Academy of Kuchipudi Dance, Inc.
The art of Kuchipudi dance, a classical dance style of India, is both interpretive and lyrical, and also makes use of abstract dance sequences. It receives its name from the village of Kuchipudi in Andhra Pradesh, South India.
In recent times, the art form has captured the attention of the Indian community in America with an unparalleled intensity, based
in part on tours conducted throughout the U.S. by Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam. Sasikala Penumarthi, one of his students,
founded the Academy in 1997 as a non-profit entity to teach Kuchipudi dance, based on the guiding principles formulated by
Guru Vempati; produce dance-dramas; and promote the knowledge of this classical art of India in the American community
at large. The Academy works closely with VCS Kuchipudi Art Foundation in Chennai, India, and receives guidance from Guru
Vempati for all major productions.
Sasikala has toured all over India, the U.S. and Europe, and in March 1993, she performed at the prestigious Khajuraho dance

Ramatu Afegbua-Sabbatt
Ramatu Afegbua-Sabbatt, a Nigerian born artist from the Afegbua royal family, is the founder/director of Manga African Dance. Since 1988, she has influenced authenticity in African dance by performing with the leading cultural dance companies in metro Atlanta Extensions of Africa, African Dance Connection, Uhuru Dancers, Barefoot Ballet Manya, Giwayen Mata, and Ballethnic Dance Company's signature production, Leopard's Tale.
Afegbua-Sabbatt co-founded Barefoot Ballet Manya and was codirector of Barefoot Ballet Children's Dance Ensemble. As the founder of Giwayen Mata (translated from Hausa as "Elephant Leaders of the Women", an all-female percussion ensemble, she broadened artistic expression for female artists by challenging the traditional practice of exclusively restricting drumming to male musicians.
Upon moving to Georgia in 1988, Afegbua-Sabbatt realized there was little focus on preserving the Nigerian culture. Her studies and lessons focus on the indigenous African culture and its preservation. She has a great quest for teaching as well as studying with master teachers.
Afegbua-Sabbatt is in her tenth year as an instructor in Atlanta Ballet's Dance Education Program and has also taught young students at the Fox Theatre and Atlanta's Inn for Children as part of Fulton County's School Arts Program and Atlanta Ballet outreach. Ballethnic Dance Company
Ballethnic provides outreach and community programs as well as lecture demonstrations. School performances introduce young people to the basics of classical technique as well as Ballethnic's unique blend that combines classical ballet and West African Dance. School performances incorporate audience participation and give students the chance to take an in-depth look at the life of a professional artist, emphasizing how art/dance are essential to their academic endeavors.
The Urban Nutcracker is an ethnic version of the traditional ballet. From reggae rag dolls to Coca-Cola Pas de Six, the short dances represent original choreography and an upbeat adaptation. This vibrant full-length ballet is set on Atlanta's Auburn Avenue during the 1940s and is choreographed by Mr. Waverly T. Lucas II.
The Leopard's Tale is the company's signature ballet. The work is a dramatic portrayal of the leopard and his innate survival skills through several dance idioms (including ballet, West African and jazz). Choreographer Waverly T. Lucas II presents members of the animal kingdom from gazelles and lions to snakes and hyenas, all performed by professional dancers, local youths and artists. The audience will love the costumes, intricate make-up and original musical score. The second half of the show is an exciting culmination of singing and live drumming, as the Leopard and Man face their true inner conflicts.

Moving in the Spirit
Moving in the Spirit has been using the art and discipline of dance to brighten futures and change lives since 1986. Last year, the group was the recipient of the prestigious Coming Up Taller Award, presented by the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities. Moving in the Spirit presents workshops, residencies and performances that emphasize diversity, tolerance, and celebration of the human spirit. Programs include:
EMC2 Exceptional Movement Curriculum Based upon Einstein's philosophy that imagination is more important than knowledge, this program integrates the arts into school curriculum by bringing movement-enhanced lesson plans into the classroom.
Conflict Resolution In this workshop or residency, participants examine their personal patterns of conflict in a safe environment that encourages communication and collaboration. Participants learn movement tools to help assess potentially volatile situations and practical ways to reconcile arguments in a peaceful, respectful manner.
Celebrating the Beauty of Differences In this 45-minute interactive performance, audiences engage in discovering the beauty of differences across cultures. Performed pieces include Rhythm of Africa, based on Nigerian dance, and Freedom, promoting racial reconciliation. We encourage viewers to ask questions, discuss their responses, and consider the communicative power of movement.
Unlock Your Creativity During this 1.5 hour workshop, participants experience their creativity as an immense force that is inside every cell. We share stories, exchange ideas, and leave inspired by one another. Each session is tailored to meet the needs and interests of the presenter.

