ICAPP Georgia's Intellectual
Capital Partnership Program
ICAPP connects the intellectual resources of Georgia's 35 public colleges and universities to the state's business community in innovative ways. ICAPP staff and a team of economic development leaders from each campus help Georgia businesses tap into the University System of Georgia for:
College-educated employees Access to the latest research Access to business and operations advice
ICAPP projects support Georgia's strategic industries
Energy/Environment Valdosta State University is creating one new course and revising two existing courses to incorporate new technology in the paper industry (particularly as it relates to energy consumption and quality control). Courses are aimed at Valdosta State students and current employees of the pulp and paper industry. The courses include a project-based directed study course (experiential learning).
Life Sciences In response to bioscience industry requests, the University of Georgia's College of Pharmacy created three graduate programs in regulatory science and clinical trials. Since January 2006, 74 students from more than 25 Georgia companies and biomedical institutions have enrolled in one of the programs, and 23 new graduate students have been accepted beginning Fall 2008.
Agriculture Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) is helping develop the bioenergy workforce in southern Georgia through a variety of community, K-12 school and on-campus efforts --so far reaching more than 300 teachers, 230 students and 200 local residents. ABAC developed three new courses, and established a new bachelor's business degree program with a concentration in biomass and renewable resources in partnership with Georgia Southwestern State University.
Logistics
DSC Logistics helped Clayton State University revise one course in its Logistics/Supply Chain Management program to cover topics of concern to DSC's segment of the industry. Clayton State University also added 20 students per year to the program. DSC selects Clayton State University students for part-time, paid internships and commits to hire at least 10 of these students as Logistics Managers when they graduate. The program has expanded to other companies with logistics operations.
