Movin On Up!!
It sure was hot this summer in Ma-
con! So what did Central High School
students do to coool off from the hot
summer days?
A popular destination was any place
that had plenty of water. For some,
that was the local swimming pool. Oth-
ers enjoyed the great beaches in the
south St. Simons, Hilton Head, Pan-
ama City, Daytona, and Jacksonville.
Parks such as White Water and Six
Flags drew large crowds, also.
Traveling took up many of our stu-
dents time. Some went to visit
friends, others to new and exciting
places, at home and abroad.
Then, there were the bums of sum-
mer people who just sat at home
and hugged the air-conditioner. They
couldn't have survived the summer
without their climate-controlled envi-
ronments.
These are just a few of the things
students did over the summer break.
Whatever you did, we know you had a
great time. One thing is for certain
the students of Central didnt let the
heat bother them!

What can we say about life in
the '80s? A lot! There were many
memorable events that took
place
In the past decade, President
Ronald Reagan served two terms.
Oliver North was tried for selling
weapons to Iran in exchange for
hostages. Di married Charles.
The Statue of Liberty turned one-
hundred years old, and the Wiz-
ard of Oz turned fifty. More peo-
ple became aware and informed
about the deadly AIDS virus,
which as yet has no cure. Fergie
married Prince Andrew and three
children were born into the royal
family. Pete Rose was found
guilty of gambling, and Jim Bak-
er was convicted of defrauding
his PTL followers. The tragic
event which we will always re-
member was the explosion of the
Challenger. Another tragedy was
the USS Stark naval disaster.
We will also remember things
in our personal lives, like music.
Some people were into Post Mod-
ern groups like INXS, REM, and
Depeche Mode. Heavy metal fans
liked Guns and Roses, Motley
Crue, and Def Leppard. And of
course there were people who
liked rap groups like Run DMC
and JJ Fad.
Everyone will remember the
fashions, iike tie dyed T-shirts,
peace signs, leather jackets, and
penny loafers. We cant forget
our favorite weekend spot the
movies! Vietnam movies like Pla-
toon and Good Morning Vietnam
were popular. Then there were
the horror movies like Friday the
13th and Nightmare on Elm
Street. And of course, everybody
loved ET, Top Gun, and Dirty
Dancing.
We must not neglect the actors
and actresses of the '80s
Alyssa Milano, Michelle Pieffer,
Corey Haim, and Charlie Sheen.
The older favorites were back,
like Cher and Robert Redford.
Its amazing that so many
things can happen in just ten
short years. | hope that we can
look back at the decade, remem-
ber it all, and smile!

Dont you just hate it when
you're walking down the hall and
you notice that special someone
giving you the eye?! You turn
around to smile when all of a sud-
den ... SMASH! you smack head
on with another student, and
books, paper, and pencils fly all
over the hall. Theres no way to
avoid it.
You've just been caught in one
of lifes most embarrassing mo-
ments. Then to top it all off, ev-
eryone stares. Thats not so bad
until that first chuckle comes
along. Then, like a chain reac-
tion, the halls are filled with
laughter. In your maze of red,
you hurry to get away from it all,
only to find yourself slipping
down the stairs.
The 1989 Pegasus survey tells
us that our students top three
humiliating moments are trip-
ping/falling at school, their car
stalling, and dropping their
lunch tray. Just be careful; when
you find yourself in one of those
accidents, make sure that the
photographer is not around!

Jennifer Caldwell and Phil Haynie, her second Love, love me do you know | love you
dad, in Scrooge, a play at Macon Little Theatre. Lon Harbin and Misty Shumaker.
Here at Central High School there is love everywhere. There is boyfriend /girl-
friend love, love from friend to friend, a love for our school, and a student/
teacher love. With all this love, no wonder Central is the best school around!
Friends are a rare breed these days, and to have a true-blue best friend is
special. Rosa and Tracey Davis are great friends. Rosa said that what makes
Tracey her best friend is that she is nice, caring, and loving. Tracey's feelings
were mutual.
Its very special when there is a student-teacher love; when a student thinks
his teacher is the best in the whole school. Some students think of teachers as
being old and mean, but they arent always! Teachers like Mrs. Patricia Toliver
and Mr. William Turner who want to share all their knowledge and skills are
appreciated.
Finally there is a love for our school. When students and faculty do their very
best to make our school number one, they go beyond the call of duty to better
Central. That's a special kind of love.

