During the 1700., James Vann beoame a Cherol<se Indian leader and wealthy businessman. He established the la,gest and most prosperous plantatOn in the Cherol<se Nafon, covering 1,0CI) acoas of what is now Muriay County. In 1804 he completed constructbn of a beautiful tw1> and-a-haW story brick home that was the most elegant and expensive in the Cherolrae Nation. After Vann was mur-
dared in 1&Ii!, his son Joseph inherited the mansOn and plantation . ..bseph was also a Cherol<se leader and beoame even more wealthy than his father. In the 183:>s almost the entioa Cherol<se Nation was fo1Ced west by state and fedaial troops on the infamous Tia.ii of Tears. The Vann family bst their elegant home
and plantaton, rebuil:ling in the Cherol<se Territory in Oklahoma. Today the Vann
House survives as Ge:irgia's best-
