-, How It Works.
You may receive HOPE assistance ifyou enroll at an eligible Georgia public technical institute. The HOPE Grant is awarded for study leading to a certificate or diploma. Many technical institutes offer two-year degree programs as well. The HOPE Scholarship is awarded to students in degree programs, who must meet different qualifications than students earning a certificate or diploma.
The HOPE Grant:
Georgia residents who are attending a Georgia public technical institute to earn a certificate or diploma are eligible for a HOPE Grant regardless of high school graduation date or grade average.
You may receive the HOPE Grant for two programs of study leading to a certificate or diploma.
Full-time enrollment is not required, but you must be making satisfactory academic progress to maintain eligibility. You are not required to maintain a "B" average to renew your HOPE Grant.
HOPE Grant Awards:
The HOPE Grant covers tuition, HOPEapproved mandatory fees, and a book allowance of up to $100 per quarter.
NOTE: HOPEfunds may be applied only to tuition and mandatoryfees not covered by Pell or other Federal grants received.
The HOPE Scholarship for Recent High School Graduates:
Ifyou are a recent high school graduate and wish to receive the HOPE Scholarship for a degree program at a technical institute, you must meet the same qualifications as a student
seeking a degree at one ofGeorgia's public colleges or universities. To be eligible as a firstyear student, you must:
Be a legal resident ofGeorgia.
Be a 1993 or later graduate of an eligible high school.
Earn a "B" average in high school (a 3.0 cumulativegradepointaverage on a 4. 0scale, or 80 numericgrade average, meeting the collegepreparatory track; ifyou are in the technical curriculum track, you must have a 3.2 cumulative grade point average on a 4. 0 scale, or 85 numericgrade average, meeting the curriculum requirements).
Students who graduate from high school in the year 2000 and thereafter will be required to earn a "B" average in their core-curriculum subjects. Students must also graduate meeting the curriculum requirements in their program ofstudy. Check with your high school guidance counselor for more information on the corecurriculum requirements.
The HOPE Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students:

Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program: A History
Governor Zell Miller founded Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program in September 1993. Governor Miller, a college professor and two-term Governor (1991-99), created HOPE
to increase academic achievement, keep Georgia's best and brightest students in
Georgia, and expand educational opportunities beyond high school
to all Georgians. Funded entirely by the Georgia Lottery, more
than 378,000 Georgia students have earned HOPE Scholarships in the past six years, including 182,600 students who enrolled in Georgia's 33 public technical institutes.
