Aim For A Star
Aim for a star
Never be satisfied
with a life that is less
than the best.
Failure lies only
in not having tried-
In keeping the soul
Suppressed
Aim for a star!
Look up and away,
And follow its
becking beam
Make each tomorrow
a better Today-
And dont be afraid
to dream
Aim for a star, and keep
your sights high!
With a heart full of faith
within
Your feet on the ground,
and your eyes on the sky,
Some day you are bound
to win!

As you glance through the pages of the VALHAL-

school days with fond memories. The pictures of
friends, events and teachers will become more trea-

You are fortunate to be a high school student at this
point in time. Never have the opportunities been

every teacher and administrator that each student
seize every opportunity to better himself or herself.

The 1980-81 school year has been an outstanding
one. Student achievement has reached new heights.
This is a challenge for each of us to continue to grow
by striving for excellence throughout school and life.

It is with pleasure that I take this opportunity to
congratulate the students and faculty of Northeast

another successful school term. It has not been easy
for some of you Im sure, but the stick-to-it attitude
on your part prevailed and you are all better of for it.

A special congratulations goes out to the

will be of tremendous value to you whether you go on
to college, post-secondary school, or the world of

To those of you who will be returning next year, I
strongly urge you to return with a more positive
attitude both toward yourself and toward others. If
you will do this I guarantee you that your life will be
better. May God continue to bless each of you.

HOMECOMING 81

The most natural beauty in the world is honesty and
moral truth. For all beauty is truth. True features
make the beauty of the face; true proportion, the beauty
of architure; true measures, the beauty of harmony and

The Northeast Golden Star, a monthly publication,
keeps students up-to-date on current events in school, as
well as with other local, state, and national events and
issues.

A dedicated staff, under the leadership of Scott Davis,
editor-in-chief, and Mrs. Carole B. Ford, faculty advisor,
has worked together to produce an award-winning news-
paper.

By early spring quarter, the Golden Star had received
word of three different staff awards that they had won: a
superior rating from the Southern Interscholastic
Press Association (SIPA), a first place from the Co-
lumbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA), and an
international first place from the Quill and Scroll In-
ternational Honorary Society for High School Journal-
ists.

These awards only affirmed what Northeast students
already knew: that the Golden Star should be recognized
for outstanding journalistic achievement

The 1980-81 football squad was
filled with old and new talent. The

- raiders had hopes of becoming city

champions for the first time since
the opening of the school; and with
the leadership of incoming coach,
Ken Brewer, their hopes soon
became reality.

In the opening game, the
Raiders faced Douglass of Atlanta,
one of the top teams in the state.
Northeast jumped to an early lead
as they returned the opening
kickoff for a touchdown. The
Raiders carried a substantial lead
into the locker room at halftime,
but the Atlantians came back
strong in the second half and went
on to hand the Raiders their first
loss.

The disappointing loss to
Douglass gave the Raiders a
Must Win Fever, and win they
did, as they handed the Perry
Panthers a big goose egg.

The following week, Northeast
faced the defending state champs,
Clarke-Central of Athens. Because
of a near upset last year, the
Raiders were really fired up for
this game. However, the Gladiators
had a frustrating start and finally
got their offense on the right track
as they gave Northeast loss
number two. Final score: 15-42

Northeast turned on their own
offense the following week as they
totally dominated the Peach
County Trojans. This win evened
their record at 2 and 2 going into
the region schedule.

4 took on the traditional role of being
2 true champions. They highlighted the
season by capturing the AAAA State

The Raiderettes showing little fear,
traveled down championship road
with only a few obstacles in their way.
These obstacles were Southwest and
Baldwin. The Raiderettes defeated
Southwest in the final rounds of the
Tom Porter Classic by a score of 57-52
to win their third consecutive Tom Por-
ter Classic Championship. As they trav-
eled on, their toughest obstacle, Bal-
dwin, stopped them dead in their tracks
by a defeat of 63-62. They overcame
this and later defeated Baldwin twice to
win the sub-region crown. Baldwin de-
feated the Raiderettes once again by a
score of 60-57 to win the region. But the
Raiderettes pressed forward to win the
State Championship by defeating Bal-
dwin by a score of 54-47. The Raider-
ettes overall record was 28-2. This is
their first championship since 1975.

Thanks For The Memories ...

The Valhalla Staff wishes to apologize to the Northeast family and supporters for the delay in the

We also salute those of you who were instrumental in helping us to complete a gigantic task.

A special note of thanks goes to Mrs. Kitchens of the Appling Building for the developing of
