WRHS is a name known all over
the state of Georgia because its
students and their abilities have made
the school famous. The football team
proves its worth every weekend of
the season. Likewise, the band
proudly marches to display its
outstanding talent. WRHS students
constantly utilize their abilities to
make their school a great one.
Several clubs have members who are
officers in the state organizations.
And each year we have a large
number of students selected for
All-State Chorus, Band, and Orches-
tra, and the Governors Honors
Program. The WRHS Literary Team
almost always places in region and
state competition, as do several of
our athletic teams. The one-act play
and the annual Revue give artistically
inclined students a chance to present
their entertaining capabilities. Each
day, our skills and accomplishments
shine brightly for all to SEE that
WRHS is Number One!

After many days of practice, Silk Corp members Allison Kent, Denise
Adams, Michelle Perry, Laura Miller, and Andrea Gale anxiously
await their chance to show-off their skills in the Homecoming

Parade.

Traditions

One of the best aspects of attending
WRHS is experiencing the traditions
which have become such a vital part of
the school. These traditions are long-
continued and have been handed down
from class to class throughout our schools
history. Tradition, that something
extra, fulfills a leading role at Warner
Robins. It teaches us to appreciate and
take pride in our school: its past, present,
and future. We learn what is expected of
us as sophomores and meet these
expectations as juniors and seniors. As we
endure club initiations ... order class
rings ... build homecoming floats
elect class officers ... plan the Junior-
Senior Prom ... and attend club
conventions, we live-out WRHS traditions.
These traditions have allowed our school
to remain a great one for many years.

school and becoming a member of a graduating

Academics

WRHS offers many interesting
courses and has well-informed faculty
members to teach them. Students can
choose from such diverse topics as
welding, chorus, weight-lifting, and
drama. Many people select classes that
they feel will aid them in their future
career or college, while others simply
take what is necessary to graduate.
Whatever the case, it is possible to take

enjoyable as well as _ informative

subjects during the six-period-a-day
schedule. For future homemakers and
future bachelors, home economics
courses can be useful. Prospective
college students will find the typing,
math, English, social studies, and
science classes to be beneficial. Art,
chorus, band, drama, and creative
writing courses will appeal to those
people who are interested in fine arts.
You may have to LOOK hard to find
the right class, but whatever your
interest or ability may be, WRHS has
a class for you.

Class divisions are strong at WRHS. Seniors
assume the role of the tired, old veteran
They are usually authoritative, well-informed,
and proud ... of themselves, their class, and
their school. Seniors have the distinct benefits
of going to pep rallies ahead of the other classes,
nominating the Homecoming Court, voting for
Outstanding Seniors, exempting finals, relaxing
on the Senior Bench, receiving their yearbooks
before anyone else in the school, enjoying a
Senior Day, and going on the Senior Trip
Juniors order their class rings, sell magazines,
and plan the Junior-Senior Prom. And for the
sophomores, finally getting the chance to attend
the big school is a privilege in itself. Each class
has a definite identity which sets it apart from
the others, and all of the students are proud of
their year and the class of which they are a

Who are the Demons? WE ARE THE
DEMONS! and proud of it, too! WRHS
abounds with enthusiasm over its many
achievements. We scream our lungs out at pep
rallies, wear as much red as we can, and do
anything else necessary to show that we are
proud of our school. Every club in which we are
involved and every activity in which we
participate is a conscientious effort on our part
to get involved and show our school spirit. It is
sometimes difficult to be spirited when we are
fairly confident that our team will stomp on its
opponent every week. But we are always proud
to be part of the Big Red Demon Machine
and the Dixie Express, and it feels good to
be able to say, I go to Warner Robins High.
And no matter which way the game may turn
out, we'll always feel a great sensation when we
hear the announcement that Ladies and
Gentlemen, you are now in Demon Country!

Getting involved can sometimes mean hard work! After
school one day in the fall, band members practice their
halftime show

Goals

During our years at WRHS each of us
will set and strive to attain some type of
goal. Some of us will reach our goals; many
others will fall short, yet perhaps gain more
through the struggle. Many will run for
office; others will do what is necessary to
meet a certain clubs acceptance requir-
ements. Still others will give their best effort
to a particular athletic or artistic field
Whatever the task, it will not be an easy
one. Some will be recognized for their
achievements, while many others will only
be rewarded with personal satisfaction. But
it is important to remember that it is through
our attempts to succeed that we grow. And
finally, growing is a common goal for all of

us, for only as we grow can we clearly

observe what is happening and actually
TAKE A CLOSER LOOK at ourselves.

Dedication-Mrs. Mary Hammond

16 DEDICATION

We, the members of the yearbook staff of
WRHS, dedicate the 1982 Pioneer to one of the
most long-standing and admired members of our
teaching staff. In addition to the efforts she has
put forth to help us become informed and to
prepare us for the future, she has given much
of her time outside the classroom to benefit school
activities. During her years at WRHS, she has
served as Social Studies Department Chairman
and adviser to each years junior class in its
production of the prom. She has been an active
sponsor of the American Legions Oratorical
Contest and has also helped sell tickets to athletic
events, Follies, and Revue. As we leave WRHS
we, the Seniors, will always remember her
consistency as an educator and friend.

