ADVERTISEMENTS
Dont the years just seem to fly by? Before you know it you are a
freshman in high school and things are going to be different! For the
first time in ages you have no idea where first period is you'd just like
to know where you're going. The worst part is being considered sec-
ond-class,because you are a measely freshman; you used to be TOP-
DOG at Miller. BOY ARE THINGS DIFFERENT!
Some of the sophomores still feel like the new kid on the block. At
Lanier B you cant even get through the halls to begin the search for the
right class. When you finally find the room you realize its been almost
ten minutes since the last bell rang. To compound the anxiety the class
you have been searching for is biology the class you've been dreading
all summer.
Juniors are often frustrated because the seniors have privileges and
are all ready enjoying the honor. As a junior you do have more responsi-
bilities than either a sophomore or a freshman you start making the
foundation for the rest of your life. SCARY! In less than two years you
are going to be out there on your own.
Then you're finally a senior! There are senior privileges leaving on
the first bell, the senior porch, going to first lunch, and having the Lanier
B parking lot to yourselves. A senior must decide what to do after June
6. College? The Armed Forces? Full-time empolyment? Now that's
when you realize the importance of the time you put into your classes.
All twelve years have prepared you for life after graduation. Seniors
realize that our teachers were right, all doors are open and the opportu-
nities are endless. Often you wish you had listened a little more so that
you would be more prepared. After June 6 things are going to be
different! BOY ARE THEY GOING TO BE DIFFERENT! Where to
now?
1. A toast to our cafeteria.
2. Nathan Howell takes a break during
lunch.
3. Brett Philpot and Paul Moore both give
the food a "thumbs up.
4. Waiting in line for lunch is a thrill.
5. Jammin Juniors at a Central pep rally.
6. Paul Vinson tries to escape class with a
Walk-Man.
7. Sometimes you have to think about it
before you eat lunch!
8. Stafford Stubbs and Willie Johnson know
how to dress. ~
We have all experienced some
sort of procrastination. The last
minute project thats due tomor-
row, those newspaper articles you
did this morning, that test you for-
got about. Its everywhere, at
school and even at home. You
know your room has to be clean
before you go off this weekend
why do we wait until the last min-
ute to try and get everything done?
It puts so much stress on us. We
try to do it all in one day ! For
some of us, procrastination may
be the only way we ever get things
done. But maybe our lives would
be a lot less hectic if we kept up
with things day by day
1. "Tl think about it later
2. Some students waste no time search-
ing for their books

Ready, set, go! and the students are off! It's 2:15, the
bell has rung and locker doors are opening and siam
ming. Loud voices sound down the hall as everyone
pushes and shoves to get out of the building. Soon the
halls are empty, waiting for tomorrow and another
busy day
Although the halls are empty, the campus grounds
are filled with hoards of people and cars. The parking
lots are mass confusion as everyone tries to leave, But
first there are a few obstacies in the way, Everyone
hates those speed breakers, Who needs them!?!", you
say. So in trying to avoid them you take curb instead
Then there are those who do not drive and are
forced to wait for a ride from aa upperclassman,
parent, or worst of all, the dreaded school bus. But
hey. riding the big cheese is nor all that bad as long
as you get your seat in the back of the bus, At least you
get to catch up on all of the day's gossip; and as for
taking the curbs, those bus drivers are pros. They
know just when to hit the curb so that all of your
books fall off the rack and the third person on the seat
falls on the floor
So, no matter what the method of transportation is
everyone eventually leaves. Finally the campus
grounds are cleared and silence awaits a whole new
day of the ever-popular ratrace

non between classes.

moving?
FASHIONABLY ON
IME
Just like time, fashions at Central
change, and this year at Central the styles
are much more mature and sophisticated
Accessories that adorn Central students
this year are bold-face watches, peace ear
ings and pins, scarves, and many different
types of earrings, rings, and necklaces
This year the Central students are setting
the pace of future fashions. Not only are
these students coming up with new fash
ions, like long skirts and dresses, slouchie
boots, and baggy jeans, but are bringing
back old fashions, like pennie loafers, and
tie-dyed shirts.
These are just a few styles that have been
observed this year at Central. But like the
many different types of fashions, the stu-
dents at Central are different too. The per
sonalities at Central are too unique to have
a set style of clothing
From where we sit the students at Cen
tral High School are doing a great job in a
fashionable point of view, SO KEEP IT
UP!

