We do not believe anyone stands still in time. Today is
just the edge of tomorrow. We want to take this time to
examine and remember our Todays. This is our time to
grow, learn, and share with our friends, parents, and
teachers. Although we cannot be sure of the future, our
actions now, especially our education, will have an im-
pact on our lives. We end one phase of our lives, as we
are on the verge of sampling totally new experiences

We are all traveling on towards the future. We are the
producers, consumers, dreamers, and developers of to-
morrow. Our lives will be filled with technology, ad-
vancement, and enrichment, and we will have forever
our pathway of achievement in our memories

TRAVELS OF

A BULLDOG

Whether we are freshmen or seniors, our pathway leads us
straight into academics, sports, clubs, and graduation. Each
new challenge sets our course for tomorrow. We have become

aware that we are part of tomorrow, and will be needed there

Because of our todays, we will find success waiting for us

OUR PATHWAYS HAVE:

With over 550 students at-
tending MCHS, our hallways are
crowded and snack lines long.
Our schedule begins at 8:15
am and lasts through 3:09
p.m., and sandwiched between
are six subject hours, which can
be tiring and trying on our
brains. We must discipline our-
selves to study and respect oth-
ers

HAD GREAT TIMES

Let's party. Lets jam. The Bulldog likes a good time, good friends, and
a fast car. Our school days may be crammed with classwork and practice,
but our weekends are free for fun. When we remember this time, one
point will always shine the PEOPLE. Whether visiting the DQ or
dancing in the gym, we have learned how meaningful friendships can be
Any goal can be reached, with someone special on the road beside you.

Our Bulldog is a mixture of many talents and personal-
ities. These differences add spice to school life, and en-
hance the learning process. This Bulldog has a powerful
spirit to pull through in trying times. By contributing
through extra-curricular activities, we learn that hard work
has its own rewards. We rely on this Bulldog strength to
continue to strive for the best and to push on down the
road.

WITH DETERMINATION

by _- oe,
- .
~ ~ Pn,

We are achievers. All year the Bulldog has spotlighted the
musicians, mechanics, athletes, and most importantly the stu-
dents. Our honors earned in test scores, football yardage, and
debate skills encourage us to tackle life at full speed. We can.
We will. We must.

ACCOMPLISHED OUR

We are fortunate to have a new
building complemented with new
faculty and modern equipment.
Our courses have been expanded
with greater variety for the indivi-
duals needs construction, trans-
portation, metal working, and
health for those wishing immediate
employable skills French and
computer literacy for the pre-col-
lege programs.

Our facilities have a face-lift with
the renovation of kitchen equip-
ment and addition of special lunch
line. Two requlation tennis courts
are complete, which now make
practices easier for our winning
team. The faculty and students
were treated to a newly paved and
marked parking area, too.

The deeds we do, the words we say,
Into still air they seem to fleet,
We count them ever past;
But they shall last,
In the dread judgment they and we shall meet.

I charge thee by the years gone by,

For the loves sake of brethen dear,

Keep thou the one true way, in work and play
Lest in that world their cry of woe thou hear.

JOURNEYS

Fly forward, O my heart, from the

Foreland to the Start

We're steaming all too slow,

And its twenty thousand mile to our
little lazy isle
Where the trumpet orchids blow!
You have heard the call of the off-
shore wind
And the voice of the deep-sea rain:
You have heard the song how
long how long?

Pull out on the trail again!

The Lord knows what we may find,
dear lass,

And the Deuce knows what we may do

But were back once more on the old
trail, our own trail the out trail,

We're down, hull down, on the Long

Trail the trail that is always new!

The Long Trail

STAR STUDENT

The STAR STUDENT AWARD, given
annually by the Georgia Chamber of
Commerce, is awarded to the Senior
scoring highest on the Scholastic Apti-
tude Test (SAT). This person must also
be in the top ten percent of the graduat-
ing class. This years recipient of the
award was John Jones.

Johns record included not only high
academic standards, but an interest in the
whole school program. He has served on
the Student Council four years, held
memberships in Sam Jones Honor Soci-
ety and the National Honor Society. In
his sophomore year, John attended the
Hugh OBrian Leadership Foundation
Seminar. He was selected as a finalist in
the field of science for the Governor's
Honors Program. He has been accepted
at Emory at Oxford and Mercer Universi-
ty, and will be choosing a future.

John chose Miss Wylene Webb as his
STAR TEACHER, because of the great
influence she has had on his education
and the dedication she feels for her job.