It is with great honor and appreciation that
we dedicate this annual to Mrs. Mary Hammond.

Take a Closer Look

One of the best aspects of
attending WRHS is being able to
meet others and get to know them.
Our relationships help us look
forward to school each day, for
sharing time with others helps us
forget about all the homework,
tests, term papers, and book
reports that make up the seem-
ingly endless assignments we
receive. Talking to our friends
allows us to express our feelings
and to experience good times,
struggles, and memories we can
keep forever. What would we do
without the wonderful gift of ...

Senior Class

The Class of 82 began its senior
year in an original way by using a
different approach to the Homecoming
Parade theme, The Best of Times.
The float showed a couple enjoying
summer on the beach. Throughout their
three years of high school, these
spirited individuals proved consistently
to be a creative and energetic group
Memorable moments include winning

the spirit and hall-decorating awards,

rolling a hall, winning the spirit link
contest, and planning the Junior-Senior
Prom and the Senior Ball. Each year
they gave the task of float-building their
best effort and had a lot of fun working
on all three floats. After graduation,
seniors in the Class of 82 will always
have happy memories of the good times
they shared at WRHS

Before the Homecoming Parade, Tim Sharpe, Jay Hanson, Duane Fields, Linda Choney, and Janie
Elliott wait for the judges decision on the winner of the float competition

112 JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS

Junior Class

This ars junior class proved its
worth right from the start by winning
the float competition. The class
members are energetic and _high-
spirited, and they added a lot of life to
each of the pep rallies. The juniors sold
over $15,000.00 worth of magazines;
this money gave them a very healthy

Keith Lauritsen, Greg McMichael, Damie Waddell, and Morris Borders endure club initiations budget with which to plan an enjoyable

Junior-Senior Prom for the entire

school. Other activities for the class

members included purchasing their
senior rings and winning the link contest
at the Northside Pep Rally. Even
though the juniors enthusiasm some-
times got out of hand, they usually just
did their best to boost Demon spirit

128 SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS

Sophomore Class

The Sophomore class got the 1982
school year off to a good start by
electing its officers and soon afterward
placing third in the Homecoming
Parade float competition. The class
worked hard throughout the year to
demonstrate their spirit and enthusiasm
for WRHS. Although the sophomores
were the victims of a few pranks, such
as a huge smoke bomb which led to the
cancellation of an entire month of pep
rallies and other less serious pranks like
light-hearted ridicule from the upper-
classmen, by the end of the year they
had become a unified, close-knit group
well on its way to becoming a strong
asset to our school

Georgia to play one of the teams many
people believed would represent the
North in Georgia AAAA state cham-

Gladiators. However, the game really
was not that close. Three times in the
first half the Demons marched down the
field only to be stopped inside the 20

rainfall that would have made Noah
feel at home. Finally, in the third
quarter, the Demons held on to the ball
long enough to score on a pass from
quarterback Jay Griffin to split end
Bryan Palmer. Clarke Central added a
field goal in the fourth quarter but the
Demons held on to win their second
game of the season.

Using a balanced attack offensively and
defensively the Demons managed to defeat the
Southwest Patriots and their one man offensive
attack. Patriots Quarterback Terry Brown was the
only Patriot to carry the ball. Brown managed to
score on two long runs but that is all Southwest
managed to accomplish. A very aggressive

Warner Robins winning both with ease.
This year the Demons won the contest
again, running all over the Raider

field. On the other hand Shaw did not
do much offensively and spent most of
the night running three plays then
punting. The home stands were packed
at the beginning of the game but with
a comfortable lead many of the Demon
fans headed for shelter or their favorite
after-game hang out. For those who
weathered the storm, they saw Warner
Robins win its seventh game and
remain undefeated.

A crowd of more than 10,000 people jammed into International Stadium
to watch the game of the year: Warner Robins against cross-town rival
Northside. As in past years this game decided which team would continue
into post-season playoff games. Warner Robins dominated the statistics even
though it held only a small lead on the scoreboard. Northside scored on two
mistakes made by the Demons. The big story for Warner Robins was Junior
David Hank Williams who rushed for 231 yards, including two touchdowns
on runs of 75 and 73 yards. The win was Warner Robins tenth and gave
them home field advantage in the region playoffs.

Fullback David Hank Williams outruns the Eagle

The Demon defense gave up only 123 total yards to
Northside. Here they stop the Northside Quarterback

The Warner Robins Demons captured the
Region 2-AAAA title, defeating the Central
Chargers of Macon 21-8. Warner turned the ball
over four times, but the tough Demon defense
did not give Central a chance to capitalize on
the mistakes. Fullback David Williams rushed for
137 yards and tailback Arthur Boo Clark
rushed for 102 yards. Central gained 135 yards
on offense, half of those yards came on a long
bomb which covered 61 total yards. Warner
Robins, on the other hand, gained 335 yards on
offense.