1. Signs of the times.
2. Lisa really likes the woodsy colors.
3. Mack Hickman says, "AKO!"
4. Just be yourself, its the bese way to go.
5. Joey Fernandez wears the ever-popular Levis, Sebagos,
and Polo shirt.
6. Brandi Krysalka and Rhonda Knight differ in opinion on
skirt lengths.
7. Kita says, Yeah, we can finally wear shorts!
8. Many students sported the acid washed look.
. and of course, our football team is always fashion-
ably on time.
Life after school! This is
where the interesting answers
are found. What does the aver-
age student do with his precious
time? A great deal of the stu-
dents work to pay for such ne-
cessities as clothes, cars, and
tapes. Some of the luckier stu-
dents have the time to just go
shopping or look for something
to do.
Homework is the after-school
event that most students least
care for. The time and amount is
determined by the teacher and
the class. Sometimes the student
takes this into their own hands
by not doing any at all.
Basically, a student's time off
is spent doing what he enjoys
the most. It's his time and he
wants to make the most of it.
Here are some examples of stu-
dents enjoying their time off
1. Time-out for shooting baskets.
2. Take it easy on that sandwich,
Ron!
3. Leslie Hodge and Amy James
relax during lunch
4. Band students find time off
5. This looks like a great place co
visit.
6. Janelle Peale cakes a quiet mo-
ment.
7. PIG OUT!

The chill of winter is losing its
bite, the gentle breezes seem to be
fresher, the sun is feeling warmer
and the smiles of those you pass on
the street seem to be brighter. Its
Cherry Blossom time in Macon,
Georgia. Pink flags begin appear-
ing around the city, downtown
parks are spruced up for spring,
and pink fashions appear in dress
shop windows. Why, even the
streets themselves bloom with
_ blossoms. But it doesnt really
happen overnight as it may seem.
Plans have been underway since
the end of the last Festival.
Over 115,000 blooming Yo-
shino Cherry trees make the Ma-
con, Georgia Cherry Blossom Fes-
tival a spectacular sight to see in
March. Each year the Cherry Blos-
som Festival features a different
1. Cherry trees in full bloom for the festival.
2. The trees aren't the only things blooming in
Macon
3. Send in the clowns, there ought to be clowns.
4. I love a parade!
5. Hey Macon, why don't you throw me a party
like this?
6. They have the Cherry Blossom spirit!
7. The Mulberry Arts and Crafts Festival offers
something for everyone.
The first day of school has
finally arrived. You are so-o
nervous. You make it to school
and are filled with confidence in
yourself.(YOU HOPE YOU
ARE ANYWAY!) Then all of a
sudden you're lost, you cant
find anything. You ask someone
and he gives you the wrong di-
rections. Finally after you've
been shoved around and pushed
aside, you find your class. You
think to yourself PLEASE let
this day end!
Being a freshman is like start-
ing school all over again. Then
you gain a little dignity by being
a sophomore, and you grow
more comfortable with yourself.
Juniors settle in a little more;
you become anxious as you a
proach your senior year. Then
you are there, finally on top. But
soon you will return to the fear
of starting over once more.
Wait Catherine, there's more!
Boy are you crazy!"

3. And the zombies march on
4. The Senior porch can be nice, if you find
the right place.

So this is the year,
you're a senior! Its funny
to look back on the past
and remember everything
that has happened to you;
the grades, the pain. All
is forgiven and forgotten
now that you are in your
final year.
This is a year of big
plans for the future and a
time of remembrance.
This is a time of happi-
ness, of graduating, and
sadness of leaving
friends. This is a time of
pleasure, knowing that
you made it and are pre-
pared for life after high
school.
This year is an impor-
tant time in your life that
you'll never forget. Dont
let it slip by without get-
ting everything possible
out of it. This is your
year!

In October, the Pegasus staff held a mock election. The
results show that Michael Dukakis won by a margin of 90
votes. Interviews were conducted with students. Kevin
Fussell remarked, Bush is a fullfledged capitalist. He
believes in nothing more than a government run by the
people and for the people. Matt Stone says, Im for
Bush, I'm not sure why ...
Im for Dukakis; Bush supports only the wealthy ...
was Annonda O'Neal's feeling. Matthew Davis insists that
we need a president like Dukakis, not one who will
break the law by selling arms to a terrorist nation or fill
the coffers of a Panamanian drug dealer.

Here at Central, our
many activities encourage
students to excel. Senior
Superlatives and Selec-
tions honor outstanding
12th grade students. An
exceptional senior stu-
dent and teacher are rec-
ognized every year by the
Star Student Program.
There are other ways that
students have been recog-
nized. Central has had in
the past years a represen-
tative in the Junior Miss
Program. We applaud
these stucents for show-
ing true Charger Pride
through excellence.

The 1989 Senior Superlatives are most definitely the cream of the crop. To gain this title, each Superlative
must have been nominated by a teacher, have a 2.75 grade-point average, and compete with other nominees
for the most activities. The nominees are then voted on by the Senior class.