How do you like my jeans?
One of the things that has
helped to make the world a mad-
house this year is computers.
They do wonderful things like
putting freshmen in senior En-
glish. The one disadvantage to
that is that the freshman, being
new and not knowing about these
things, will spend half the year in
the class and get no credit!
In many cases, students wound
up with no schedules at all. So
they had to go to the office and
sit in line and wait and wait.
But the masses of people in there
kept them company. Many
couldn't get any of the classes
that they wanted.
Another problem is the crowds
of students in classrooms, the
lunchroom, and parking lots.
Desks were in short supply at the
beginning of the year, along with
textbooks. You would think that
with an extra high school, these
maddening problems would be
alleviated.
But all in all, the school year
was fun, exciting, and filled with
new experiences and promises.

We all know how strange things at Central can
get! The students and faculty can be pretty
weird themselves. But believe it or not, the most
common things can be seen as odd from differ-
ent vantage points. For example, if you look at
the point of a pencil directly at the tip, you may
see something totally different than someone
else looking at the same thing.
Are you one of those people who study a part
of an object (without knowing what it is) until
you can tell what the object is? If you are one,
can you correctly identify these pictures? If you
submit all your answers to Ms. Corsons room
(422), you may win a $50.00 gift certificate
from the Macon Mall. Have fun and good luck!
Your senior year in high
school is an emotional and
question-filled time. You ask
yourself so many questions
about the future, and the
most-asked question is, Is
there life after high school?
Twelve years of going to
school and seeing the same
faces; what could possibly be
next?
Years from now as you
look back on your high
school days, you'll discover
that graduating does not
mean that all of your memo-
ries will fade, but they will
remain vivid in your mind as
if they happened yesterday.
The future is yours, class
of 1990. Take advantage of
it. You have a fresh new start
and a new decade to look for-
ward to. The foundations
you've laid will determine
your future. It is now up to
you to set goals and start
moving up towards the fu-
ture.

new beginning of the future." Cathy

Juniors! Four hundred
and twenty of this years
Jum Pp class, rocking at pep ral-
lies, academically strong,
and leaders of many of
+ Central's clubs the
class is diverse and full of
that Charger Spirit. Some
would say that the junior
year is the hardest; no ex-
citement of a new school,
and they dont get the
privileges of the seniors.
Juniors only work hard to
get good grades, stress is
high, and headaches are
common. For many jun-
iors, though, this is not
the key to their year.
Some say that the jun-
iors are above the fresh-
man and sophomores,
but they dont have to be
as mature as the seniors.
But no matter what the
view, the juniors are a big
part of Central looking
toward moving on up to
their senior year.
Being a junior is far more
interesting than being a
sophomore, because | can .
drive to school. Karen Buf-
ford.

Night
Charger ee EN i56
The spirit is back at Central High
School! That was the theme of the first
Charger Pride Night celebration and
pep rally for the Central-Southwest
game. The night began with a spaghet-
ti dinner in the Lanier B cafeteria,
sponsored by the PTSO. Attention
soon turned to the Lanier B Gym as
over 1500 students, teachers, and par-
ents brought the house down with
their enthusiasm.
After the pep rally everyone fol-
lowed the band out to a bonfire beside
the bleachers. The fire was blazing,
the band was playing and everyone
was cheering; it was apparent Charger
pride was definitely present to cheer
our outstanding Charger football team
as they went against our arch rival,
Southwest! Long live Charger Pride!!!!
. The cheerleaders, as always lead everyone in
spirit.
. Mrs. Patricia Barfield, PTSO president recog-
nizes those parents and organizations that
helped make pride night a success.
. Willie Kendrick, disguised as Southmess
Patriot limps onto the gym floor.
. Senior football players and their parents re-
cieve much deserved recognition.
. Central students have a good time at the bon-
fire, while wishing someone would turn the
heat down.

SOPHOMORES
The first day of school
has arrived and its your
sophomore year, but
some of the same
thoughts from the past
year race through your
mind.
Being a sophomore has
its advantages and disad-
vantages. It means not
being the low man on the
totem pole, but you al-
ways have the juniors and
seniors there to remind
you that youre not at the
top.
This year will pose
many opportunities to
meet new people and dis-
sect plenty of creatures
in Biology. It could be the
best year you'll have in
high school. So keep in
mind that your sopho-
more year is a year that
you'll never forget!
Its definitely better
than being a freshman!
This year is going to be
a good year; | can al-
ready tell. Tabitha
Batson.

