Marcus Favorite Saying:
You Already Know
Everybody Dont Think Like You Mama
Marcus Trevon Baker was born October 9, 1979 to Delores Poner-Sears and Barry
Donovan Baker in Claxton, Georgia. Marcus was a very bright, sweet, intuitive child never
getting into any trouble and he had a passion for life. He enjoyed spending summers at his
grandmother's house playing with his brothers, sister, and many cousins. He had a love for
music, art, dance, played football in grade school and had a strong passion for the Lord. At
the age of 7 he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He was anointed with
many spiritual gifts and had a call on his life to preach the Word of God. He became very
active in his church, the youth ministry, youth choir, and the youth pastoral ministry. He
preached his first trial sermon at the age of 12, where he led many people to the Lord. Marcus
continued to preach the Word of God throughout his youth into early childhood.
While Marcus was very active in his church, he was also very active in high school. He was
in graphic art design class, ran track, and joined the band. It is during this time that he fell
in love with the trumpet. His favorite song to play on the trumpet was "Sweet Love" by Anita
Baker. He was later afforded the opportunity to play "Sweet Love" live on the radio in Atlanta,
Georgia.
After high school, while residing in Atlanta, Georgia he attended American
Intercontinental University where he studied Graphic Art Design and business. By the age of
22 Marcus had fallen in love and married his now ex-wife Lisa Samuel. There was a time when
Marcus went through some things that caused him to stray away from the Lord. But as the
scripture says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart
from it." Marcus rededicated his life to God and continued to lead many people to the Lord
throughout the remainder of his life.
Marcus was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles D. Porter and Pearlie
Mae Porter, his paternal grandfather, Levone Baker, and his cousin Octavious Lamont Porter.
He leaves in loving memory of him his mother Delores-Porter Sears, his father Barry (Barbara)
Baker, three brothers, Maurice Brooks Baker, Michael Ashley Carlyle, and Barry Baker, Jr.;
three sisters, April Dawn Sears, Banecia Baker and Daphanie (Herman) Williams; paternal
grandmother Nita Bell Baker, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning to the end.
He noted that first came the date of her birth and spoke of the following date with tears.
But he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth
And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own, the cars, the house, the cash.
What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard; are there things youd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough to consider whats tru and real
And always try to understand the way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger and show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives like weve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile.
Remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.
So when your eulogy is being read with your lifes actions to rehash
Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash?