Each year Central has exchange students
from around the world. This year is no excep-
tion. We have two foreign exchange students
one from Finland and the other from West
Germany.
Christina Schilling was familiar with Amer-
ica before she even arrived. She stated that
she had A lot of good friends in Germany
who have been Exchange students in America;
they told me about this country ... She says
that Americans act a little differently than she
had expected. But that doesnt bother her.
Our school system is run quite differently
than in West Berlin. She attended grammar
school for six years and afterward you have a
choice of three different schools. The first is
the Hauptschule which is the lowest of the
three and you go for three more years after
grammar school. Second is the Realschule
which is a little harder requiring four more
years of schooling. The third, a Gymnasi-
um, the most difficult, requires another sev-
en years. The Gymnasium is the only school
that allows the students the option of college.
Finally, she said that she is really enjoying
her visit to America because of the many nice
friends she has met. When asked if she would
like to come back to America, she said, Sure
I will come back.
Pasi Miettinen is a 17 year-old from Fin-
land. He is from a town called Rajani, located
in the central part of the country. He is staying
with Kevin Reid, a senior here at Central.
Pasi had a realistic view of America be-
fore he came here because many of his friends
have been here, and they had told him about
it. When he got here, one of his first impres-
sions was friendly southern people who are
very nice. He says it has been easy for him to
meet people here.

Pasi generally likes the American lifestyle, and he really
enjoys being here, but he says, Every country has good and bad
sides. He also likes Central, but says it is a lot different from
the schools in Finland. His school in Finland has only about
500 students, compared to more than 2,000 here. Also, Finnish
high school isnt compulsory.
Like most high school students, Pasi likes music, sports,
traveling, and spending time with his friends. He wants to go to
college, where he will decide what he wants to do in life.

Macons Junior
Miss 1989
Lisa Phillips
Lisa Phillips was named Macon's Junior Miss for 1989.
She attended Georgias Junior Miss and competed for the
title of Georgias Junior Miss 1989. Junior Miss is unlike
other pageants; it is a Scholarship Program and not a
beauty pageant. All Junior Misses receive a scholarship to
be used at the college of their choice. The judging criteria
for Junior Miss is based on Scholastic Achievement,
Judges Interview, Creative and Performing Arts, Physi-
cal Fitness, and Poise and Appearance. Three of the past
four Macons Junior Misses have attended Central; Ange-
la Kendall 1986, Natalie New 1988, and this year
Lisa Phillips. Above, Lisa Phillips congratulates Geor-
gias Junior Miss 1989, Tia Smith.

On January 7, 1989 thirty-five junior and senior girls
competed for the title of 1989 Cherry Blossom Queen and
princesses. Central had ten girls in the pageant, the most
from any school. Lisa Phillips was crowned a Cherry Blos-
som Princess. The girls competed in a judges interview and
evening-gown competition.
The Queen and Princesses served as Goodwill Ambassa-
dors for the Cherry Blossom Festival and the City of Macon.
They attended the Cherry Blossom Ball and rode in the
Cherry Blossom Parade. Phillips said, I feel it is an honor
to represent Macon and the Cherry Blossom Festival; I am
excited and looking forward to a great year as a Princess. I
hope to have the privilege of crowning someone from Cen-
tral next year so that we can carry on the tradition of a
Central student being either a Cherry Blossom Princess or
the Queen.

Everything that could go wrong
did! These were the exact words from
Mrs. Ryle about the 1988 prom, Once
Upon A Dream. It was held on Friday,
May 13, which was a bad coincidence to
begin with.
On this day it rained, and decorations
fell down and apart. By 8:00 that night,
however, no one could have guessed the
trials and errors of the day. About 550
people attended this affair at the City
Auditorium.
A few of the highlights during this
exciting night were the coronations of
Jay Jackson and Charita Clay for king
and queen. First runners-up were Cab
Baldwin and Lynetta Clay.
The prom only comes around once a
year, and those who attended will have
lasting memories from the night, Once
Upon A Dream.
The Central Chargers beat the Hephzibah Re-
bels by a score of 30 to 0. The Chargers dominat-
ed the game from the very start. Central con-
trolled the game completely with both the
running game and the passing game. The key
running backs were sophomore William Cliett,
who rushed for 113 yards, and junior Cedric
Lyons, who rushed for 100 yards. The combina-
tion of quarterback Victor Griffin and wide re-
ceiver Carlos Dorn led the passing attack. Grif-
fin had 61 and 46 yard touchdown passes to
Dorn. Left guard Adrain Brown led the offensive
linemen with great blocking. Kicker Joey Hiller
also had a great night with three successful extra
point attempts, a 30 yard field goal and a 43.5
yard punting average. On defense the powerful
Chargers were led by defensive tackle Paris Har-
vey and inside linebackers Paul Vinson and Ran-
dy Solomon.

everyone. With all of the
interesting and fun things
they do, no one knows
what to expect next.
There is an added benefit
of learning new things
while you are enjoying
yourself, Without its
clubs, Central just would
not be the same. They
give us the chance to de-
velop interests and hob-
bies as well as enriching
academics.