Central's athletes are
champions in sports ranging
from A to Z. From the coach-
es to the fans, everyone at
Central is part of the athletic
program.
Central sports are a suc-
cess. They help students to
learn, grow, and meet new
people. Also, with many city
championships under our
belt, we are very well-known
for our athletic ability.
With our great coaching
staff: Coach Simonton,
Coach Edward, Coach
Greene, Coach Holleman,
Coach Jones, Coach Smith,
Coach Campbell, Coach
Brown, and Coach Little,
Central strives to be the
best.
The makeup of the players is special. They
have a lot of enthusiasm. They are depend-
able, and one of the most hard-working we
have had." Coach Simonton.

WRESTLING
Adrain Brown, captain of the wrestling team.
Central soccer! Strenuous work, high flying jumps to head the ball, fierce
clashes with another team, relaxing after the game. The first varsity soccer
team at Central High School began last year with a smash. They had enough
players to field two teams and still have substitutes. Many of the players have
been asking, pushing, and petitioning for a soccer team in the High School for
many years and now the varsity soccer team is here. Even more novel is that it is
a coed team. (There were not enough girls to make a separate team. In fact
there were only two girls.) This year the team was stronger than ever and
expanded its opponents to competitive state-wide teams.

For the past ten years, the Central Charger golf team has reigned as City
Champs. Behind the leadership of Mickey Claxton, who was the Georgia AAAA
Champ in 1987, Central has remained a strong contender in the State Cham-
pionship.
Sports Brief
The athletic department at
Central is large. You have your
choice of sports from golf to foot-
ball to wrestling, among at least
ten other sports. It takes a lot to
pull this magnificent program
off. Somebody must be responsi-
ble for doing paperwork, getting
equipment, coaching, and play-
ing. If you stop and think about
it, thats a whole lot of time, ener-
gy, and dedication. But all of this
produces excellence. The excel-
lence of taking award after
award: trophies, championships,
honors, and the biggest award is
the pride with which participants
can say they did their best.
Here are a few of the coaches
that help in giving this school the
best:
Coach Tom Simonton Has
coached 10 years at Central
Coaches: Football, Girls Ten-
nis
Best Seasons at Central: 1981,
1990
It is disappointing when a

My best year was when Mick-
ey Claxton won the Georgia AAAA
Championship as a 10th grader.
My worst year was 1989-90 when
the girls basketball team lost 12
games in a row.
This is what some Central ath-
letes said about sports:
Christian Gray Wrestling
You develop body strength and
it also helps your self-esteem.

sports and help you do better.
David Brown Football

Clubs are
infinitely
important.
Theres
more to

Central High School
students are involved
in many clubs and or-
ganizations. Extra-cur-
ricular activities play
an important role in
the high school scene.
A students participa-
tion in a club helps
him to express his per-
sonality and round out
his education. Inter-
ests in a particular sub-
ject are heightened by
joining a group of peo-
ple with the same in-

Each year is full of
special events at Cen-
tral High. We spon-
sored a beauty contest
for boys. The Jerry
Lewis Telethon, on
September 3, was a
huge success, and we
are proud of the stu-
dent volunteers who
participated. Prom
night was a memorable
one. Anyone who
missed the homecom-
ing game missed out.
Did anyone have fun
at the fair this year?
You got a holiday from
school just to attend.
The concerts were
great Rolling
Stones, REM, Ronnie
Milsap, The Indigo
Girls, and The Who.
Four exchange stu-
dents came to Central.
The street dance this
year was fantastic. The
1989-90 school year
was a BLAST!
It is wise for you to
enter these rooms to
gain knowledge, wis-
don, and truth that
may be useful and
helpful to ones self
and all maknikd.
CENTRAL MR. 1990 Beauty Contest
The wide-eyed girls watched
the display of handsome gents,
and the young men tried to con-
ceal their envy. On Friday, Janu-
ary 19, 1990 the Central High
School Yearbook sponsored a
male beauty contest in the Lanier
B cafeteria.
The crowds of students that
dare to eat during lst and 2nd
lunch were heartily entertained
by the twenty contestants. Ap-
plictions filled out by the contes-
tants also proved entertaining.
The contestants were asked a va-
riety of questions, some about
their hobbies, sports, fears, and
one about their dream girl. Kevin
Mills described his dream girl as
being one who could bring home
the bacon, fry it up in the pan,
and never let him forget hes a
man. Teron Stringer listed his
Mom as a fear, and Keith Higgins
put jello-wrestling as his favorite
sport.
The contestants enjoyed their
chance to shine and the winners
relished their new-found star-
dom.
1 Lifting their arms in recognition, the
lunch bunch goes wild.
2 Christian Harvey parades across the
stage.
3 Cedric Lyons entices the screaming
lunchgoers to applaud.
4 The contestants and sponsors relax af-
ter the stress of the spotlight.
5 A handful of contestants await their
time to shine.
6 Corey Lundy contemplates the madden-
ing cafeteria crowd.
7 Will McGraw glides down the runway
past the announcer.
8 Lewis Howard slides behind the an-
nouncer for one last cheer.

