this park is deeply rooted in the histor ical era of four- time President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Seeking a place for treatment a fter he was stricken with polio in 1921, Roosevelt traveled to nearby Warm S1>rings and built his Little White House. Several structures w ithin the park. including the mountain stone swimming pool, were built by Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression. Above Kings Gap, you'll find Dowdell's Knob, Roosevelt's favorite picnic spot overlooking a magnificent view of the valley be low. Hikers will especially e njoy the scenic trails in Georgia's la rgest state pa rk.
