25 percent of
their nine weeks grade in the honor class.

Concentrating intensley on a hard question, junior Traci Skin-
ner works to complete her summer reading exam.

A few years ago, the no
Pass, no play rule was estab-
lished. Ultimately, the rule
states that if a student
doesnt pass five out of six
classes, then he is academi-
cally ineligible for extracurric-
ular activties. This includes
sports as well as clubs and
holding a class office.

It is very important for ath-
letes to make the good
grades. They are not only ath-
eletes, but good students.
When they have established
such a reputation, they are re-
spected by all. They not only
reflect well upon themselves,
but are people the entire
community can be proud of.

FACULTY

DEDICATEES

Ms. Florence Mixon

There are times in our lives when we come
across an individual who stands out above the
rest. In students eyes, few gain their respect,
not only as a teacher but as a friend. This year
we have chosen a teacher who has accom-
plished both. She has a certain zest and happi-
ness about her that touches the lives of all she
meets. She can always be found with a smile on
her face ready to assist her Spanish students.
She is known for supporting her favorite
Hounds team. With her fair looks and bubbly
personality, she opens the door to the lands
and languages. It is with great pride and dignity
that we have chosen Ms. Florence Mixon as a
1991 Growl Dedicatee.

re

Mr. R. E. Eidson

This year our yearbook dedicatee is Mr. R. E. Eid-
son. He is a prime example of someone who is not
only our teacher, but our friend. With his wonder-
ful sense of humor, he makes the tedious envir-
omnent of school more bearable.

He was honored with a trophy by the Lady Grey-
hounds for his outstanding school spirit. You can
always count on him to be at most every game,
sporting his special-made t-shirts and cheering
the teams on to victory.

Thank you, Mr. Eidson, for your dedication to the
teams as well as to our education. We are honored
to have you as our 1991 Growl Dedicatee.

This was Coach Danny Rogers first year as coach of the
JCHS Baseball Team. When asked about his first year,
Coach Rogers responded by saying that there was alot of
pressure due to the fact that he was following the strong
program established by Coach Patterson. Coach Rogers
was faced with keeping his program on solid ground after
the 1989 JCHS Baseball Team won the State Champion-
ship. He said that people expected the same level of play
from the 1990 team that they had with the 1989 team.

When asked about his 1990 team, he said that it may have
lacked team ability but the 1990 team was full of heart.
Even though they were considered the underdogs they kept
up their spirit and tried hard, at home and on the road.

Coach Danny Rogers collects his thoughts as his
team takes its turn at bat.

Rondell White, senior of the 1990 JCHS Baseball
Team, gave all he had to his position in centerfield
and to his overwhelming swing. After graduation,
White was picked 24th overall in the first round
draft, and he signed with the Montreal Expos. After
signing, White received a monetary signing bonus
for being drafted in the first round, and among other
signing bonuses, he received a paid in full college
education.

The 1990 track team accomplished
some outstanding feats during the
spring of the year. The team traveled
in many directions such as Perry, Up-

GA for the State Meet.

Three school records were re-written
in 1990 by these tracksters. The 220
yd. record was toppled by graduate
senior Carla Redding. She also was a
member of the record setting 440 yd.
relay team, that included Dee Dee
Scott, Kim Pitts, and Alicia Tuft. And
to end up her final year of competi-
tion Carla qualified for the State Meet

The other school record that fell was
the shot put. Gwen Broadus added a
couple more inches to the previous
distance.

A typical day at Jones County High

curs for lunch. During this time the stu-

dents here are able to eat, drink, and
otherwise be merry. Unfortunately this
break never seems to last long enough,
and soon its back to the old grindstone.

For many the end of classes does not
mean the end of the day. After school
comes the long practices, club activi-
ties, and for some work. And for every-
one comes the homework and studying
needed to help prepare for the next day
of classes.

The day to day life of students can be
monotonous, and just plain dull. Howev-

It is very seldom that a group of teenagers
is entrusted with the responsibilities of run-
ning a business. It is almost next to never
when they are trusted with a budget of over
$20,000. However, the JCHS Yearbook
Staff deals with this type of work on a daily
basis. The staff is responsible for every as-
pect of creating the yearbook, ranging from
writing copy to drawing original layouts.
They handle all financial affairs and adver-
tisements. Not only do the members of the
staff have to be competent photographers,
they also must be good salesmen. The
yearbook staff runs smoothly under the
leadership of Amy Sires, editor-in-chief and
Mrs. Patricia Morgan, Advisor.

The Spirit Club is here to help boost the over-
all spirit of the school. They sometimes do
special things for the faculty and for many ath-
letes. Being such a large club, spreading the
enthusiasm through out the school is not too
difficult. At special events, you will usually rec-
ognize a member by his effort in boosting en-
thusiasm of others. This club like most other
clubs also holds meetings in which the most
sincere members attend in order to come up
with more spirit boosting activities.