In 1989 singers from all over
found themselves in Macon,
Georgia, playing to the half-
crazed concert-goers. The Indigo
Girls, Emily Saliers and Amy
Johnson, began their climb to
popularity in small pubs in Ath-
ens, Georgia. Recently they
played at the Victorian Village.
REM, another Athens-based
band, played in the Macon Coli-
seum in November as a part of
their Green Tour. New Kids on
the Block rocked the Macon Coli-
seum on March 4 for hordes of
screaming fans. Debbie Gibson,
the starry-eyed girl whose songs
shot up the music charts, per-
formed in Atlanta in 1989.
Country-lovers were also sat-
isfied musically. Ricky Van Shel-
ton, and Alabama, a famous
country group, both performed
here in Macon. Also, the Rolling
Stones played to an ever-faithful
crowd at Grant field in Febru-
ary.
Bands that originated in Ma-
con, such as Piedmont Cooks,
Drivin and Cryin, Vex, and the
7 Simons played throughout the
community. This past year was
an explosive one, with great par-
ties, good times, and outrageous
concerts.

May 6, 1989 began like any other Satur-
day; the sun came up, cartoons came on
T.V., and people just kidded around. How-
ever, if you were a junior or senior, this
wasn't just any day. There were just 12
hours until the prom.
The day started for most of us around
8:00 a.m. with the SAT and then decorat-
ing for the dance. Decorations included
putting up the mural, which Mrs. Kitch-
ens said was most fun, the placement of
the silhouettes on the stage (directed by
Mrs. Ryle), and the placing of columns on
the dance floor (which changed about
twenty times).
Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Swint spent
much of the day doing paperwork, while
Mrs. Brannen put together the refresh-
ments. Finally around 3:00 the volunteers
were allowed to leave, while the advisers
stayed to put on the last touches. The
1989 prom was definitely worth all the
time and effort it even won national
recognition!

March Blossoms
The Parade
Excitement Downtown
Up, Up, and Away!
Every year in October masses of peo-
ple spill into Central City Park to enjoy
the rides and see the sights of the
Georgia State Fair. Children drag their
parents through the petting zoo and
livestock fair with fingers sticky from
cotton candy. Couples sit entwined in
each others arms in the bucket seats
of the ferris wheel, as screams of the
victims on the wild rides bounce off
the stars.
Another big event is the Cherry Blos-
som Festival. It is held in March and is
a week of music, crafts, and fun. The
many booths exhibit a variety of arts
and crafts and delicious foods. Crowds
of people browse and inspect the
many items on sale. People come from
far and wide to enjoy the relaxed at-
mosphere and hospitality of the festi-
val.

Speak Up!
Miss Hughes: Il began teaching because | wanted
to touch the future. | always felt right tutoring and
teaching people. My favorite students to teach are
those who have a desire to learn.
Mr. Pettigrew: Il enjoy the friendly and relaxed
atmosphere at Central, as well as working as an
adviser to several clubs. This is my 28th year teach-
ing and my favorite subject to teach is AP Calcu-
lus.

