PEOPLE REALLY STARTING TO CARE

FACULTY

HELP MAKE THE LIVING BETTER

Developing the whole student is the
main purpose of the devoted Mount de
Sales faculty. While they consider edu-
cation the primary purpose of the
school, the faculty realizes the dual im-
portance of curricular and co-curricular
interests. They foster academics to de-
velop the intellectual side of the stu-
dent, sports to develop the physical side
of the student, and club activities to de-
velop the social side of the student.
Their concern with the total devel-
opment of persons as unique individ-
uals continues to inspire many young
men and women. The faculty of Mount
de Sales justifies the reason for its exis-
tence: getting it together.

SENIORSA NEW FOREVER

The Seniors. . . a kaleidoscope of individuals bonded by four years of common
remembrance into one unit, reaching eagerly for their new tomorrow even
while holding fast to the security of yesterday. Together, they possess memo-
ries of agonizing downs and intoxicating victories. The late term paper, the
forgotten French test, the book critique that isnt yet finishedthese are mem-
ories which will never be recalled without an accompanying case of nerves. The
A in Algebra, the pepperoni pizza at Shakeys after a 49-0 football victory,
the day the chemistry experiment workedthese are memories from which the
freshness will never fade. Within their minds lies the ability to recall a smile, a
laugh, a tear. Yet there is a great expectancy within the mind of each member
of the Senior Class, a great need for independence, and a great urge to put into
practice the knowledge which they have gradually acquired during their high
school years. They have obtained the basic skills needed. They are getting on
with a new forever.

JUNIORSWORKIN

The Juniors . . . a bubbling body of enthusiasm nearing
the end of their goal. Only one more year until they take
their place as leaders of the student body. This is a year of
critical decisions, both academic and social, for the Junior
Class. College boards, the Junior-Senior prom, the Home-
coming bonfirethese are Junior responsibilities met
with good humor and exuberant spirit. Under the guid-
ance of dedicated teachers, they are acquiring the ex-
perience that will be an essential to their future life.
There were disappointments in the past, and there will be
more in the future. Yet these are outweighed by the vic-
tories, the personal satisfaction, and self-confidence that
has been obtained. Behind them are three years of living
and learning. Before them stretches a future of opportu-
nities and challenges to be met and worked out in
harmony.

A class teetering between the
recklessness of early adolescence
and the comparative maturity of
the teens, the Sophomores await
their chance at school leadership
while giving greatly of them-
selves as followers. Languages,
geometry, history, gym, biology
all crowd together in mass con-
fusion into days that seem too
short to manage. Yet somehow,
they do all that is necessary and
manage even more. School dances,
football games, class com-
petitionsnone of these could be
complete without the special
spirit of the Sophomores. Their
past experience as Freshmen
serves them well as they hunt
snakes for biology and memorize
the theorems for geometry. They

CLASS OFFICERS EXEMPLIFY LEADERSHIP

Sophomore President Sammy Deep, Vice-President John Andros, Secretary Jane Con-
ner, and Treasurer Jo Michel display their usual teamwork as they care for the class
aquarium.

The Junior Class is led by President Mark Pierce, Vice-Presi-
dent Jim Andros, Treasurer Carl Waller, and Secretary Doreen
Paulish (not pictured).

The twelve students chosen to lead the classes of
13, "74 and "75 were honored by their election.
However, they soon discovered the burdens of
being class officers. With hard work, dedication,
and capability they molded their respective
classes into a united group of individuals.

The Freshmen officers were faced with the great-
est tasks, for they had to acquaint themselves
with a new environment and new classmates be-
fore assuming added responsibilities.

More relaxed in the academic atmosphere, the
Sophomores eagerly planned and conducted spirit
weeks and other take offs from Student Council.

