Welcome! District One serves 21 counties in Northeast Georgia; from the urban areas of Gwinnett County and north through Forsyth County, through the mountains counties of Lumpkin and Union to the state line. The District works east from Gwinnett through Barrow, Clarke, Oconee and Elbert counties to the state line and covers the upper right hand corner of the state.
We are responsible for 2,300 centerline miles of state routes and 109 centerline miles of interstate and a total of 5,774 lane miles. We have 28 lane miles of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes in Gwinnett County. We maintain 748 bridges and work with 12 local airports and three transit systems.
To get to Athens, you used some of our recently completed success stories! The reconstruction of Interstate 85 at State Route 316 and HOV lane extension project in Gwinnett County was completed more than 2 months ahead of its completion date December 31, 2008. This $155 million project has improved traffic flow, congestion and safety. Peak hour speeds have increased as each portion of the project opened to traffic.
The widening of US 129/State Route 11 from I-85 to Athens is now complete. Two separate projects were built -- one by Pittman Construction and one by Merritt Contracting. Both projects finished ahead of their completion dates. The new four lane divided route directs traffic straight into Athens. In fact, the four laning of US 129 does not stop at I-85; it then follows the Pendergrass Bypass towards Gainesville.
District One is on the move and improving mobility in our region. In fiscal year 2008, our District paid out over $305 million for construction projects. We completed two widening projects in Jackson County on US 441/SR 15. A third project was completed in Rabun County on the US 441/SR 15 Corridor. These three projects gave us over 23 new centerline miles and 92 new lane miles of US 441.
Major arterials saw improvements too. State Route 120 in Gwinnett had a two lane section that is now a four lane divided highway; completing the widening of SR 120 from I-85 to SR 316.
We are working throughout our District to keep you moving. Take the time to notice our recently completed work and enjoy your visit to District One. Sincerely,
Russell R. McMurry, P.E. District Engineer

Welcome! District Five covers a 24-county region in the southeastern part of the state. The District Office is located in Jesup, and there are six Area Offices that are located in Baxley, Waycross, Brunswick, Glennville, Savannah, and Statesboro. There are over 2,700 miles of state routes and interstates within the District, and over 1,000 bridge structures. We share a border with South Carolina to the north, and Florida to the south. Two of the fastest growing ports in the country, Savannah and Brunswick, are located in District Five. There are also three military bases: Fort Stewart in Hinesville, Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah, and Kings Bay in St. Marys. During FY08, over $75 million worth of contracts were let for District Five projects. Also during that fiscal year, nearly $274 million was spent out on construction projects. Currently, the District has over $1.6 billion under contract.

Welcome to the 2008 GPTQ Conference from all the employees of District Seven! District Seven provides the citizens of Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton and Rockdale counties with a safe, well-maintained and effective transportation system.
As the GDOT Metro Atlanta District, we face a unique set of challenges that require our employees to creatively manage our transportation infrastructure within a rapidly growing urban center, as well as the relatively rural areas on the fringes of the District. In fulfilling the Department's Mission, our employees work hard to provide the best service to the nearly 2.5 million people that reside within the District limits, along with the hundreds of thousands who travel through our area on a daily basis.
Within District Seven, there are over 2800 state route lane miles, 1700 interstate lane miles, 611 bridges and over 20,000 off-system road miles. This translates to having more than 5.3 million vehicle miles traveled each day on these routes. Within our six counties, there are 43 city governments and municipalities. Our District team, along with our contractors, consultants, government officials and other partners, must work hard to keep up with the growth and economic development in the Atlanta area so that our residents and visitors will have a positive transportation experience. Our committed and accountable employees take great pride in their work and are excited as we move the metro area into a new era of quality transportation. We hope you enjoy the conference!
