On Septenber 3, 1936 ths freshmen of 1955--36 were
proud to become sophcmores an preuder still to begin a
new school year in the nev Suilding. We started out as
the smallest class in Hien School and still romain so.

we wore boginnins to think, howevor, that we were
a class without a toacher or room beccuse of all the
changos to be made they wore alvays mad3 on us. Je first
occupicd the present science rcom ard our home room tcach-
cr was Mr. Pulliam. Aftcrwarda we worc moved to tho pre-
sent ninth grado room. Thoy thon tock Mr. Pulliam and
gavo us Miss Louiso Young for a homo room teacher. This
was Miss Young's first yoar of to2aching but she soon found
out that thosc who appeared to bo such holy torrors, John
Hawkins, Clayton Kitchens, and Alvin Tucker were just
"bluffs" and although they worc pretty apt tp pop up at any
time with such drv nonsonso that oven tho tcachor would
ave to laugh, they could bo good students and give no
trouble if they liked thcoir tcachor. So we had no troublec.

During the yoar wo have hed miny intoresting socials.
Our first was a Christmas party at the Club houso and amid
the fun and gaioty of the party the stove politoly gave
way and coll -psed filling tho room with smoko and ruining
suits and dresscs. This broke up tho party.

Our sccond pirty was at tho home of Mrric Grecno where
wo danced and promed. Our last partics woro at the homo
of Mobloy Gamblc and John Hrvkins nd at Maudlyn Jowctt's.

The girls' basketball tcam was vory successful this
soason, ovon though luck turned against thom as they near-
ed the ond of the tournament in Wrightsvillo.

Coach Charles had a good strong tcam this season;
ono of the best that has cvor ropresentod Gray High School.
Whon his girls won a game it didn't mcan that they quit
trying. It only made thom work hardor to win the noxt onc.
Whon thoy lost thoy took it like true and good sports.
