SELF-EMPLOYMENT FACT SHEET
Considering Self-Employment? If you are eligible for services from the Vocational Rehabilitation Program, you may be considered for self-employment services. Self-employment is a viable business venture initiated and operated by the client where the individual performs, supervises or sub-contracts the major part of the product or service to be produced. While the VR Program can assist with the start of a self-employment endeavor, it cannot provide full start-up costs or long term support for the business. Clients are expected to invest either financially or in-kind.
Services Assessment of individual's self-employment potential and feasibility of business Technical assistance and other consultation services to develop business plans Limited funding for start-up costs Business-related adaptive technology/equipment Counseling and guidance Business-related training
VR can only support a business which: Complies with all relevant state, federal and local laws and regulations Individual is the sole proprietor Is organized "for profit"
VR cannot support a business that is: Speculative in nature Organized as non-profit Organized as a hobby For refinancing of existing debt Of possible violation to community morality
