Amount necessary to meet pay ro lls, 1914 1,000.00
$ 7,863.84
In explanation.of th e la st two items' enumera ted,
the appropriation to this department provides for
th e payment of $1,500.00 to the Secretary of State.
Col. Cook, knowing my emba rras sed ,condition, ha s
calle d on me for a very small amount of this appro-
priation . I am in r eceipt of a letter from him asking
what he may exp ect from me, as he is very mu ch in
need of additional furnitur e. The la st item of $1,-
000.00 is what will be actually necessary to meet my
monthly pay roll s to .I anuary 1st, 1915.
I would call attention to a fa ct not generally known
th at since my appointment the cr eation of new departments, and th e neces sa~'Y enlargement of depart-
ments alread y created, ha s made it n ecessary to
equip sixteen new offices or rooms and most in-
stances,with complete furni shings.
.
Th e expenditure necessary for this wa s of course
never conte mpla ted when th e appropriation was
made to my department.
5
If my administ ra tion ha s been a success it is largely du e to th e faithfu lness of th e men who have . been associ ated with me.
I f eel espe cially gr a teful to ever y man connecte d with the State D epartment for th eir kindness, cour tesy and helpfulness, a nd to th e memb ers of th e L egi slature who hav e so nobly stood by me.
R espect full y submitted, P. B. LAT I M El~ ,
K eep er of Publi c Building's.
