- Description:
- Oliver Stevens (1783-1853) was born in New Hampshire but moved to Liberty County, Georgia, as a young man. Oliver first taught school and then became a planter, for which he was not tempermentally suited. In 1806 he married Eliza Sumner Winn (1790-1872). They had three daughters and six sons who reached maturity and three of the sons became ministers. In the photo they are holding a letter from their son, Edward Ariel Stevens, D.D, who spent 50 years in Burma doing missionary work from 1837 until his death there in 1886. Edward was buried in Ragoon, Burma.