CENTRALS
The Central High School
JROTC is noted as one of the old-
est JROTC units in America, and
ranks in the top 20% across the
country. The Central High School
JROTC started in 1917 when Cen-
tral was a school for boys; for fifty
years JROTC was a required class.
Through the years the JROTC
classes at Central have become a
tradition. In March there is a Mili-
tary Ball. On parade days every-
one has his Brass sparkling, and
we can also see the Golden Boots
show their stuff in a drill meet.
JROTC is a part in many stu-
dents lives at Central, and they
will never forget the times they've

The faculty at Central
is the most important part
of the school. Where
would we be without
them? They give us the
knowledge we will need
in the future. They keep
up with all of our
records. They do whatev-
er they can to help us
have a great year at
school.
We usually dont ac-
knowledge our faculty,
but we need to. They do a
great job and we should
be VERY proud of them.
Day in and day out they
constantly grade papers,
make up tests, and try to
do things that make their
class a little different
from all the others.
Each faculty member
has his own unique way
of showing us he cares
about us and our future.
We thank all the faculty
and we do appreciate
you!

The sports programs at Cen-
tral High are very important to
the student body. They enable
us to participate in activities
which are fun and exciting. The
programs allow us to contrib-
ute to our school, giving great
publicity.
Athletics at Central provide
success. Our school has had its
ups and downs, but the sports
staff at Central is full of bright
and able coaches. They provide
our athletes the training needed
for collegiate scholarship
offers.
At Central, we enjoy foot-
ball, softball, and cross country
in the fall; basketball and wres-
tling in the winter; baseball-
,track, tennis, and golf in the
spring. We have something for
all.

Ann,
You're a wonderful daughter, and
you have a special way of bringing
love to others through the things you
do and say.
And what you've brought to others
you've brought to our lives too ...
We are so very thankful for a daughter as special as
you.
Love,
Mom, Dad, Mary,
Ricky, Catherine, Wesley
Valerie, David, Stephanie
To My Dear Daughter, Lisa
You will never know the joy
that you brought into my life
eighteen years ago. It seems
like only yesterday that you
were a tiny baby and suddenly
you are a mature young lady.
I shall always cherish the special happy times we've
shared. When you cried, I cried; when you laughed, I
laughed; your problems were my problems; your joys
were my joys; and your special events were my special
events.
Though I would like to take credit for your sweet
nature and thoughtfulness, I realize you did this on your
own. My heart swells with pride as I have seen you excel
in your high school career. You have worked hard and it
has paid off. It seems everything you touched turned to
gold.
And now, my heart is saddened by the realization that
the next few years may find us apart from each other as
you are about to enter your college career. However, be
assured I will always be there when you need me. Re-
member, stand up for what you believe in, keep your
beautiful smile and never stop believing in yourself.
YOU'RE A WINNER!!!
Congratualtions! May God keep and bless you. I Love
You.
All My Love Forever,
to Aaron Crawford

DAUGHTER
Daughter is a lovely word that al-
ways brings to mind memories of the
happiest and very warmest kind! Happi-
ly remembering the little girl you used
to be, proudly recognizing the young
woman you've become.
Congratulations and good luck,

The Army ROTC Program was initiated in 1917 by the
teaching faculty. The students drilled with wooden rifles.
During 1919 the federal government chartered JROTC in
some high schools across the country Lanier became
chartered during that first year. The program was re-
quired of all students who were physically fit for fifty
years 1919-1970. The program was made an elective dur-
ing school year 1970-71 and the schools name was
changed to Central. The Central program has been
named Honor Unit with Distinction during its entire
history, which is the highest ranking given by the United
States Army to cadet programs.
The ROTC Department assists several local charities
in their fund drives for the needy in the community.

Times of your life
The school year, 1988-1989, has come to an end. Where did it go? Somehow in the blur of sports events, pep rallies, club
meetings, library research projects, and final exams, it slipped past us.
It has been a good year, and its events have been captured and recorded for future reminiscences. Vivid scenes come to mind
now as we recall our year together the good feeling that comes from knowing we're prepared for that major test, the
uncontrollable panic when we realized our math homework was still lying on the kitchen table, the happy chattering of friends as
we stood in line in the lunch room or walked between classes. Some moments will remain clear forever; others will fade from
memory. It is our hope that this record of our year together will trigger the recall of all our successes and warm friendships.
Such recall is an important part of our growing into adulthood and its responsibilities. Weve learned the importance of being
adequately prepared and the success and self-assurance such preparation can bring. We know how to avoid that panic over
forgotten math homework by keeping our lives and duties in order. We will always cherish the friendship of our high school years
and see the necessity of maintaining those relationships as well as establishing new ones. Only from these experiences can we
profit and grow into what we dream to be. The world awaits us and we are ready.
