Silently he suffered.
With patience he bore;
Until God called him home.
To suffer no more.
Rev. Emele M. Solomon, age 88, of Thompson Street Extension, Vidalia,
Georgia, died Monday evening, June 8, 1981, after an extended illness. A native
of Baldwin County, he had resided in Vidalia for the past 36 years. He was one
of eight children born to the late Dorsey Solomon and Nellie Sylvia Solamon.
While living in Baldwin County, he joined the Popular Spring Baptist Church in
1904. Emele was joined in Holy Matrimony to Carrie McLendon of Laurens
County in 1917, and to this union three sons were born.
For several years Rev. Solomon lived in Laurens County, where he begin
his ministry in 1916. His first pastorate was in Treutlen county In 1919 with the
Jordon Hill Baptist Church, which he was instrumental in organizing. Other
pastorates include; five years with Lovely Hill Baptist Church in Treutlen County; a
total of nine years with Adam Hill, Buffalo Baptist, and Bell Baptist, all of
Montgomery County; St. Paul in Cochran for 18 years; Mt. Pleasant of Claxton
for 38 years; Mt. Moriah in Manassas for 42 years and 49 years with Solomon
Tabernaclde, previously Hope Well Baptist.
Additionally, Rev. Solomon served as Moderator of the Star Light Baptist
Association, Vice Moderator and Moderator of the Oconee Zion Association for
47 years, and was an affiliate with the Tattnall County Baptist Association. Also,
he was a member of Mt. Hored Masonic Lodge No. 114, the gministerial Alliance,
the WMBS and organizer of the Ushers' Union.
Emele Solomon pursued his religious tudies and received certification with
the American Bibh Theological Seminary of Nashville, Tennessee, through the
Vidalia Extension Uni;
Survivors induce three sons: Rev. Felton Solomon of Vidalia; Joseph
Solomon and Dorsey Solomon, both of Atlanta; three daughters-in-law: Mrs.
Leola Solomon of Vidalia, Mrs. Mattie Solomon and Mrs. Lena Solomon, both of
Atlanta; three sisters: Mrs. Ethel Brown of Braddy, Fla.; Mrs. Gertrude Collins and
Mrs. Polly Rushin of Milledgeville; two brothers-in-law: Charlie Brown and Mark
McLendon Sr. of Montgomery County; a devoted niece: Mrs. Nellie S. Bailey of
Vidalia; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grand-children; two greatgreatgrand-
children; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
Farewell the maze has been treaded.
This is the ending of strife;
Say not that death should be dreaded
T/s but the beginning of life.
To some he may be forgotten.
And become a part of the past;
To us who loved and lost him
His memories will always last.