ARCO Chamber Orchestra
The ARCO Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1989 by Levon Ambartsumian at the world-renowned Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he served as professor of violin. Among its handpicked charter of members were a few instructors, some of his students, and several recent graduates from the Conservatory.
Almost immediately ARCO performances throughout Europe drew high critical praise and enthusiastic audience responses. The international acclaim grew in subsequent years following ARCO's concert tours in Italy, Spain, Germany, Romania, France, and Korea.
In 1995, Ambartsumian joined the University of Georgia's School of Music as the Franklin Professor of Violin, while remaining the artistic director and conductor of ARCO. Atlanta Baroque Orchestra
The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra performs music of the 17th and 18th centuries, from the Baroque and Classical periods,
using the instruments and interpretive techniques as they were during those times rather than their 20th- and 21stcentury equivalents. The period instruments produce sounds that are clearer, more distinct in their tonal-colors and more articulate, bringing the music to life in ways that are difficult on their modern counterparts. The small size of the orchestra (from 12 to 20 players, depending on the music being played) makes for a much more intimate listening experience for audiences, encouraging them to feel a part of the music-
making.

Believing that the heart of a musical style lies in its unique sound, the orchestra uses actual surviving instruments and reproductions of Baroque
period instruments. Members believe that the sounds of historical instruments Baroque violin, oboe, flute, harpsichord and cello are better suited than their modern counterparts to the expressive needs of the music
of the Baroque period. Musicians are all specialists in performing music of the Baroque on these instruments; however, all play modern instruments as
well.
Milestones for the group include two performances of J.S. Bach's Passion According to St. John, the first in Atlanta using period instruments; the first
Atlanta performance of Vivaldi's enduring Four Seasons using Baroque instruments; the first performance of Charpentier's Te Deum using a
completed orchestration by FSU Musicologist Charles Brewer; and the Atlanta period instrument premier of Handel's oratorio Messiah in 2002-03.
In addition to its own concert series, the orchestra has also performed a number of oratorios, operas and cantatas with choirs and other organizations
throughout the Southeast, including performances at the National Flute Convention, the American Musicological Society, Emory University,
Kennesaw State University, Peachtree United Methodist Church, and the Independent Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

Atlanta Pops Orchestra

In 1944, French immigrant Albert Coleman accepted the position of Musical Director for WSB Radio in Atlanta and set about forming an orchestra that would include Atlanta's best musicians and be available for radio dates, public concerts and free performances for the benefit of young people and aspiring musicians. Coleman established his first Atlanta Pops in 1945 and led that ensemble for 55 years until his retirement in 1998.
Former Atlanta Symphony Principal Trumpeter, John Head, is now the Music Director and Conductor of the Atlanta Pops Orchestra. The Orchestra plans to perform a wider variety of programs and will accompany guest artists while continuing to feature its own soloists, such as vocalists Ken White and Sherri Curtis-Seiden.
Concert material is prepared for several types of themed presentations (e.g. movies or Broadway shows). The primary program is developed each year for touring and can include additional, requested music for special occasions, holidays or town traditions that might require a particular piece of music. Two other programs are available for seasonal presentation during summer or fall and in December. All programs are rehearsed appropriately and can be given with or without soloists, who are usually vocalists or an instrumentalist within the group. Smaller groups can give clinics, master classes or short concerts in outreach presentations consisting of the standard literature for the specific group and some novelty pieces written specifically for the genre being presented.
Atlanta Pops Orchestra concerts last approximately two hours and typically include a fifteen-minute intermission. In the fifty-year history of the Atlanta Pops, it has been a tradition to use a Master of Ceremonies to introduce pieces and performers. This has been reworked so that the conductor makes short comments and speaks to the audience in a non-scripted manner, giving the event more intimacy and allowing for more music and less talking.

