September 19-21, 2012 Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center
Augusta, Georgia
WELCOME TO THE THIRTEENTH ANNUAL GEORGIA SUMMIT CONFERENCE
It's my pleasure to welcome you to Augusta for the 13th annual Georgia Summit Conference of the University System of Georgia (USG). Each year, I look forward to Georgia Summit and I hope you do as well. If this is your first time attending, it's a great opportunity for you to meet face-to-face and with your colleagues from other institutions, Information Technology Services (ITS), and the University System Office (USO).
There are a lot of great changes taking place within the USG, and ITS is aligning its efforts with the Chancellor's priorities and USG initiatives of campus consolidation, Complete College Georgia, data-driven decision making, space utilization, and distance education. ITS will update its strategic plan, in partnership with the institutions and the USO, to align with these priorities. I am excited about these priorities and their potential to transform higher education in Georgia at a fundamental level.
The principal challenge we face is working as a system while retaining institution choice and agility in responding to local constituent needs. During the next three days, take advantage of this time to share ideas and find solutions to common issues. This interaction helps to foster and develop communities of practice. And after this conference ends, you can use the available social collaboration tools so that together we can work innovatively and collaboratively to implement the Chancellor's vision to enhance the USG.
We are fortunate to work in a system that is looking critically at how we educate and inspire the future leaders of Georgia. Thank you for all that you do to enable the success of the USG, and enjoy Georgia Summit!
Sincerely,
Curtis A. Carver Jr., Ph.D. Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia Information Technology Services
Welcome to Augusta and the 13th annual Georgia Summit Conference of the University System of Georgia (USG). It's my pleasure to welcome you, and as always, we're glad that you're here.
The Georgia Summit conference is designed for academic and administrative application users and offers stimulating opportunities to share and exchange ideas with the USG staff who provide multiple services for students, faculty and others throughout the System through their work including Student Information and Financial Aid Systems, USG Data Warehouse, Distance Education, Learning Management System, Shared Services and the Financials System applications.
Georgia Summit enables attendees to learn what our colleagues on other campuses are doing, discuss common issues and experiences and share creative solutions. In addition to the preconference workshops, the presentations, demonstrations, discussions, exhibits, birds-of-a-feather sessions and social networking opportunities will encourage interaction and promote professional growth.
This year's keynote speaker is Sheila L. Margolis, Ph.D., president of the Workplace Culture Institute. Dr. Margolis' keynote address is "Making a Difference: Seeing the Big Picture and Your Role in It." Margolis will discuss how seeing the big picture can help you understand the value you provide through your work, and discover how to increase that value so you and your organization thrive.
The success of Georgia Summit relies on your generosity and desire to engage with your colleagues and take advantage of this professional development opportunity. I appreciate you sharing your time and expertise as presenters, moderators and participants.
I'd like to thank the strategic partners who sponsor Georgia Summit. Their generous contributions and support are essential to the ongoing success of this conference.
Thank you all for making Georgia Summit 2012 a success!
Sincerely,
Marie Steed Executive Director, IT Services Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia Information Technology Services

Introduction to Data Warehousing
The cornerstone of a Business Intelligence program is having a centralized, conformed, and time-variant data warehouse from which to access data. This introductory workshop establishes common definitions for the numerous buzz words that exist in the data warehousing space, and what non-technical things need to be in place to be successful. From there we discuss the difference between OLTP (source systems), Operational Data Stores, and data warehouses. The workshop ends with how to use a data warehouse for reporting.

Online enrollments increased 832% from 2001 to 2009 and have continued to grow. As enrollments have increased, so have the number of federal regulations, policies, and accreditation guidelines. Online education goes well beyond one office and requires a campus commitment to compliance, academic excellence, and student success. This session discusses critical regulations and policies relating to the US Department of Education, Program Integrity Rules, SACS accreditation, and Section 508. Course Revision: Project Management within the LMS The Curriculum and Instruction team at the University of West Georgia recognized the need to begin a cycle of revisions for the 24 online courses offered by USG eCore. An initial challenge was finding a secure space to collaborate and share information for course improvement. The secondary challenge was turning the gathered information and finished products into Web and LMS compatible formats in a small window of time. The solution was to correspond and manipulate course information from within the LMS. This method proved to be valuable in archiving interactions, managing time, and creating a workable course for immediate copy.

Building a Foundation Rather than an Umbrella: The Valdosta State University College of Education Center for Online Teaching & Learning In 2011, the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education created the Center for Online Teaching & Learning to support the growing community of online learners created by the 2008 introduction of collaborative graduate education programs. This created tremendous growth in enrollment, spurred faculty and student interest in online learning, and encouraged development of new online programs. We focus on identified needs, implementation, best practices, challenges and missteps, and future plans as the Center builds a foundation to serve faculty, students, and administrators, promote focused training, and encourage innovation and creativity in instructional technology.

Actionable Intelligence: Data Alone Is Not Enough
Complete College Georgia has tasked schools to increase academic success and graduation rates. The traditional approach often identified students approaching academic failure too late. Using technology, we have the opportunity to provide proactive support and advising. An enterprise data warehouse can provide an abundance of metrics and data. Wednesday, September 19, 2012 8 p.m.
Oglethorpe Ballroom
It's the late 70s and the Cold War is in deep freeze. Two rival tech companies are fighting for a new military contract to produce a device to talk to anyone anytime anywhere. The loser puts their secret up for sale, and everyone from governments down to street hoods wants it. Spies and double agents covertly struggle while the media exposes an ambassador's affair with a general's wife and a dead bellhop is found in his limo. Everyone's on a mission, but who will succeed first?
What's more fun than solving a mystery? Being PART of one! Representing a character in the story, teams of players at their dinner tables are given clues from which they must figure out WHO did the crime, HOW they did it, and WHY! The culprit lurks among you, so watch out for an escape attempt! There are even poisonous clues, but don't worry! You'll have the Cluemaster to guide you through this hour of fun.
Present Your Green Tokens for Beverages
Sign up to participate in this interactive theater event at the conference registration table when you register or anytime during Wednesday's sessions. No acting necessary, unless the mood or pose strikes you!
