Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Mrs. Carrie Hagan Clark was born October 11, 1919 in Evans County, Georgia to the
late Peter A. Hagan and Maggie M. Bacon Hagan. She departed this life March 21, 2013
at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Georgia after a long illness.
At an early age she joined the now Historic Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, and
remained a member for 80+ years until her death. She was invited to join the usher board
in the mid 1960s where she diligently served for over 30 years until she was too ill with
Alzheimers disease. Service to the church was important to her. However, she felt that
you also served God through caring for the sick, elderly and unfortunate persons within
yout family and community.
She graduated from the Evans County Training School. She was united in holy matri-
mony to the late James Kermit Clark On November 22, 1942. Five children were born
to this union; two daughters (Kermetta Carolyn and Jenefer Loretta), and three sons
(Roosevelt Kermit, Thernell Sanford and the late Charles Lindsey.
Carrie worked briefly as a substitute teacher at the two-room school provided for Black
students by the James T. Clark family. In later years she also worked at the local garment
factory, chicken factory and provided childcare service for family. She worked alongside
her family on the farm providing leadership and labor for planting, growing and harvest-
ing crops, as well as vegetables and fruits. She opened their home to anyone in need, as
long as they didnt smoke cigarettes or drink alcoholic beverages inside. She welcomed
the childten of friend as well as foe. She never said that thete was not enough to feed all
-she merely served all she had to anyone who wanted to eat. She was a very diligent
member of the PTA and served as a delegate to several conferences representing the school.
She was present or arrived shortly thereafter for the birth of each of her grandchildren.
She was a nursemaid to many over the years in their hour of need -including her husband,
her mother, two sisters and mother-in-law.
She leaves behind to mourn her passing and to cherish her memories; four children, Mrs.
Kermetta C. Shipman, JD (Rev. James C.) of Midway, GA, Roosevelt K. Clark (the late
Pauline A.) of Claxton, Thernell S. Clark (LaVond) of Atlanta, Jenefer L. Ford (the late
Craig A)of Chicago; one brother Deacon Booker T. Hagan (Avis) of Claxton, but
ptesently presiding in Atlanta; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Oglesby of Claxton, and Mrs.
Minnie Bryant (Lorenzo) of Savannah; eleven grandchildren,Charles Clark of Atlanta,
Rodney Clark (Tracey) of Conyers, GA, Graig A. Ford, Jr. (Evelyn) of Chicago, Julian
O. Ford (Charlotte) of Chicago, Yuri Ford-Brownlowe of Woodstock, GA, Thernell
Clark, Jr. of Atlanta, Shaneen Fannin (Kareem) of Atlanta, Michael L. Clark (Laurielle)
of Brooklyn, NY, Gregory Clark (Sherice) of Bowie, MD, Jeretta Holland (Van) of Union,
NJ, Vivienne Neal, PhD of Savannah, the late Lloyd Bennett Shipman, II; nineteen great-
grand children; one great great-grandchild and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins
and friends.
God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you
and whispered,
"Come to Me"
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A Golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best