The Dixie Demon Band plays
many roles at the school. With this
years new uniforms, the band
members added more entertainment
and color than ever before. During
winter the previous quarters marching
band divided into the concert and
symphonic bands. Each of these groups
participates at festival in the winter and
neither has ever before received a
score lower than superior. During
spring quarter, the bands traveled to
Knoxville, Tennessee, where they were
invited to perform at the 1982 Worlds
Fair. As a money raising project for this
trip, band members sold Indian River
Fruit during the fall.

What does a AAAA high school do
when it loses two choral directors in two
years? It simply hires a social studies
teacher! Mrs. Beth McConnell, an
economics teacher, accepted the job of
director after two other teachers
resigned. With the help of a handful of
returning singers and a lot of new ones,
she was able to put together a
pleasant-sounding Chorus and organize
our traditional ensemble, the Chor-
aliers. Chorus is made up of anyone
who enjoys singing and is able to take
the class. Choraliers are students who
audition before the director and any
returning Choraliers, and then are
voted upon by these students. Both
groups worked throughout the 82
school year to entertain those for whom
they performed.

French Club promotes the culture
and language of France. In order for a
student to be a member he should
preferably have studied at least some
French. This years Cercle Francais
held a window-wash to raise money.
The club members also held a
Christmas party in addition to a
Spanish-French culture exchange at
which the French Club tasted and
learned about Spanish food. A French-
Spanish exchange was also planned so
that Spanish Club members could learn
about and taste French quisine.

Spanish Club

The Spanish Club, spon-
sored by Senora Martha
Valdes, is comprised of
students who have taken at
least one year of Spanish. In
the fall members sold candles
as a major fundraising project.
They also planned car washes
and bake sales for the spring.
Every year the students volun-
teer their time to work at the
Georgia Special Olympics as a
community service. Overall,
Spanish Club is simply a group
which gets together to learn a
language and have fun.

democratic philosophies of private
enterprise and competition. The pro-
gram includes numerous projects; one
of the main ones at WRHS is the
shoplifting prevention program. DECA
is implemented through the use of

The Industrial Arts Club promotes
the study of the industrial arts, which
includes the use of wood, metals, tools,

subject, the purpose of Humanities is
to increase the students general
knowledge and appreciation of his
cultural heritage and to teach him about
the various liberal arts: history,
language, literature, fine arts, music,
religion, and philosophy. Humanities
students enjoy themselves while learn-
ing, though; field trips, workshops, and
class discussions lighten the workload
Humanities provides a good opportuni-
ty to study and learn and have a lot
of fun in the process.

The Paper for sale

After beginning the year at a
slow pace following the departure of
last years newspaper adviser, this
years staff was able to get the first
edition in print by late November.
The staff next underwent some
personnel changes and made a few
alterations in the newspaper. One of
the first of these was in changing the
publications name from Fire and
Brimstone to The Paper. Each issue
was headlined by The Paper in a
different language from the last
editions. All the articles and features
are headlined with the word the and
then the title, such as The Sports
or The Horoscope. The staff
members did their best to print a
good newspaper for WRHS.

two Special Awards, one to Editor
Jonathan Shippey, and one to photo

The 1981 Junior-Senior Prom, which
took place on May 9, was one of the best
in the schools history, according to the
administrators. The theme, I Made it
Through the Rain, was developed by
having clouds, raindrops, and umbrellas
hung from the lobby ceiling. After leaving
the lobby one would make it through the
rain by walking underneath the rainbow
at the gyms entrance and finding a
beautiful spring evening within. Decora-
tions inside the gym included a waterfall,
a lake with floating candles, a gazebo,
and tables ornamented with flower
arrangements and raindrop candles.
Tannhauser provided entertainment for
the prom, and among the refreshments
served was fresh boiled shrimp. All
agreed that the Class of 82 provided a
well-planned, well-produced Junior-Senior One of the fancy decorations at the prom was this lake which actually contained water and floating

Editors Message

If I had to choos
I am most proud, it
of the 82 Pioneer
workshop last June,
dedicated to getting the
so that each of the 288 page c
used. I hope you will agree that we have reached
objective

If just one person finds his memories captured
annual when he looks through it later on, then the long hours,
allll-night yearbook sessions, hard work, and frustrations will
all be worth it. I encourage everyone to take a closer look
and find what this publication can offer you personally. Enjoy
it; its yours!

One additional note: Thank you to all my friends,
specifically the Humanities class, Janelle, Bruce, and Tracey;
and to my family, especially Mom and Dad. Without all of
these people, this book would not exist

With one more look at you
I'd learn to change the stars
And change our fortunes too.
I'd have the constellations
Tracy Hunter, Randy Farmer, Donna Hunter, and ; t
Marco Zepponni share a few moments together. Paint your portrait, too.
| : So all the world might
The world could end
Each night
With one more look at you...
With one more look at you...
I Want
One More Look At You.
