THE BRIDGE

Macon County High School
Montezuma, Georgia
Volume XI 1970

Foreword

We, the Seniors of 1970, present in this book the story of our growth and development through the
years and a pictorial account of our senior year. For us, editing the 70 BRIDGE has been a pleasure and we

hope that you will get as much pleasure reading it.

Eighteen years ago we started our long, long journey toward adulthood. Now that we are nearing ou
goal we hope that we have made some imprint on the lives of others with whom we have come in contact.
We hope and trust that we, departing, leave behind us/ Footprints in the sand of time.

Dedication

We, the Senior Class of Macon County High School, dedicate
the 1970 BRIDGE to
JAMES EARL STINSON

who has earned our love and respect by contributing years of useful service to us and
hundreds of other young people of Macon County.

Mr. Stinson came to Macon County to teach Vocational Agriculture in 1951, the year
that most of us Seniors were born. He saw us enter the first grade, he watched us through
elementary and junior high school, and he taught us and teased us through high school.
Now we are graduating and Mr. Stinson is retiring and things will no longer be the same
around Macon County High School.

Of course, there will be another Senior Class and another and another but there will
never be another Mr. Stinson.

I knew that coaching was the
best racket, but I got in the
wrong line when I went to
register at the University.

A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

A good education is the most important asset that a young person growing up in todays world can
acquire. Education and know-how are essential in the competitive life that the present day individual
lives.

The students and faculty of Macon County High School are a credit to their county, not only in
academic and vocational achievement of the students but also in sportsman-like conduct by both
participants and fans in athletic contests. The most important factor in determining the quality of
education is the degree of local support of the school program. Macon County High School will
continue to improve as long as the citizens of the community are willing to make sacrifices in its behalf
as they have done in the past.

DOES SO MUCH COSTS SO LITTLE

The world today is looking for men who are not for sale; men who are honest, sound from
centre to circumference, true to the hearts core; men with consciences as steady
the pole; men who will stand for the right if the heavens totter and the earth re
tell the truth and look the world right in the eye;

Men who neither brag nor run; men who neither lag nor flinch: men who can have

without shouting it; men in whom the courage of everlasting life runs still, deep, and strong; men

who know their message and tell it;

Men who know their place and fill it; men who know their business and attend to it; men who
will not lie, shirk or dodge; men who are not too lazy to work nor too proud to be poor; men who
are willing to eat what they have earned and wear what they have paid for;

Men who are not ashamed to say No with emphasis and who are not ashamed to say, I can

afford it.

As we and the other members of the Class of 70, who were not lucky enough to be with us on this fun day,

leave Macon County High School, we want to thank all of you, parents, patrons, teachers, and students, for all the

many things you have done for us in the past twelve years. We sincerely hope that as we mature, we will be able to

help those who follow us, as we have been helped by others.

Let us all work together to have peace and a good life at home and abroad.

The Seniors of 1970