The Buddy O'Reilly Irish Music and Dance Band
The Buddy O'Reilly Irish Music and Dance Band consists of some of the Southeast's leading traditional Celtic musicians. For more than a decade the "Buddies", as they have become known to their fans, have been performing the beautiful songs and rollicking dance tunes of the Irish and Scottish countryside. During their sixteen years of extensive performances on concert and festival stages, at pubs, dances, festivals, and other locations, and in the traditional Ceilidh setting (dance party), audiences have been introduced to the live performance experience a rarity outside of the British Isle and Ireland. The group's performances also incorporate Southern influences. For instance, the band has been known to play an Irish reel on blues harp and bluegrass with bagpipes.
Over the course of its existence, the band has released several recordings, all available on CD, including Under the Table, `Round the House' (featuring champion step-dancer Brent Wood), and a Christmas album titled A Celtic Christmas. Selections range from traditional arrangements of popular jigs and reels, such as The Bank of Turf, Speed the Plough, The Earl's Chair, and The Foxhunter's Reel; haunting ballads, such as Bridgit O'Malley; and raucous pub songs, like The Town of Ballybay.
Instrumentation includes: vocals, fiddle, flute, mandolin, Irish uillean bagpipes, harmonica, banjo, tine whistle, guitar, bodhran, and hand-held drum.

Capitol City Opera
Opera, as an art form, contains the stigma of high society, foreign languages, and stuffy audiences.
Capitol City Opera has proven that the world of opera doesn't have to be a playground for the rich or
akin to a foreign film festival with accompanying subtitles. According to Pierre Ruhe, classical music
critic with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "For more than twenty years, with little more than a
passionate drive to produce opera, Capitol City has achieved the impossible: well-constructed operas with smart use of resources on a tiny budget."
Capitol City often takes a chance with bold new works and relies primarily on talents from metro Atlanta. The founding focus of the company in 1983 was to give local talent the opportunity to perform
professionally produced opera. Each year, the company produces more than 200 performances
and hires more than 60 singers. With a current national tour interspersed with almost daily
performances of operas for children, a monthly Dinner and a DivaTM restaurant series, two main stage shows, a summer pops show, opera galas, and special appearances, it is not uncommon for the
company to be performing three or more performances a day.

shared their music from the White House and communities throughout the U.S.A to audiences worldwide.
Performances are customized to the audience and are adaptable for all age groups and cultures. The group incorporates a cappella

Presentations for a college audience may include discussion on the music industry or may be tailored to meet the specific interests and concentrations

Adam Frey
Adam Frey and his euphonium create variety, diversity and interest. The euphonium, a tenor-voiced brass instrument, derives its name from the Greek word euphonion, meaning "beautiful-sounding" or "sweet-voiced", and remains one of the most versatile instruments.
Concerts can include live (i.e. piano) or recorded accompaniment (a play back system is required for recorded synthesizer, jazz and piano parts) and programmatic solo works. Frey provides an audiencefriendly atmosphere with an explanation of the euphonium, its history, and introductions of works. By providing composer insights and the stories of works, concert goers take part in a unique experience that proves both entertaining and educational.
Sample program themes include Brass Fireworks, with amazing showpieces and stellar melodies; Evening at the Opera, which includes the background of the operas with a performance of some of the most popular arias; and A Classical Night of Brass, a mix of master works with lyrical favorites. Frey may also feature his infamous solo encore, Flight of the Bumblebee, performed at a blinding pace with occasional comic interludes.
Additional pieces in the repertoire span from baroque to contemporary with numerous transcriptions from the standard repertoire of the violin, cello, flute, bassoon, and voice. Composers performed include Bach, Sarasate, Tchaikovsky, Ravel, Handel, Haydn and many others.

