UNIVERSITY SYSTEM OF GEORGIA
f -" - 1 I Solutions Through Teamwork

bnngmg together users of all University System softwar-e applications

to provide exceptional campus services!

Welcome to the Fifth Annual Georgia Summit Conference!!!!
This year's Georgia Summit 2002 conference scope has been expanded to include users and support staff for all administrative software application systems including Banner Student and Financial Aid, Facilities, PeopleSoft HRMS and Financials, Faculty Information System (FIS) and the new Data Warehouse (USG by the Numbers).
This conference is a unique professional development opportunity for staff across the state. The opportunity to network with colleagues, learn from each other's experiences, and come together to develop common solutions to common problems is extraordinary. We are truly lucky to have the wealth of internal talent within Georgia and the benefits of sharing it in this fashion truly prove the old adage "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts".
Thank you for your willingness to participate in this important event. Your contributions as session leaders, moderators, facilitators, and participants in giving each other and the System Office feedback and advice are essential to the collective success in using the endorsed administrative applications to provide the best service to students, faculty and staff.
We appreciate very much the sponsorship of the many participating corporations for their contributions for this year's conference. We would like to extend a special thanks to our General Conference Sponsors: SCT, Nolij, Campus Pipeline and PeopleSoft.
Sincerely and with warmest regards,
Beth Brigdon Assistant Vice Chancellor Enterprise Systems & Services

KEYNOTE ADDRESS Featuring
Erskine "Erk" Russell
Retired Georgia Southern Football Coach
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Russell holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Auburn University. He played football, basketball, baseball and tennis for the Tigers, earning 10 varsity letters. Russell was the last four-sport letterman in Auburn history.
In his 17 years as the University of Georgia defensive coordinator, Russell molded some of the nation's finest defensive teams, and his Junkyard Dogs of 1975 are synonymous with Bulldog football. His 1986 squad led the nation in scoring, total offense, and rushing offense. When Georgia Southern brought football back following a long absence that began with World War II, the school relied on Russell to build the football program. He started entirely with walk-on players who achieved a record of 13-8-1 while playing as a "club" team. Russell put together an extraordinary offense for the Eagles that resulted in numerous national championship game appearances and back-to-back national championships. In 1989, Russell was America's "winningest" coach with two National Championships and 55 wins during a five-year period.
The honors and awards Russell has received are too numerous to mention all of them, but highlights include
l 984 - through 1986 Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Coach-of-the-Year l 987 - inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame 1989 - USA Today's Georgia Coach-of-the-Year 1989 - Coach-of-the-Decade 1989 - Chevrolet - CBS Sports I-AA Coach-of-the-Year 1996 - Olympic Torch Bearer
As the keynote speaker at Georgia Summit, Russell will apply his knowledge, experience, and expertise in creating exemplary teams to the conference's mission of "Solutions Through Teamwork."

PLENARY SESSION: Beyond the Technological and Functional, Organizing the Campus for Banner Success
ROSEMARY DEPAOLA & J1M WOLFGANG, GEORGIA COLLEGE & STATE UNIVERSITY
Although Banner started at most campuses as a technical project, institutional organization has advanced to a shared technical and functional leadership model. For success, these and other campus factors must be addressed.

Security - It's Not Just an IT Problem
DOUG HURLEY, GARTNER
We live in a world without secrets - a world in which virtually all information can be and is shared. Every enterprise is vulnerable. As never before, security has become the business of every part of the institution. Relationships with students, faculty, alumni, business partners, the local community, and the government can be distressingly and irreparably changed. Success depends on the ability to survive and prevail in the event of catastrophe. What does this mean for your institution? Is your institution resilient? Can it withstand a disruption, let alone a catastrophe? For too long, higher education has relegated risk management, business continuity planning, disaster recovery, and security management to a low-level status in the IT strategic planning process. In the postSept. 11 world, this has to change. Even though 2002 -2004 will be a lean budget period, academic institutions are strengthening and refocusing attention on security. What are some of the threats and opportunities for planning and securing the campus in the coming year? Should we establish a more rigorous 'social contract" that attaches user responsibilities to rights? We'll look at these, and other security issues and responsibilities on campus, in the context of some specific steps your institution should take to survive in a world without secrets.

BOXED LUNCH/PLENARY SESSION: Where's the Beef? Finding the Real Value in Your Technology Investments
DouG HuRLEY, GARTNER
So ... you've been working on ERP projects for more than 8 years now. And you finally have the core system components installed and operational across the 34 campuses. Implementing new systems is hard work and expensive, stretching over months and years. Though they may have been aware that new systems were coming, much of your hard work generally has gone unseen by the real beneficiaries of these investments - your clients and customers. Good news: the hard part is over! Now comes the fun part. For the .first time, you have the systems infrastructure and tools with which to make a difference - not just in your internal business functions, but more importantly in services to your clients and customers. The challenge for every business officer and department head iswhere and how to find the business value and payoff from your technology investments. Drawing upon Gartner's extensive interactions with more than 300 leading institutions around the world, we'll look at some of the value points and ways to channel efforts to really deliver on the promises and expectations that have built up over the last 8 years for the Georgia Board of Regents System.
