Several structures within the park, incl uding the stone swimming pool, were buil t by the Civilian Conservation Corps during th e Great Depression. Above Kings Gap is Dowdell 's Knob, Roosevelt's favori te picnic spot overlooking a magnificent view of th e va lley below. Hikers will enjoy the scenic trails in Georgia's largest state park, especially the 23-mil e Pine Mountain Tra il , which winds through a mi x of hardwoods and pines.
