OBITUARY
O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing
He speaks and list-ning to his voice,
New life the dead received.
The mournful, broken hearts rejoice.
The humble poor believe.
Reverend John Wesly Teal, the son of Mr. John and Mary
Teal was born February 6, 1906 in Marion County, Georgia.
After a long malady, he departed this life, Sunday, November
17, 1974.
Converted at an early age. Rev. Teal accepted the devine
call at the age of 28. Adhering to the doctrines of the
African Methodist Episcopal Church, he became a faithful
minister of Christ. Services given to the A.M.E. Church
during his terrestial existence is unlimited. For forty years
he gave unrelenting service to this religious organization. In
addition to being acclaimed as a feverent teacher of Christ-
ianity, he is also noted for the construction of many spiritual
institutions. Among those built and renovated under his
pastorship are, Thomas Grove A.M.E., Claxton, Ga.; St. John
A.M.E., Pembroke, Ga.; Bethel A.M.E., Reidsville, Ga.; St.
Luke A.M.E., Lyons, Ga., etc. Areas ministered by him dur-
ing his life time are Macon Conference, Byron Circuit, Sugar
Hill Forsyth District, Warren Chapel, Milledgeville, Ga.; The
Swainsboro-Vidalia District, etc. He retired from the min-
istry, but not from God, May 31, 1974.
His family life includes a marriage to Miss Tommie Lee
Hardie. During this union five children were born. They
lived together faithfully until her death.
In 1972 Rev. Teal re-entered the bonds of holy matrimony
with Mrs. Willie Glover Teal. They lived together faithfully
until his death.
He leaves to mourn a devoted wife, Mrs. Willie Glover
Teal; five sons, Edward Teal, Indianapolis, Ind.; William
Teal, Macon, Ga.; Isaac Teal, Columbus, Ga., Herbert Teal,
Macon, Ga.; Otis Glover H, Claxton, Ga.; four daughters,
Mrs. Mattie Worthy, Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Louise Wil-
liams, Mrs. Martha Lane, Ms. Sheraland Glover, all of New
Rochelle, N. Y.; two brothers, Willie Teal and Elbert Teal of
Macon, Ga.; and one sister, Mrs. Fannie Washington. He
also leaves to mourn 25 grandchildren and a host of relatives
and friends.
We believe that many souls were saved from the gospel
preaching of Rev. Teal; furthermore, his Christian contri-
butions will continue to live.
Hear him ye deaf, his praise ye dumb, your loosened
tongues employ.
Ye blind behold your Savior came, and leap ye lame for
joy.
