OBITUARY
Sister Lillian Ophelia Bradley Morgan Mattox died
Friday, January 6, 1984, following a brief illness, at the
Claxton - Evans Memorial Hospital.
A native of Tattnall County, Georgia, Sister Mattox was
one of six children born to the late Mary Ann Kennedy
Bradley and Isreal Bradley, Sr., September 30, 1897.
Sister Mattox was joined in Holy Matrimony to Brother
Margrio Riley Morgan in Savannah, Georgia, on June 11,
1917. Four children two daughters, Thelma, Margarette
Paulyne, and two sons Therman and Herman, were born
to this union.
Sister Mattox attended Tattnall County Public Schools
and taught primary grades for many years.
At an early age. Sister Mattox joined the Oak Grove
AME Church where she served faithfully as secretary of the
Sunday School, as a Sunday School teacher, served on several
boards as well as a Steward for many, many years. She later
affiliated with Thomas Grove AME Church and lived
unselfishly throughout her life, loving, caring for others and
sharing.
In 1942, she was wed to Willie Mattox and to this union,
one daughter, Altamesa LaVerne Mattox, was born.
Those who survive and mourn her death are: a husband,
Willie L. Mattox, Claxton; two daughters, Altamesa LaVerne
M. Welch, Savannah, Georgia, and M. Paulyne Morgan
White, Atlanta, Georgia: two sons-in-law, Lawrence Welch,
Jr., and Frank White, Jr., Atlanta, Georgia; one aunt, Nettie
Morgan Lofton, Savannah, Georgia: sisters-in-law, Frankie
Mae Conner and Inez Mattox, both of Trenton, N.J., Olivia
Morgan, Stuart, Florida, and Emma Morgan Smith,
Savannah, Ga.; one brother-in-law, Elmer Mattox, Trenton,
N. J.; nephews, James Morgan, West Palm Beach, Florida,
Robert C. Morgan, Sr., Collins, Georgia, and Curtis Booker,
N.J.; nieces, Ethel Morgan, Collins, Georgia, Laira
Josephine Morgan Mitchell, Miami, Florida, Marietta
Booker, the Kennedy, Bradley, Jackson, Mincey and Smiley
families, and a host of other family and friends.