The Juniors, faced with the production of the Jun-

Student Council Officers: Vice-President Kit Thomas; Secretary Steve Kruger; Treasurer Joe Mo-

The most active group on campus is the Student Council. Its members are the
emissaries through which the students and administration communicate their

to subterfuge and with freedom from misunderstandings. Without the Student

THE SCHOOL SPEAKS OUT

The primary voice of any school is its
newspaper, responsible for publishing
and making known the opinions, ideas,
and creations of the students. It is a de-
manding task to put out a school publi-
cation for it is volunteer work done un-
der the pressure of deadlines. Pages
and headlines must be planned, stories
planned and written, and words
countedall done during leisure hours
after homework and other responsi-
bilities have been fulfilled. Many head-
aches attack staff members as publica-
tion days draw near. Stories are
finished, re-written, and placed on
pages, often as late as twelve or one at
night. But all is forgotteneven the
printer who forgot to print the news-
paperwhen the end result of so much
work is distributed among the
students.

WE'VE GOT SPIRIT

Exemplifying the spirit of the student
body, the varsity and subvarsity cheer-
leaders give of themselves throughout
the year. Their enthusiasm is con-
tagious as they lead cheers at the bois-
terous pep rallys and spur the Cavaliers
on to victory. Behind their exuberance
are hours of practice, beginning in the
warm days of July with preparing for
the opening football game in early Sep-
tember. These twenty girls may look
back on this year with satisfaction in
knowing their role was vital to the suc-
cess of the Cavaliers.

HOMECOMING 71-A MEMORABLE NIGHT

It was a special night for the students and
alumni of Mount de Salesa night on which
the spirit of oneness so flowed through the
people gathered at Henderson Stadiumit
was almost tangible. The roars of the crowd,
the faces of countless students contributed
to a unique feeling of togetherness, a feeling
that would long be remembered.

The night saw the fulfillment of many
dreams: the dreams of the football players
who kept intact the record string of vic-
tories; the dream of the five girls nominated
for queen who lived through the suspenseful
moments; the dream of the Seniors, who
wished to make this, their last homecoming
as Mount de Sales students the most memo-
rable event of their high school years.

As the reality of this event faded into mem-
ory, the entire student body became aware
of the advancing drift of time as it contin-
ued in its never-ending motion.

A roaring fire helps heat the spirits of de Sales students.

M.D.S. BASKETBALL SCORES

Mount de Sales moves in court ready to scramble for the ball.

Stalling for time, Viviani dribbles to the front of the court. Out-maneuvering the big man, Chris Jaindl grabs the rebound.

The return of ten lettermen was the main factor in making this years varsity squad the group it was. A great
team effort combined with the fine coaching ability of Mike Burdette led the Cavaliers to an excellent season of
basketball. Good shooting and rebounding were some of the key characteristics enabling the cagers to over-

come their opponents on the courts.

In the short period of time allotted to them, this group of boys worked together under their Coach to unify
themselves into a basketball team of superior quality. Overcoming hardships and sticking to the routine of
practice improved the squad as could be seen in every appearance on the courts. This continued improvement
ended in an excellent record for this teams endeavor.

Through good times and bad times, the support of everyone involved kept the boys outlook hopeful toward a
victorious season. It is this type that exemplifies the sportsmanship of Mount de Sales as we know it at its best.

the Lady Cavaliers
again came to the
courts with the poten-
tial to be winners.

With the guidance of
Coach Mike Garvin, the
girls displayed basket-
ball wizardry that en-
abled them to overcome
a majority of their op-
ponents. Their agility,
speed, and shooting
ability made it clear
that they should be
number one.

With the support of
cheerleaders, fans, and
students, the team
gained a momentum
necessary to end this
year with a winning
streak. It is no wonder
that were proud of
their sportsmanship.

Down the court with a group of followers, Lynn drives to score two points for the Lady Cavaliers.

First row: Elizabeth Ryder, Anita Lott, Susan Zaenglein, Jenny Bass; Second row: Sharon Zaenglein, Mgr., Peggy McAfee, Lynn Acey,
Joanna Micha, Lynn Neal, Coach Michael Garvin; Third row: Peggy Considine, Elizabeth Proctor, Linda Brantley, Nina Benedetto.

A little advice from the sidelines comes from Coach Garvin to the Lady Cavaliers.
