WARREN COUNTY SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT
FISCAL YEAR 2009 ANNUAL REPORT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
1. The District, in conjunction with Central Savannah RC&D, promoted the No-Till Assistance Program in the county.
2. The District distributed Soil Stewardship materials to schools and also to the library in Warren County.
3. The District actively supported and promoted the Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program. One project for $5,000 on 100 acres was completed for a Partners for Fish & Wildlife project that would exclude livestock from water bodies and create riparian/wildlife buffers.
4. The District supported the NACD, GACDS and RC&D by paying dues.
5. Annual maintenance inspections were made of all four watershed structures in the District.
6. The District actively promoted its Affiliate Member Program.
7. The District, along with McDuffie County SWCD, held its annual Conservationist of the Year Program in Thomson on October 9th. Approximately 65 people attended the event at which Hugh Hamilton of Telfair Plantation was recognized for work in protecting the area's natural resources.
8. The District participated in the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) by adopting priorities and by reviewing and making recommendations on final approval of applications for funds.
9. The District continued the strong working relationship it has had with the State Soil & Water Conservation Commission, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Cooperative Extension Service, and the Central Savannah River RC&D.
10. The district reviewed Erosion and Sediment Control plans for local governments. Submitted plans were discussed at monthly meetings and were approved if complete and if they satisfied all criteria for erosion control.
11. The District promoted the WINGS program and the Grazing Lands Conservation Coalition program and encouraged local landowners to sign up to participate in the programs.
12. The District reviewed its Working Agreement with the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
13. The District promoted the Georgia Museum of Survey in Mapping on Main Street in Warrenton. As a result, NRCS has pledged some equipment.
