Upper Chattahoochee Soil and Water Conservation District
Annual Report FY 2013
The supervisors of the Upper Chattahoochee Soil and Water Conservation District met a total of 12 times in regular session during the fiscal year. Ridings served as Chairman, Beasley served as Vice-Chairman, Lyons served as Treasurer, and Rev. Joe Vernon served as Chaplin.
The District held their Annual Affiliate Member Meeting on November 8, 2012 at Lanier Tech Conference Center. A catered meal was served and approximately 200 were in attendance. The District honored Farm Families of the Year for each county. They also honored deceased supervisor Morris Frady. Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black gave the keynote address.
The District held their Annual Christmas Meeting on December 13, 2012 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Cleveland, Georgia. A catered meal was served and approximately 39 people were in attendance.
The District ratified 790 erosion sedimentation and pollution control plans.
The District ordered and distributed Soil Stewardship material to local schools.
The District supported various ChattahoocheeChestatee RC&D projects throughout the year.
The District held their Annual Supervisor/Ministers Meeting on March 14, 2013. Approximately 32 guests attended.
The District supported the Mudd Creek 319 Project.
The District sponsored students to attend the Natural Resource Conservation Workshop in Tifton.
The District voted to help sponsor the NACD Southeastern Meeting.
The District partnered with the Broad River Conservation District in hosting a Small Farm Conference June 20-21. 2013.
The District sponsored a Level II E&S class for City of Cumming employees.
Supervisor Edsel Nix received his 45 year service pin.
The District worked with the City of Cornelia in its plan to use watershed dam Hazel Creek #7 for water supply.
The District held its annual Family Night on 10/11/13 at the Cumming Country Fair.