Piotr Folkert
Piotr Folkert can perform from a solo repertoire of over 300 works ranging from Baroque to 20th century pieces, as well as a fortypiece piano concerto with orchestra.
However, Folkert's most popular piano solo recitals are performances with narration. Three narrated programs are available: the music of Chopin, Bach or classical piano works
inspired by jazz.
The Chopin recital provides an in-depth knowledge of the composer's life in the form of his letters, writings of Chopin's contemporaries, anecdotes and historical facts. The recital also
presents rarely performed pieces.
The Bach recital introduces a mixture of the composer's unknown and most popular works. The narration shares not only the important facts from his life, but also shows Bach as a human
being, quite often in a humorous way.
The jazz recital is a tribute to American music. The audience will not only see and hear brilliant works, but also gain a more
meaningful understanding of classical music and the idiom of jazz. The performance includes works by Morton Gould, Debussy, Tansman, Kernis, Gershwin, Joplin, Oscar Peterson, and Art Tatum.
Programs with narration have a great educational value. It is a very unique opportunity for the audience, and specifically young generations, diverse and underserved populations, to learn more
about the composer and the pieces presented. The narrations were written by Dorota and Piotr Folkert.

According to family lore, Sheri Kling started whistling before she could talk. Singing followed closely behind. And from the moment she finished her first guitar lesson at age nine, she was hooked for
life. Today, Kling is an accomplished singer-songwriter, guitarist and storyteller who weaves together music built on rich vocals
and dynamic guitar and vivid stories to create captivating entertainment. Her songs resonate with Americana authenticity and each is another way of looking at what is real, what is true, and what invites us all into a more passionate and well-lived life.
Kling has released three CDs to critical praise. For instance, The Bradenton Herald (FL) called her "a natural Southern gal storyteller in the Lucinda Williams/Flannery O'Connor
vein... Kling's voice a clear, strong instrument of beauty brims with the kind of lived-in experience that immediately makes one lean forward and feel a connection."
In addition to concert performances, Kling offers programs ranging from keynote concerts to creative arts-in-education assemblies and school residencies. Women are responding

Eric Larkins
Eric Larkins is not only a performer, he is a huge fan of the music. Larkins started his music training at the age of nine. His creative discipline includes the usual routine of hours of daily practice alongside performing and teaching.
In his program, he makes selections he feels the audience wants to hear familiar favorites by the great composers that have a lot of melody. He also incorporates a lot of heavyweight pieces challenging arrangements that audiences don't get to hear or see played everyday. To him, the magic of classic guitar is not in the performer but in the music. His job is to deliver that magic to the audience, even when playing two or three parts at once.
The Passionate Strings Project marks the completion of his second full-length album. He enjoys playing audience favorites and has worked hard to develop a rich repertoire full of melodic works by the great composers.

Encouraged by the folk music revival of the 1960s, John McCutcheon started his musical career with a mail order guitar. He left his native Wisconsin for Appalachia and learned from some of the legends of traditional American music, mastering fiddle, banjo, guitar, auto-harp, dulcimer, jaw harp and other instruments of southern Appalachia. His performing, songwriting, and storytelling skills blend traditional instruments and sounds with contemporary themes.

His masterful command of the hammer dulcimer has received critical acclaim. He has expanded the audienceprimarily folk music enthusiasts for this nearly extinct instrument to include classical, jazz, and rock-and-roll crowds. Johnny Cash called him " . . . the most impressive instrumentalist I've ever heard."

He has also appeared as a soloist with symphony orchestras and choral societies throughout North America, and has earned a reputation as a consummate artist for his extraordinary work with hearing-impaired audiences of all ages, as well as for his work with sign-language interpreters. After 35 albums, six Grammy nominations and six "Children's Album of the Year" awards, John McCutcheon is one of America's most beloved and respected folk music performers.

Montana Skies
Montana Skies creates a unique new sound, from finger-picking to flamenco, with the unusual pairing of
cello and guitar. The core of the group is husbandand-wife team Jonathan Adams on guitars (steel
string and Spanish/nylon) and Jennifer Adams on cellos (acoustic cello and her custom 6-String Electric cello). Montana Skies has an extensive tour schedule which has taken them all across the U.S., Canada and to Asia. They made their international debut last summer in Seoul, Korea.
The group's debut recording Montana Skies reached #1 on world and instrumental music radio charts in April
and May of 2004 and helped them win the title of Best New Artist in the 2004 Lifestyle Radio Awards. Highlights from the album's airplay include broadcasts nationally on the NPR program Echoes and the TV program Soundcapes. They have enjoyed performing live on radio and TV programs throughout the
country and internationally.
Montana Skies' name is taken from one of the first songs Jonathan composed for the group entitled Montana Skies. Jonathan studied music
at Montana State University in Bozeman and this song was written specifically about those times. Jonathan and Jennifer named themselves
after this first song because it captures the essence of the duo's music, and marked the beginning of their newly formed sound.
The group is releasing their newest album, Chasing the Sun, which was inspired by their most recent cross-country tour.
Montana Skies performs in a variety of settings, including outdoor music festivals, indoor concert halls, on the campuses of college and universities, and at community concerts. Jonathan's full length
instructional book and CD, Getting Into Fingerstyle Guitar was published in 2002 by Mel-Bay Publications.

