Office of Women's Health
Overview
The Office of Women's Health (OWH) promotes and leads efforts to improve the health status and quality of life of women through education, research, policy development and coordination of women's health programming. The OWH serves as a voice and focal point for addressing the health issues of all women in Georgia.
Goals
The OWH has five goals: 1. Raise awareness of women's non-reproductive health issues 2. Inform and engage in prevention and education activities relating to women's non-reproductive health issues 3. Serve as a clearinghouse for women's health information for purposes of planning and coordination 4. Issue reports of the OWH activities and findings 5. Develop and distribute a state comprehensive plan to address women's health issues
Functions
The OWH has six functional areas: 1. Leadership 2. Public and professional education with emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention 3. Partnership building with public and private sectors 4. Policy development 5. Internal coordination and research related to women's health issues
Key Strategies
n Public education to reduce health risk behaviors in women n Wellness and prevention activities related to non-reproductive
health issues n Knowledge and enhancement of key health conditions,
diseases and causes of death and disabilities in women n Policy development to ensure access to care for all women,
including the uninsured/underinsured
