Two of three fastest growing occupations are associated with the healthcare industry and the other one is computer related.

Six occupations require no formal education beyond high school.

Three have earned the "HOT" label for this period on a statewide basis.

This area is made up of 10 counties in west central Georgia in and around the cities of Carrollton, LaGrange and Newnan. It includes the following counties: Butts, Carroll, Coweta, Heard, Lamar, Meriwether, Pike, Spalding, Troup and Upson.

Total Industry Growth

Total employment in WIA Area #8 is expected to grow from slightly more than 170,000 jobs in 2006 to almost 186,000 by the year 2016, which equates to more than 1,500 new jobs added each year. Key industries include textiles, apparel manufacturing, plastics and rubber products manufacturing, primary metal manufacturing, and transportation equipment manufacturing. The area also has substantial employment in health services and higher education.

Only Registered Nurses made the list of Georgia's "HOT" Careers to 2016 for its fast job growth, high wages, and plentiful job openings over the projections period.