Mrs. irby: Il enjoy teach-
ing students who want to
learn and try to do their
best. My favorite subject to
teach is English and | also
like speech. | have been
teaching for quite some-
time and do not plan to quit

Mrs. Tuck: This is my
fifth year of teaching. My fa-
vorite subject to teach is

teaching high school stu-
dents.
Mrs. Goodwin: "| became a math
teacher because | always liked to work
with numbers. | enjoy teaching stu-
dents from the ages of 15-17; most of
all | enjoy teaching those students who
want to learn.
Ms. Brannen: I started teaching in
1952, after being unhappy in the fields
of radio, business, and religious edu-
cation. | stayed in teaching because of
the young people | come in contact
with. It is such a joy to watch young
people grow and mature and realize
their full potential.
Mrs. Parker: 'l like teaching juniors because they are
more mature than sophomores and | especially love
American History. My worst experience is when | had a
sneezing attack which interrupted my observation by
the principal.
Coach Edwards: I have been teaching school for nine years
and got into the profession because | like working with young
people and | enjoy the challenge. My favorite subjects to
teach are Mental and Physical Health, and Alcohol and Drug
Awareness.
Mrs. Malone: Teaching is enjoyable; however the difficulty imposed upon
teachers in this sytem makes teaching less enjoyable. One of my favorite Mrs. Tolliver: I chose to follow the
teaching experiences is having a class where all the students are motivated, example set by my idol, my grandmother
enthusiastic and well disciplined. Mrs. Edwards: "I enjoy teaching those and thats why | became a teacher.

Ads are a vital part of
the 1989-90 Central
Pegasus yearbook. Ad-
vertisements recog-
nize the support of the
community for Cen-
tral. The yearbook
staff hits the streets
running every year
trying to muster up
enough ads to give the
school the type of year-
book it expeccts.
Ads improve the
looks and quality of
the yearbook. They
also decrease the
price. Jeff Morgan, of
Balfour, says, We ad-
vertise to help year-
books out and to con-
tact businesses.
Central appreciates
all the businesses and
patrons who purcased
ads in the 1989 year-
book. Thanks for your
continued support.

ERIC JOLLEY
1972-1989
Eric Jolley was more than a
friend.
When you were with Eric, it was
never dull.
He knew what to say and what
not to say.
He will always be with me and
in my heart.
He will be sadly missed, not
only by
his family and friends, but by
his brothers.
Just remember Eric from the
good times
you might have shared with
him and keep
them in your heart. We all love
you
Eric. Peace.

think about people taking pic-
tures and making lots of an-
nouncements. However the
yearbook staff is much more.
Behind the scenes we have pic-
ture croppers, copy writers,
layout artists, computer oper-
ators, sales personnel, and the
ever-popular selling ads. Put-
ting together the yearbook is a
lot of hard work and long
hours after school, but its all
worth it when we see the fin-
ished product.
Its not until you work with
the yearbook that you realize
just how lazy and stubborn the
student body can be. We al-
most had to shoot Ms. Cor-
sons dog to make you buy this
yearbook. Now aren't you glad
you did!
We hope you enjoy the 1990
yearbook. A lot of long hours
and hard work have gone into
it. We would however like to
pause for a minute and thank
Ms. Corson, our advisor, with-
out whom we could have never
done this.
. Jason Maddox and Amy Lines spare a mo-
ment to discuss ad sales.
. Carly Price gets excited over selling all her
ads.
. Chad Frazier and Orlando Moss get serious
about their work.
. Jennifer Caldwell gives a helping hand to
Jennifer Phillips and Lisa Call as they pre-
oad layouts at yearbook camp.
. Rhonda Knight helps show the way.
. Ms. Corson and Dawn Collins prepare the
arbook cover.
. Kisha Foster always enjoys doing her part.
. Work, Work, Work, that's all we ever
seem to do, says, Steven Hobbs.
. We were in a big mess at the Jostens Year-
book Camp up at the University of Georgia
in June "89.
. Let's all crowd around the computer!
. Hey, Hey, the gangs all here.

The 1989-90 school year somehow
whizzed by. We must have been caught up
in the excitement of football season, the
desperation of passing that one class you
have so much trouble in, and the frantic
rush of getting all your homework done by
the next period. Sometimes we just dont
realize how fast time goes by until we find
ourselves thinking that it was just yesterday
when we were standing in the middle of the
hall on that first day, wondering were our
next class was and what hall it was on.
Sound familiar to anyone? You've probably
heard this same line before, In a few years
you will look back on this and laugh. Of
course that will be when you're sitting at a
cluttered desk and you've made it to the
top, while reflecting on how easy high
school was.
Students here at Central may have differ-
ent views on what success is either pros-
perity and wealth, or happiness and stabil-
ity, but either way, believe it or not, you
couldn't have achieved it without the edu-
cation you received in highschool, or just
even from your own personal experience in
high school. All in all, we will be movin on
up in whatever we end up doing and we
have these four years to thank for that.