Being recognized as system
STAR student is not only an
honor for me but also for Macon
County High School. This selec-
tion represents the quality of
education at Macon County
High. Quality education comes
from quality educators. The fac-
ulty at Macon County High show
great concern for the students
and the education they receive. |
feel that with these types of edu-
cators, Macon County Highs
reputation as one of the finest
schools of the area will be sus-
tained for a long time.

STAR TEACHER

Miss Webb, a MCHS alumni, has
been teaching for 13 years, and is
currently a Georgia Certified E.M.T..,
as well as, a Red Cross Instructor in
First Aid. She received a B.S.
Degree in Education with majors in
Biology and Physical Education from
Georgia Southwestern College in
Americus. Returning to school in
1981, she completed the
requirements for a Masters in
Education. As our tennis coach, her
teams have gone to State Finals for
five of the seven years. In the
summer of 1983, she was named
Coach of the Year by the Georgia
Coaches Association. She has also

Education has been a rewarding
career for me, in that I am able to
see kids go through high school and
find challenging careers in their
future. John is a fine example of
our students. It was a pleasure to
work with him.

Traveling On

Under the guidance of a new advisor, Mrs.
Jo Campbell, and a new publisher, this
year's staff was weak at the beginning, as
only five of the staff were returners. We had
a lot to learn.

After attending a three-day summer
workshop at Auburn University, we were
responsible for capturing the 1983-84 school
year in a limited number of pages. The staff
was responsible for selling ads, selecting a
theme, taking pictures, and organizing them
and copy for the books sections. Dedication,
determination, and pure luck saw us through.

We hope you will enjoy this effort and
cherish it always.

It is not enough for young men and women to
read about becoming good business leaders. They
must set goals, participate, and complete projects

VARSITY FOOTBALL

The 84 Bulldogs were a young team, but were expecting big
things to happen. The Bulldogs played with great determination
and spirit. The Dogs had an eye on the playoffs, but a
controversial decision in favor of a region opponent cost them a
chance to go. Although a hard one to lose, they kept fighting
until the end. The season ended at 5-5.

The Macon County Baseball team
is taking to the field this year with
high hopes. We have a new coach,
new equipment, a much improved
playing field, and lots of support
from the school and community.

Coach Kipp McLeod has been a
member of two National teams, has
coached a State Championship
team, and has coached at Valdosta
State College, third in the Nation in
its Division. McLeod truly believes a
winning attitude, and he is sure
Macon County High players have it.

Pat Bellew. The team is also optimistic
about this years attribute, Vaughn
Lucky. Lucky is listed in the States
Top 30 for the age 16, and under.
Because last years Boys team cap-
tured such titles as 2nd Place South
Sections Champs, and Boys Region 1
AA Champs, the team is looking for-
ward to an even greater season this
year; perhaps State Champs.

Coach Wylene Webb expects dedi-

practices when it was still mighty cold.
She believes practice makes perfect,
and her record for winning proves it.

EDITORS NOTE

The task of completing the
1984 Bulldog has finally
come to an end. A job that
seemed almost impossible was
not so difficult with the help of
all those people who took part
in making this years book a re-
ality. | would like to thank Mr.
David Zeigler of Jostens Pub-
lishing Company for all the help
he has given us throughout the
year, Mrs. Jo Campbell for her
many hours of hard work and
patience, and finally, the 1984
Bulldog Staff for their unend-
ing, dedicated efforts. Thanks
must go also to Coach Car! Peas-
ter, Owens Studios, John Con-
verse, the Faculty, and the Stu-
dent Body because without their
support this book would have
remained a dream.

The Staff and | hope that this
annual will hold many memories
for everyone at MCHS and that
each individual who bought one
will enjoy it as much as we en-
joyed producing it.

My experience as editor of
the 1984 Bulldog has led me
down many different pathways.
Although my journey, as well as
the other students, has only just
begun, this experience will en-
rich my existence as | continue
to travel through the remaining
journeys of my life. It is my wish
that somewhere, down the line,
our paths will cross once again
and we can share the memories
this book contains.

Thanks for the privilege of
editing your 1984 Bulldog.

Sincerely,

Lynne Rooks

~

Even though many of us have
come to the end of our journeys
here at M.C.H.S., we have just
begun that long road which leads
into the unknown future. We will
always remember and be thankful
to M.C.H.S. and the people who
have prepared us for our future.
The valuable lessons of life we
have learned here will help us
face the challenging road which
we have yet to travel.

But the road leads us all,
And we know, stand or fall,
We have shared the days bread.
We can laugh down the dream,
For the dream breaks and flies:
And we trust now the gleam,
For the gleam never dies;
So its off now the load,

For we know the nights call,
And we know now the road
And the road leads us all.