A Real Good Friend left us here alone,

Not knowing why or what went wrong.

We all still remember her in that very special way,
Although theres nothing we can do or say,

To bring her back to us on this very day.

Now that we've lost A Real Good Friend,

Our destroyed hearts will never, ever mend.

We'll never forget that very tragic day,

When our Real Good Friend passed away.

Concentrating on perfection, Mr. Charlie
Harbor and Mathew Song rehearse a flute
performance for Friday night's big qame.

Cliff Bryant and Sherri DeLong share a joke
before Mrs. Perry's health class.

The new high school slowly comes to life,
awaiting our arrival.

Wrapping the keys of Mrs. Musselmans
typewriter is a daily routine for Niki Bray.

Taking a breather from a hot and strenuous
flag corp practice, Marletta Butler and
Brandi Whiddon enjoy a coke and a smile.

208 Closing

It's A Wrap

liaise Of The Past

Many things come and go.

Some come fast, some go slow.

But through it all, one thing lasts

And thats the memories of our past.

We hear laughter ringing in our ears

As we look back to our high school years.

The cheers, the prom, and Valentines dance

Maybe a chance for a little romance.

We can look at things that made us cry

And just how fast our life went by.

We see our standing friendship, true to the end.

Sometimes a broken heart had to mend.

We complained of all the tests to take

And many more mistakes we made.

There was always a fight for the best

Only a few could pass this test.

Now after all thats been said

We must make a step to the future ahead.

But looking back one last time

To say goodbye to the friends of mine.

Saying goodbye was the hardest thing to do

Especially between friends like me and you.

But there is one thing we can always grasp

And look back to the memories of the past.

Bring Back the
Memories!

The 1981 Baseball Team: M. Robinson, J. Glover, K. Haynes, K. Martin, M. Barfield, J. Robinson, D. Gattie,
Coach Patterson, G. Sands, D. Grimes, K. Patterson, T. Miller, and N. Veal.

Ah yes, those were the days! Many recall a
time when girls wore mini-skirts and guys
talked of fast cars and a time when sock-
hops were a popular event and doo-wop
tunes bopped on the radio.

Throughout the years, the halls of Jones
County High School rung with the familiar
sounds of teenagers laughter and voices.
The conversations were of football games
and Friday night bonfires, or perhaps they
discussed Mrs. Stevens American history
test.

The hair styles for girls ranged from bou-
fants to wings and guys ranged from the
slicked back look to afros. The cars that
were driven were classic Mustangs and '57
Chevy's with fins.

The styles have changed over the years, but
the hearts of all teenagers remain the same.

In 1981, this cool dude struts around campus.

Its War!

On Wednesday, January 16, 1991 at about
6:45 p.m. EST, the lives of all students at
JCHS changed dramatically. The United
States declared war on Iraq. For the first time
in our lives, we, as teenagers, faced what it
means to be at war.

On Thursday, January 17, 1991, all television
sets on the campus of Jones County High
School were tuned to special reports giving
updates on the war as information was re-
leased. Students felt waves of mixed emotion
as they watched the events unfold.

Keep your heads down and your eyes open. You
are handling yourselves very well and making everyone
proud. Gabriel Brown, senior

I'd tell them they should be proud of themselves .. We love y'all and
for fighting and representing their country, as true we are behind yall
Americans. Tonya Jarrell, freshman : 110%. God bless you

all. Amy Sires,
senior

I would tell them that I support you and that I hope
all of you return home unharmed. Donza Rogers,
freshman

For the most part, JCHS students supported
President Bush. They felt he took the neces-
sary action the stop Saddam Hussein. Yet
there were others who felt he should have
resolved the problems through peace-talks.
Some thought he should not have attacked
on Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, birthday. De-
spite the mixed emotions toward Bush, all
students were in support of our troops. They
spoke words of encouragement and wished
them all a safe return.

Thanks for all
that you are doing for
America and the
world. I love you all!
Tammy Fisher,
sophomore

I support you 100%. You are in my thoughts and
prayers daily. come home soon! Amy Nickles, junior

Taking part in the creation of our
yearbook, despite all the hard work
and frustrations, has been one of the
most wonderful experiences of my
life. My staff and I are like a family.
We have worked together and
laughed together, but more impor-
tantly we have built friendships that
will last a lifetime. I would like to
thank not only my staff but Mrs. P.
Morgan for all the support and en-
couragement she gave us. I hope
each student at the ola JCHS WRAPS
UP their year with a happy heart and
bright future that reflects the spirit of
their old Alma Mater.
