Total employment in WIA Area #9 is expected to grow from more than 176,000 jobs in 2006 to more than 198,000 by the year 2016, which equates to 2,130 new jobs added each year. The area is home to the state's flagship university, the University of Georgia. The main industries are higher education, health services, agriculture, nonmetallic mineral product manufacturing, wood product manufacturing, and to a lesser degree, poultry processing.