Georgia Shakespeare
Georgia Shakespeare is a vibrant and dynamic theater company using Atlanta's finest ensemble of professional artists to produce bold interpretations of the world's most compelling stories. The works of William Shakespeare serve as the core inspiration for both production and educational programming, in addition to works by such classic playwrights as Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, Anton Chekhov, Miguel Cervantes, Molire and others.
Bring Shakespeare to your school with the following programs:
Julius Caesar School Tour (recommended for grades 6-12): The school provides the space, Georgia Shakespeare does the rest. Sets, costumes, and an in-depth study guide for teachers come along with our troupe of professional actors. All touring plays are 50 minutes long, perfect for one class period. Although abbreviated, the show remains faithful to Shakespeare's text so that students can experience the Bard's own words. Six actors play up to twelve roles, giving students an appreciation of the art of acting.
A Visit with the Queen (recommended for grades 3-6): This versatile, two-person production brings history to life. Queen Elizabeth I comes to your classroom, media center or auditorium with her poems and letters to illuminate the culture of Shakespeare's world. Students become part of the action as they participate as ladies-in-waiting, members of the Privy Council and the Ambassadors.
Acting Shakespeare Workshops (recommended for grades 4-12): Help students understand language arts by giving them a foundation in Shakespeare. This workshop series offers a fun, interactive way for students to explore the world of writing and the spoken word. They play games and use scenes and monologues as a springboard for learning. Professional Georgia Shakespeare artists teach all workshops. Call for a list of titles.

Andy Offutt Irwin
With a manic Silly Putty voice, astonishing mouth noises, and hilarious stories, he is equal parts mischievous schoolboy and the
Marx Brothers, peppered with a touch of the Southern balladeer. Andy is one vibrantly odd bird, with feathers that tease, tickle and tug at the heart - and a whopper of a personality, which barely fits in most rooms. People are drawn to him like magnets to a
refrigerator. And inside, it's all Mountain Dew and Jolt Cola.
A native of Covington, Georgia, Andy performs in theatres, schools and storytelling festivals all over the country. He was a Featured
Teller in 2005 at the prestigious National Storytelling Festival and will be returning in 2007. His live performance CD, Christmas at
Southern White Old Lady Hospital was awarded Best Storytelling Album at the Just Plain Folk Music Awards.
Some of the programs Andy offers include... "Book Every Saturday For A Funeral" General Audience. Marguerite, an 80-something-year-old widow, is tired of the bridgeclub-garden-club scene, so she and her friends go to medical school
and open a hospital in rural Georgia..
"Cards in the Spokes" Family Concerts, Middle and High School Students. Andy was one of the boys on bikes, free-wheeling
through the hot Southern summers. Johnny and Kenny, black brothers, are Andy's friends. Together, they all grow strong and
learn how to get around 1960's Georgia.
"The Kandinsky Trio with Andy Offutt Irwin" Andy whistles (no kidding) with this noted chamber ensemble.
Additional performances for families and children... "Offutt's Environmental Epic Show"
"Nouns, Verbs and Other Important Stuff" "Letters, Numbers and Other Important Stuff"

Atlanta Radio Theater Company
Since 1984, the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company has been performing, recording, and broadcasting dramatic audio -- fully dramatized, fully sound-scaped audio drama, far beyond the readings and "audio books" you can find in a bookstore. We like to think that what we do is classic "old-time radio", as it would sound with today's technology and dramatic techniques.
We are a group of writers, producers, actors, Foley artists, musicians and audio technicians dedicated to keeping alive this art of the well-crafted audio drama, the art of painting pictures with sound. ARTC requires just two things from you, the presenter: space and electricity. We provide everything else: the actors, the audio equipment, the expertise. Touring isn't just something we do, it's who we are: a moveable audio feast for audiences of all ages.
