EXECUTIVE ORDER

BY THE GOVERNOR:

WHEREAS:

The growth and development of the State of Georgia and the economic prosperity of its people are dependent upon an adequate and competent workforce; and

WHEREAS:

The State of Georgia has an opportunity to enhance the skills of all the citizens to ensure that they will be able to successfully meet the challenges of the twenty-first century workforce; and



WHEREAS: WHEREAS:

The Governor's Growth Strategies Commission has included education and human resource development as key elements in its proposed strategy for Georgia's future and has urged a coordinated approach to development of a quality workforce; and
The Georgia Department of Labor has established a formal process to plan for and deliver the comprehensive services necessary to meet these goals; and

WHEREAS:

It is necessary to involve both private and public sector leaders as active participants in the development and implementation of strategies to enhance the State's present and future workforce.

NOW THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVENOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED:

That there is established the Georgia 21 Commission on Building a Quality Workforce, hereinafter referred to as the Commission.

ORDERED:

That the Commission shall review major state policies and procedures affecting Georgia's workforce; identify duplications of effort, gaps in services, and opportunities for future development; review and approve staff reports and studies; and recommend to the Governor strategies to ensure a comprehensive approach to planning, developing, and implementing programs which will enhance Georgia's present and future workforce. The Commission shall coordinate with state agencies and other appropriate boards and commissions. Each member shall have an equal vote on matters before the Commission.

That each member of the Commission shall be paid his necessary traveling expenses while engaged in the business of the Commission.
IT IS FURTHER
That the Georgia Department of Labor shall provide necessary staff and administrative support to the Commission, and shall establish and maintain a centralized employment data base for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and disseminating Georgia workforce data to private and public sector users statewide.
